Would You Re-Sign Vassell For 1.5m?

Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by notthedougellistand:

Leighton Baines, future England left-back ? Should Villa try and sign him ?

Yes, at the right price (48%)
No, Freddie Bouma is better (31%)
Yes, definitely (16%)
No, we don't need to strengthen in that area (3%)
Not sure (2%)

Got nothing else to add to that really!

Our latest poll asks, if reports are true and Manchester City striker Darius Vassell is available for 1.5million, would you re-sign him. Not sure I would but had to ask something!

vassell is consigned to the history books, lets keep him there.
Stig
He would be a squad player, but I think he could play off Carew,he must have a point to prove,he's got Villa in his blood.Under the right management he could still turn things around,he would have to improve his finishing vastly however. He could be a real bargain.
Pking
i suppose if we signed him it would stop him scoring against us!
The Usual Suspect
No, keep him at City !! tribal football are saying O'Niell is upping his offer for Defoe ? wasn't aware he had made an official offer ! when will all this end !!!!!!
astonmilan
Under O Dreary there were never many chances created for the front men,at Citeh it was the same. His self asteem wasn't exactly helped by O Dreary either.
Pking
No way, he was useless for us and useless for Citeh so why the hell buy him back plus Gabby and Luke are better.
nottinghamvillain
Ill shut up after this, what if he was played in a different position instead of a striker? He still has pace to burn I think he'd play in goal if it meant he could come back to Villa.
Pking
haha good one!!!! wait are you serious???!!??!
VillaMalta
Am I ever serious!??!! Never return is the mantra players should use I reckon.
The Fear
What about Ian Rush?
Pking
for that much yep! think he would be a good squad player as long as he knew he was one.
spit-fire
Would not want him back, but think the fan's booing him was out of order. What did he do to deserve it ?
chris the villan
No chance he is simply not good enough.....!!!
deemz
I never realised I was such a fan of Darius, perhaps Im colourblind?
Pking
Bring back de hammer.
chris the villan
hes no where near good enough for us, he only scores against us so if he plays for us thats 0 goals a season
shortshadyuk
He's better than Harebrain
tarzan
Absolutely not!! Then again I wouldn't have made a move for Marlon Harewood either, so nothing about this game should ever surprise us anymore.
glensider
At least it would stop him scoring against us........ But no he was never the same player since he played for England..
col8
Harewood of Vassell then?!??!?!
The Fear
Only if you give me the 1.5m up front.........id choose harewood over vasell anyday. Darius lacked confidence, pace and general qualities needed to be a football. Didnt he once drill his toe off too?
son_of_cher
SWP was massively over -hyped and Darius massively under-hyped, such that the difference between the 2 fees was absolutely barmy (2m versus 20+m). The concensus as to whether Darius should have been got rid of when he went was split - but I think I am right in recalling whether fans wanted him to go or stay the 2.2m we received at that time was generally thought to be a rip-off giveaway for an England International who had axcually never let his country down - with a number of good performances and other performances that at least injected pace and energy into the game and counted as 'fair'. Instinctive goalscorer he is not and never will be, but there are players around him who will score more goals alongside him than they would with less hardworking frontmen. JPA's best season was helped considerably by DV. My end point in all this is just that I fail to understand that a player who was thought to have gone for buttons at 2.2m is now not thought a decent squad buy at 1.5m, when prices have generally gone through the roof? At that price you can hardly lose, and DV could come good or at least be a good sub or squad player. Hardly a gamble for a born and raised Villa player and fan. Don't come back is a saying not a rule, and examples can be quoted both ways (eg the return of Sid). More often than not things might not work out, but at 1.5m as I said you cannot really lose - there are a lot bigger and more expensive risks that could be taken.
stennyvilla
I agree stenny.
Pking
my favorite player back in the day, id sentimally take him back but if i had to choose between him and harewood, id have to take marlon aka franklin the turtle
AussieVilla
Vass has never realised the early potential that was evident way back when. A Championship player at best right now.
