Gareth Barry's Mark Delaney Delight

Gareth Barry is delighted that Mark Delaney has been given a two month extension to his contact and that the Wales international right back will be with the claret and blues on their tour or America/Canada.

Barry told the official site:

'It is amazing what Mark has managed to do, to give himself a great chance of being fit again after a long absence. No-one likes seeing a fellow professional out, and it was especially depressing to see someone like Mark struggle last season. But it says everything about him, both as a professional and a person, that he can work throughout the winter months and then alone for much of the summer to put himself in this great position. To have him in America will be a big boost to the rest of the dressing room.'

He also says Delaney is good for the squad because he is one of the more vocal amongst them adding:

'He is Villa through and through and it is good that he will be around for some of the younger players to turn to. In may ways, having missed last season, it will be like having a new player at the club.'

Must admit, if not for his injuries, Delaney would have made a great captain for Villa, certainly one of our most full bloodied players, hence he picked up so many knocks. If we could get him back and fit, there aren't many better right-backs in the country, are there?

a two month extension? that's hardly a statement of confidence in the player from oneill.

Is it a bit boring over on the Chelsea site?
Hoss The Villain
I'd say the fact that he's got any contract at all is a pretty fair statement. Not doubting his quality when fit, but that's the massive question, IF fit.

Long way still to go for Mark, but he's hopefully getting there. Still a lot of ponderables and question marks, but you never know.

Even if Delaney is only a shadow of his former self he's still better than Hughes or Bardsley. We need cover in case he gets another injury (kicked to **** by the opposition),Luke Young seems the ideal candidate.
Willa
Perfecty put Willa, Delaney is not injurey prone, as many believe, he has been kicked to ***** by the opposition and this has only happened because he is a totally commited player. When he goes in he gives his all, unfortunately this puts him at the mercey of clumsy/bad tackles.
Villain Of The North
Always liked him as a player, but you need you right back to be quick and be able to dribble, cross the ball and tackle. Most of his injuries are inflicted due to being fouled so he's not that injury prone......we still need cover badly.
son_of_cher
VOTN so did McCann go in commited for every tackle and gave it his all but he was never injury prone like Delaney at the Villa. some players are just injury prone and im afraid Delaney is one of them...!

what the ***** are we doing! We have no RIGHT BACK!

Admire his heart and battle but to be honest i don`t rate him too highly as a player overall, thought Bardsley would have been a better option.
ASPINALL
A fully fit Mark Delaney would be a tremendous boost, but I'd still like to see us swoop for Luke Young. Young is very under-estimated in my opinion, very sound defensively, and by all accounts is up for grabs. We shouldn't rule out MD making a serious challenge for inclusion in the line up though as the season develops.

Delaney was one of the best right backs in the Premiership. He might be again. Let's hope so. Gordon cowans came back from a series of injuries and hopefullly Laussson will too. If fit he can still be the man.

I hope he gets back to full fitness and earns another long term contract. Delaney is a top player and I would love to see him back in the side.
