More Villa Transfer Speculation

Ok, not so much in the press today and what is mostly suggests links aren't coming rather than they are!

The Express and Star today say that Spurs would want in the region of £18million for England striker Jermain Defoe, mostly because they are being forced to sell and the player has two years left on his contract. Villa and Portsmouth were both linked at around £8million. I believe Pompey actually put a bid in and were rejected, although there is the slight (90%?!!) possibility that I'm wrong. (Never I hear you cry).

This could well be paper talk, Darren Bent only cost £16.5million (ONLY!!!) so why would their now 4th choice striker be worth more?

Another link that isn't coming, and I think you will all share me in being totally 'gutted' is Marlon Harewood from West Ham. Apparently Wigan Athletic are buying him. Ok, 1, 2, 3 collective sigh of relief NOW.

According to the Sun Villa are 'weighing up' a £3million bid for Norweigan international defender Brede Hangeland. If I was Villa I'd stop weighing and start wading in, pre-season has started, the tour isn't far off and the season will soon be upon us!

Hangeland, who has 30 caps (and if he is going to boast about that, then I've got 10 pairs of trainers) is a central defender currently at FC Copenhagen. He has also been linked to Manchester City, another sleeping giant with a new big money owner, seems to be a lot of us about!

Some sites are saying that Villa have signed 15-year-old Watford midfielder Harry Forrester on a three-year deal. I can't see confirmation on the official site as yet though. However academy director Bryan Jones has said: 'We heard last week he had turned Watford down, were given permission to speak to him and he has agreed a deal with Villa. As always at this age, there is a long way to go with a player, but we believe he has a great talent.'

-----Oh, and the Birmingham Mail say that Villa have offered Mark Delaney a two month contract extension as he fights to regain his fitness following knee surgery.

Hangle and Laursen as back two would be formidable. Mellberg could then play right back and Boume Left!

I'm usually very patient but now I'm getting bored of the talk. Role on the new season!
11/07/2007 14:24:00
Not at all enthusiastic at the thought/prospect of Olof Mellberg filling in at right back for us leelindsay. We need a quality right full back brought in, a specialist. In my humble opinion Luke Young fits the bill admirably. I know he's not everyone's choice, but he's a very good defender, and would fill nicely a position that has been a weak point for us in recent campaigns. Agree that we now need to see some serious action on the incoming transfer front. I applaud the signing of NRC, but now we need to get busy and start wrapping up some of the deals we have no doubt been working on. Like many supporters, I had hoped, expected, and believed that most of our dealings would have been concluded by the time the lads reported back to Bodymoor Heath, so yes, I am somewhat disappointed at our lack of activity.

Need a right back and cover for Freddy at left, even though the great GB might slot in if required as central midfield will be well catered for. NRC a far better option than Gav who gave away too much possession. No need to panic yet. Afonso Alves up front to replace JPA? Luke Young? SWP? Sjneider? Plenty of good ones out there, MON right, Defoe not worth £18m.
11/07/2007 18:43:00
oh, i nearly forgot Jussi the man mountain keeper!
11/07/2007 18:45:00
nothing happening tho.
11/07/2007 20:59:00
I can see MON`s excuses already,we should have sorted players out long time ago and if not DON`T SELL ??????
11/07/2007 22:22:00
i really don't see barry playing at left back next season, barring injuries to bouma and an anticipated new LB. he will be part of what i think will be an excellent midfield next season. i still wish davis was a part of it but one more attacking midfielder of genuine class is just what we need - goddamn i hope there is something in the sneijder rumours!
12/07/2007 00:03:00
Harewood is going to Small Heath according to the Daily Express. £3.5m - a double bonus for us then !
12/07/2007 08:40:00
ASPINALL, please don't take this as a personal attack. I've read a fair few of your comments lately, and I must say, I can't remember too many positive statements from your post's. What I would say is, we need to be patient as we don't know what is going on behind the scene. I know it may appear that MON is lagging behind, but we must not judge him until he has failed because that would be our failure as supporters! Let's give him until the deadline before we say he has failed. What we do need do is stay positive. Whilst I do understand your frustration at the lack of activity (and your not on your own there,) I don't want us Villa fans to be known as fickle, hence justify O'leary's previous comments. We are in this together, along with MON and the board!
