So Who Will Villa Sign? Part 6

The sixth instalment of our summer long gossip column!

We've already had nearly 3 million (ahem) rumours, arguments and links!

So Who Will Villa Sign Pt 5 - Click Here

I must admit I'd hoped we'd have been talking about the great signings we've made by now, instead we are still getting the manager saying they are working hard to bring in new players. Oh well, there is always tomorrow, or the day after I guess! At least we know there is money there to spend once players can be attracted, just got to hope that the fact we aren't in Europe this coming season isn't proving to be a major block on big name arrivals. We need at least one big name to put down a marker for the season surely?

Anyway, here continues the rumours thread on the front page. See a story linking us with a player? Share it with us all. Heard a tenuous link, or seen a player around Villa Park? Let us know! Oh, and although I'll do my best to announce incoming players as soon as possible, if you hear of a signing before I do, wang it on this thread as well.

The January thread ended up with nearly 2000 article comments, spaced over several articles (the limit per article is now 400 after I got it raised, anymore than that and it slows things down too much so I'll change the threads over each time we hit the limit!)

So Far.

Out:

Jlloyd Samuel
Gavin McCann
Lee Hendrie
Robert Olejnik
Stephen Henderson
Aaron Hughes

In:

Nigel Reo-Coker from West Ham £8.5m.
Marlon Harewood, from West Ham

SWP, Luke Young, Sneijder, Norjewin defender, Defoe, Jussi. Then ild be a very happy chappy
Newman
Disappointing summer so far. I believe we all felt we would have signed at least three players of note. However, still 5 weeks before start of season so hopefully things will begin to move
notthedougellisstand
When do they leave for America? Surely he will want most of his signings on board by then? I still reckon the following will arrive before the window closes....Craig Gordon, Luke Young, Curtis Davis (Ridge going in the opposite direction + money) Phillip Lahm, Sneijder, and Alan Smith! That will then cover every position with great competition. Starting 11. Gordon, Young, Mellberg, Laursen, Lahm, Young, Reo-Coker, Sneijder, Barry, Smith, Gabby!
DixonTheVillain
The Avfc blog site has delusions of grandeur and are saying they are the biggest Villa site around town. I think fear should settle it with an arm wrestle.....
Villan444
Interesting interview with Mark Hughes on North West TV. He was saying that the big boys sort themselves out first, then the rest can sort themselves out after that. Guess we are still part of 'the rest' until we can offer European football.
Gordonsleftboot
The quotes not long back did say he wanted them in before pre-season training started (start of July) so that is one deadline missed. As The General said in his thread in the forum, the window doesn't close until Aug, so no panic but it would be nice to see faces arriving early!
The Fear
lol villan444. I'll leave them to it, never been one to worry about who is the biggest, I always find the alexa stats to vary wildly depending on whether you have a few people who use your site who have an alexa toolbar downlooaded. It is difficult to compare us with any others as we are lumped into the network anyway. I'm happy at the size of this one, million page impressions (the hits stat is a useless stat but would be 10-15 times that), 65 000 odd unique users, seems pretty good to me!
The Fear
I'd be bitterly disappointed if we had to wait until 31 Aug b4 completing our transfers. We're were promised exciting signings. For me this hasn't happened as yet. Still time, I know. Maybe we were waiting for Malouda to sign for Chelsea b4 going in for SWP. The trouble is, there is no information available from the the club (denials are required on potential targets). The longer it takes to sign players the trickier it gets to settle the players into a system b4 the season starts. It's very frustrating
myleftfoot
lol to be fair i'd never have heard of avfcblog if it wasnt for newsnow. Anyways, myleftfoot, totally agree with you, the excitement has certainly died down, i'm sure MON would've preferred more signings by now, just the way it's going at the moment with a few clubs. However, if he could pull off a flurry of signings in quick succession i think everyone would be full of enthusiasm again.
Its All Over FC
It'll be a good week if we can wrap up the signing of Luke Young from Charlton. I like the guy, and rate him as a very good right full back, something we haven't enjoyed at Villa Park in a long, long while. Hope that MON does have a few quality players focused in his radar, because right now, I still believe we are way short of where we really need to be. Not trying to be negative, just realistic.
glensider
Distin,Bellamy,Koumas all have gone elsewhere instead of us? Totally confused as to what we are playing at,still looks like we are behind 75% of rest of Prem when it comes to signing players.
ASPINALL
Add Nugent to the list.
ASPINALL
2 of the above came to Pompey, we are on the rise!!
paultsmouth
You are mate,2 great players and wish we had em.
ASPINALL
Aspinall, of those only Distin would have been a worthwhile addition immediately. Nugent may be worth a punt but £6 million is a very large punt for a player who is yet to play in the Premiership. Bellamy is a good player but has been trouble wherever he has been in the last 4 years. The same goes for Koumas, who I really do not think will succed. I believe that is why he has gine to Wigan because no-one was willing to take the risk at £5.3 million.
notthedougellisstand
Well do you go for 2nd choices then ? MON wanted Distin,Bellamy and Koumas - when Bellamy`s wages went ridiculous ( and Bellamy resorted to type i.e followed the wedge ) Nugent came into the radar,we either want to compete or we don`t.
ASPINALL
Who told you that MON wanted these players. The only player he referred to as wanting was Bellamy who he said he enjoyed working with at Celtic. He actually denied wanting Koumas and Distin and Nugent were never mentioned by the club.
notthedougellisstand
goddamn be patient will ya!? thats what MON has asked for, for gods sake
ric112
Trust me mate,he thought they were gettable and wanted them,we`ll see then as i`m under impression we`ve ran out of ideas but guess we can all celebrate Luke Young for 4.5m!!! WHAT!!!!
ASPINALL
One thing is for certain Villa still need to bring more players in. Quality is really thin on the groung, Niall Quinn has stated this season it has been a nightmare trying to attract players to Sunderland. The have tried hard to attract quality with no success so maybe Villa can get their targets.
col8
The early bird catches the worm,if it`s and ands were pots and pans there would be no need for tinkers !! Yep,let`s all be patient as it will all work out great in the end......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
ASPINALL
Aspinall I know that it is frustrating. I feel the same but I still think we must trust in MON. £4.5 million is more than we should be paying for Young but everyone knows that we need a right back and he is a good player who is proven in the Premiership.
notthedougellisstand
Fear....need to add Ste Davies to the list of the 'outs' on the article. 7 out and 1 in might sound like what the dwarfs got upto with snow white but it doesnt sound good for the revolution. If defoe and SWP are signed by other clubs I will be at a loss as to who we could sign.
bigdiondubs
Plus Bardsley.
ASPINALL
Plus Angel and Sutton should also be listed as exits - we've actually had more leave than I had realised.....
YatesyVillain
Lads there's still the need for calm. I remember the celtic fans warning us that MON likes to leave it late in the Transfer window and so far they've be proven right. So as much as it is frustating, we can't moan untill 1st Sep when the window closes. Who know he may have something lined up, I never saw Carew deal coming and thats proven to be a success. I could be wrong but keep the faith UTV
godworeno5
Stop worrying about the club not putting out denials of links. Think about it, if we are linked to 5 strikers and MON REALLY wants 1 and its all over the papers. He then denies he wants four of them. What do you think the club of the player he REALLY wants will do to the price. This silence may mean that for example he can say to Charlton, forget it we have other options - £3m take it or leave it or we will look elsewhere!! By the way £4.5m for a proven RB (which is priority #1 for us) is not bad at all. Penny-pinch on players who may add to the squad, but Young would be a vital player for us from the day he signs. He will be very important and we should be willing to meet at least the 4.5m valuation. Arsenal are spending £7.5m on that guy Sagna.
deano.avfc
I dont understand why Koumas went to Wigan instead of us
Christo
Christo don't believe the papers. The club said they were not interested in Koumas and on this one I firmly believe them. Benayoun looks set to go to Liverpool for £4 million and Koumas has gone for £5.3 million. I know which one I would rather have. Wigan were willing to meet the asking price for Koumas because they know if they had not he would have gone elsewhere as the price would have fallen. Koumas is unproven at this level and I don't think he would have made a massive difference to our squad other than to have been a squad player.
notthedougellisstand
Deano.avfc, I agree on Luke Young I think he would be a good addition to the team due to our lack of depth at right-back and him being a proven player. Not a spectacular signing but solid and in an area taht we need someone, thats good enough for me.
notthedougellisstand
Wesley Sneijder is still an Ajax player. I think he would be a fantastic player. He has said that he would like to move. RL and MON should be in Amsterdam today trying to get a deal done for this player. Whilst thery're there they could also try and get John Heitinga and sample some of the local delights.
notthedougellisstand
Brede Hangeland could be a decent signing at 6ft 5in he would really give us more of a physical presence and be a major threat from set plays which we have lacked for a few seasons. he would not cost much and would be a great replacement for Ridgwell if and when he is sold. Him and Carew at 6ft 4in would be a real handfull.
deemz
I keep hearing about trust on this site, trust MON, well trust is something built up over time, all we can do is hope, when he's been here 10 years like fergie at Man U, then trust is the word to use, untill then lets hold back on the TRUST untill we get to know him.
eltoro
If we'd signed Sneijder it would be a massive stride for the club(optimistic). like you say he's still an ajax player despite all the speculation. I know its not much of a comparisson but i always used to sign him on FM manager and he was phenominal. real life is slightly different matter but the reseachers for the game put in a lot of hours scouting players and they could see his potential. always surprised no has tried to sign him up until now
godworeno5
Davis and Bardsley should be on the outs! The most significant posting so far has mentioned Mark Hughes saying "that the big boys sort themselves out first" and we follow. The top 4 get the choice - end of. I am so glad we didn't pick up Koumas or Bellamy, we have better players at the club now. A goalkeeper and RB are priorities for me.
tarzan
MO'N did NOT want Koumas. Did NOT want Distin. Did NOT want Bellamy. Did NOT want Nugent. Did NOT want Jagielka. Just because the tabloids say we do, doesn't mean we do. So, once and for all, let's stop criticising the club for 'missing out' on targets we show no signs of going after. It's not about blind faith - if when the season starts they've come up short, I'll be the first one to ask questions. Until then, just stop - it's pointless. And in the meantime, look at that list of players. Is there anyone there you would really want at the Villa? I was personally relieved to see Koumas and Bellamy go elsewhere. They would not have improved us and would've been reminiscent of the O'Leary/Ellis signings (we were originally linked with Bellamy back then remember). But I really do believe that had MO'N truly wanted any of those players, odds are he would've got them. I mean do you seriously think Koumas would've CHOSEN Wigan over Villa? MO'N has his targets - it remains to be seen who they ultimately are but I'm betting we will end up with a list of signings far superior to those discussed above. MO'N would not be the manager he is if he blew our warchest on players just because they were available, and it's those players who are largely the ones that have moved so far this summer (excluding the big 4's signings). It's a far more delicate matter trying to get clubs to part with players they don't want to lose, and it's these players that are going to improve us. Let's just chill out and evaluate in a month's time.
Alec
As for players who have left the club only McCann played a majority of the games last season and he has been replaced by the signing of Reo, a better player IMHO. As for Jlloyd, Hughes, Angel, Sutton and Davis they were all bit part players last season and MON obviously doesnít rate them after seeing them. Hendrie, Olejnik and Henderson didnít even play a first team game for us. As for players coming in under MON there has been Petrov, Young and Carew all players that are better than those who have left. Bardsley was a loan signing brought in and then released by MON. I think MON is firstly trying to build a strong starting 11, then he will concentrate on rebuilding the squad. I for one havenít lost any sleep over any players who have left. For me they were dead wood suffering from past grandeur having been regulars in mediocre Villa teams and now surplus to requirement if we are going to go forward.
Hoss The Villain
I also believe MON knows who he can realistically get. We aint gonnna lure massive names, as we haven't got into the Champions league. Also, we are dealing with huge egos (agents and players!). I beleieve Martin will have put in enquiries for Defoe and SWP. But based on West Spam wanting 12m for Coker you can imagine the response.
tarzan
well my transfer dealings are going well I just signed kaka on fifa 07, so not all doom and gloom at the Villa
eltoro
Bored, very quiet day on the transfer front
notthedougellisstand
Anybody worried yet?
weller77
Just saw a rumour on Newsnow that Spurs want £18m for Defoe?????? The world has gone mad....................
Jon.H
just ready we have 11 days till the US tour...now i'm worried
Its All Over FC
Express and Star are saying that Spurs want £18mill for Defoe!! £18 F IN MILLION!!!!! The worlds gone mad!!!!
PBAVFC
Villa are offering £8 million and Spurs supposedly want £18 million, how about we meet in the middle at £13 million? TBH I would prefer Defoe to stay at Spurs but should a bid in the region of £12 million come in for him then it is going to be very hard to reject, especially if he doesn't sign a new contract.
OneAaronLennon
and to make matters worse it looks like weve ''missed out'' on Harewood.CURSE YOU GOD!***** Defoe.
Pking
let Defoe stay on the bench at Spurs. Why don't we offer 4 mil just for the laugh.Id rather we stick with what weve got up front than pay that money for him.
Pking
Yeah I'm sure we've 'missed out' on Harewood, just like we 'missed out' on Koumas, Distin and Nugent. I don't believe we were ever 'in' for any of these players. I do believe we wanted Bellamy but we weren't prepared to offer £75,000 per week and that is fair enough because he is not worth that much money.
notthedougellisstand
New kit is being released next Tuesday!
In MON we trust!
Hoss The Villain i know a few people that would argue that Petrov is/was not better than Davis..!
deemz
OAL, I would say Defoe is worth 11-12m. He'll be touted round the top 4 first. I've seen big resistance to signature on this thread. I'm not that bothered as a fit Luke Moore may prove to be as good. We need a right back and goalie more.
tarzan
let's start a fresh and base all transfers on the 16 mill Henry transfer, so Defoe 5mill, bid that if they say no, move on, personally I don't want to see him in a Villa shirt.
eltoro
what happened to Alfonso Alves?
Pking
eltoro....who do you want to see then? Carew and Defoe upfront sounds good to me. MON needs to get that fax machine fired up and start blasting off a few bids.
tylervilla
to be honest tylervilla there isn't much out there, I'm not happy with him saying he dosen't want to come to the Villa, I would have thought coming and playing week in week out for us would be a damn site better than not playing for spurs, whatever and whoever better start arriving and quickly, I said this over 3 weeks ago still nothings happened!
eltoro
If robben leaves, I doubt they'll sell SWP. And from what I saw in Copa America, Alfonso Alves is *****.
k_chelski
zzzzzzzzzz!
weller77
Just saw a headline on eatsleepsport about rivals signing Villa target. Nugent to Portsmouth? I asked myself whilst waiting for it to load, SWP to Man City perhaps? Then it loaded and I was gutted, nay almost suicidal, Harewood preparing to sign for Wigan, NOOOOOOO!!! MON has missed out again! What shall we do now Marlon has opted to ply his trade in the northwest! Help somebody.........
Jon.H
...did he say he didnt want to come to us or did he say he was happy at spurs. If its the later I would argue that we should want players who will fight for their place and not try and move as soon as their dropped (ste davies style).
tylervilla
(with ref to defoe not harewood crazy frog man)
tylervilla
agreed tyler
eltoro
I'm edgy because Portsmouth and Spurs have stolen a march on us by signing players who would have added quality to our line up - of this there can be no argument - irrespective of price. A goalkeeper, CB & RB are our priorities IMO. Hyppia?
tarzan
it now seems like we're going to put in a bid for him if news now is to be believed
eltoro
We'll see. I'm concerned about GK & RB positions as we've got no cover. Is Randy still over here?
tarzan
I'd rather have luke young in next than defoe. More paper talk hopefully
villain76
No.Old and slow.Neugent unproven dont feel we lost out to Pompy and Spurs have had these signings pretty much sewn up due to their offer of Europien footy. We only confirmed a bid for Reo and we got him so i count that as a 100% success rate in the transfer market. All the rest are just RUMORS or our own flights of fancy.Im as impatient as the next man but i feel it will all work out in the end.Agree wit your priorities Tarzan so who do you suggest would improve us in those positions?Cuddichini,Davis and Young?
sk1nner80
Hyppia to slow sorry
sk1nner80
I think GK: Gordon or Jussi, CB: tricky (Distin would have been my choice) RB: Young maybe, SWP - but is small in stature. The reason I suggested Hyppia was that we need some experience. Davis is good but lacks experience, so would represent a gamble at 8-10m.
tarzan
Sunderland upping bid for Gordon. Boro in for Young. Now I believe both would prefer us to the others but will MON pay over the odds to get them? At some stage it has to register that prices have gone crazy when wealthy Prem teams come calling at home and abroad. MON will have to pay to get what he wants.
Gazvilla
Villa have a solid squad but IMO you are still a little short of goals up front, you could do a lot worse the Defoe
Topspur1
hyppia to slow what?
ric112
too ;>)
koolbill
Alec and Notthedougellisstand - can you give me any idea who we are actually in for then ? I think you are in for a big shock guys come start of season, our target/budget was unprepared.
ASPINALL
How about a move for the Hertha Berlin midfielder Kevin Boateng? The guy is ready to make a move to England, despite interest from Sevilla, who have already tabled a 3.5 million bid. A young dynamic midfielder, who reportedly has also been attracting interest from Tottenham.
glensider
hyppia....is that some sort of sick joke? The expectations have been set by the board - I got something through in the post and it said they were aiming for champions league over the coming years with substantial player recruitment. But with the way other teams have strengthened I think we are even further away from this goal than when the season finished. There can be no excuses this transfer window. If the money is there go and get the players and stop the torment. (toys out of pram, ball picked up and going home now)......actually not finished yet....we know 8m wont get Defoe so why not just whack 10 or 11 on the table and go get our man. Bloomin heck I just want to see a superstar down the Villa . . . its been too long . . . I dont care who it is just buy one.......A A A A A GHHHHHH......Ive finally cracked im going down the pub
bigdiondubs
Think we have been had! wage bill slashed/season tickets gone through the roof/Spent 1.5 so far and Premiership money given to Villa is astronomical,if Laursen or Mellberg get injured next season then at the minute bottom 4/sorry 6
ASPINALL
bookmark - # 1000 Luke Young (CB I thought Ridgewell was playing quite well b4 being dropped) Davis 8 - 10 mill TOO MUCH. Must get Juss this guy could earn us 12 points alone. as for a striker - MOORE and Gabby plus Maloney should be be sufficient however to buy a proven premiership goal scorer (who?) is certainly going to cost over 12 mill. I say give MOORE a chance. Please MON don't play Gabby on the wing. Buy Sneijder or SWP (prefer Sneijder).
myleftfoot
^Aspinall - Of course I can't say definitively who Villa are going to sign. I'm a supporter. MO'N is the manager. Randy Lerner is the Chairman. They know. We don't. You were implying we were after players who've gone elsewhere. I'm saying that not only do I believe MO'N did not want those players, but I'm glad we didn't sign them as it they would have been a waste of our money. None of them would've significantly improved us, if at all. So my point is this - why are you so upset we haven't signed them? You say we either want to compete or we don't - well, we're not going to pose much of a threat by adding the likes of Koumas or Nugent to our ranks. We've got better in the squad already. Just be patient man.
Alec
eh! myleftfoot m8, you had a go at me a month ago when I said jussi would get us 14- 18 points, are you beginning to warm to me, nice to see we agree on one thing:0
eltoro
you cheeky monkey!
eltoro
I hope we sign Gordon,Jussi is class but Gordon has more years in him.I pray that we sign SWP if possible, what is the big deal with Sneider?how many people have seen enough of him?I haven't.
Pking
I`m concerned that we haven`t bought the players MON wanted and what i would consider"lesser"teams have,it is that simplistic, you say he didn`t want them and i`m TELLING you ( please understand that ) he did and thought they were in the bag which is why we released players at way under market value.
ASPINALL
Aspinall,I really hope you're wrong, but, I am becoming more worried about our lack of transfer activity. What is going on? I know people keep saying to calm down, be patient etc etc but its nearly been 6 weeks now and things are just too quiet. I really hope we kick into gear soon.
PBAVFC
"Keep the Faith" - Jon Bon Jovi
YatesyVillain
eltoro - u confuse me with someone else. Its the first time I have ever made comment on Jussi.
myleftfoot
Aspinal how can you say who MON wanted to buy you have no idea and neither do I unless you have inside info. Yep it is quiet and yes we do need some players. Of the guys who left only Gav played. Do you really think MON has come here to bury his career. No of course not but we need CB RB Striker
LITTLE 77
And a LB and RM and LM cover and dare I say a game breaker aka someone like Merson
myleftfoot
ps - LITTLE77. However you wish to think about the curremt state of the squad, the fact remains that it was inadequate last season and as far as I can tell its worse, at the mo. Now I have complete faith in MON's abilities as a coach/mgr however, if said desired players do not wish to come to the Villa then this worries me. If said desired players do wish to come to the Villa then it frustrates the bee jesus out of me because it seems to take an eternity to move on these targets. We need at least another 3 quality players GK, RB and Striker (proven) and ideally more creativity in midfield (Sneijder would be nice). The question is do we have time to get all these players b4 the season starts. I have to say at this rate no but then again I have no inside info so who knows? Just like sting ray - anything can happen in the next........
myleftfoot
we don't know who we are in discussions for. We have recently been strongly linked to Gordon, Luke Young and Defoe. For all we know genuine discussions are ongoing and making progress with all three and more. I still have faith that it will all be sorted come the start of the season. i do admit its frustrating, but the players we have "missed" out on wouldn't have improved us. Nugent? Wanted to go to Everton (He's an Everton fan), and we all know that, he won't set the world alight at Pompey because he wants to be elsewhere... Koumas? Good player going forwards but very lazy, never tracks back and no hard worker. Distin? Distin's a good player but he's not exactly world class so there's no great shame there either. Aspinall seems to be crapping himself that we are missing out on these "great" players, but they aint that great, and if we were so keen, why didn;t we bid? It didn;t take us that long to bid for NRC did it? Simple, we didn;t want them. Honestly, its frustrating, but things are moving behind the scenes, i can be patient.
The Usual Suspect
To all those who have become disenchanted. Firstly we do not know who MON wanted to buy, we can all summise and assume but we don't know. I don't believe he wanted half of the players who have been linked but I could be wrong. WE SIMPLY DON'T KNOW. To Aspinall you can tell everyone YOUR opinion but you don't know either. As for the comment that season tickets have gone through the roof. Are you rfeferring to supporters buying them or the price because the price has actually fallen by 5% from last season. It seems to me that the comments made by the club last season and this post-season have resulted in everyone believing that we were going to go out and spend massive amounts of cash at the beginning of the transfer window. I include myself in this. However, we haven't and being completely honest apart from the players the top five from last season have signed, Scott Parker and Geremi I wouldn't have wanted any of the other players to have come as I do not believe they would enhance our team significantly. My point is that we need to wait and see who the club sign. If, come 11 August we still have only signed Reo-Coker then I think we all have the right to ask questions of the management and the board but lets just wait and see.
notthedougellisstand
So this is the 2088th comment if my maths are correct,8 players have left that did a job last season and 1 has come in.Everyone and his aunt knows what we need in the squad and MON stated he wanted them signed/sealed by July 4th after he`d extended Mellbergs + McCanns deals-McCann has gone and Mellberg hasn`t extended deal yet so i`m starting to question whether there is an actual plan of action at all? I do have a bit of inside info which is normally 75% accurate but on the players i know MON wanted he`s correct, now i`d have been quite happy to have signed the Serbian under-21 squad for a tenner so we had back-up,can`t understand the sell-low and buy-high policy and we need to target REALISTIC targets.
ASPINALL
Ok,you sneaked in - 2089th !!
ASPINALL
Knowledge of this inside info source to whom you refer ? Its not the tea lady is it ? cos I'm sure she knows a thing or too about whats going on. I agree he said he wanted them in but it hasn't happened yet. As I said earlier wait until the season starts if we are still short on numbers then voice your frustrations.
notthedougellisstand
We all seem to be arguing about the same thing. The squad is thin and we need new players. Under Doug we were linked with Gzza and got Sasha now we are quiet and do business correctley. We are in a bad position to bargin with no european football to offer. Arguing between ourselves wont help and I have never known the sense of excitment about the club. However as a fan I would like the BIG player to come NOW. I just cant except that Randy MON etc have just given up
LITTLE 77
Be fair Aspinal may well know something we dont!
LITTLE 77
Yep its the tea lady,Beryl or Cheryl i think her name is?
ASPINALL
Come on Aspinal dont be hurt.
LITTLE 77
More player will be coming of that I am sure, MON wants to base his team on British players by the look of things.
col8
myleftfoot, agree the squad overall is not good enough and I think we need certain players in certain positions we had a small squad and sold so yes we are in a worse state. It is difficult for us to attract top players and have to be careful we do ont just buy for the sake of buying but yes I am frustrated.
LITTLE 77
So the tea-lady was the source. I see you also know the cleaner too.
notthedougellisstand
this saga is becoming more tedious than coronation street
Dales_Dad
Okay, what the bleep is the crack with Portsmouth ? Utaka on Sky saying Man.C/Newcastle were in for him but chose em,Campbell/Distin/Nugent all reject bigger clubs to go down to that pit of a ground?? Are they drugging them ( yep,i know they must throw dosh at them but for bleeps sake!! )
ASPINALL
sorry m8 thought it was you, still its good that we both agree on the same thing, lets get jussi in
eltoro
^ Ok Aspinall, if you are TELLING me that we were in for those players, this would indicate that you're privy to some sort of inside info that the rest of us aren't aware of. If that is the case, is there anything else you'd like to share? I've also gotta say that if we did really want those players, my faith in MO'N would be significantly more shaken than not buying players at all. It's absolutely pointless getting this upset over not signing Koumas, Bellamy etc. We've already got better in the squad (I'd take Gardner over Koumas and Gabby/Luke over Bellamy) so they'd likely take us backwards. You're still operating under the infamous 'cornershop' mentality of the Ellis regime. We're not looking at that level of player anymore. Our sights are set firmly higher. We might not always get all of our first choices but there's no point in bringing in second-best (or in the case of the players discussed, third- or fourth- best) just for the sake of spending money. Contrary to what some may think, there's a lot of money available but it's not a bottomless pit and MO'N will manage those finances responsibly.
Alec
Which keeper are we in talks with (according to Setanta/newsnow)?
tarzan
18m for Defoe, 5.7m for Koumas - this the market we are dealing in, with no European football.
tarzan
Newcastle in for Young, according to news now, this is all going t1ts up, whats with the wait over these transfers, 2 months since the end of the season and over 7 players out and 1 in, and please don't tell me about the date the transfer window opened, work shoud have taken place well before that, lets be honest do you believe we're going to sign 5 quailty signings, newcastle haven't finished buying M. city haven't even started, and we've got 1 new player, still got faith, if so it must be blind faith, it keeps playing on my mind what the Celtic fans keep saying, he does all is buying in the last 10 mins, seems they were right there. whatever all you optimist's think you have to agree, things haven't gone to plan have they. and that ain't down to you or me, and all those people that went out to buy season tickets on the strengh of those buys, at this moment must be feeling a little let down!
eltoro
I`ve posted on other debates that i`m going to be a happy bunny until deadline,i`ve given my opinion along with everyone else so we can all look back on Sept 1st and see who was correct,we`ll have played 4 league games by then so let`s see.As we are not actually being linked with anyone anymore guess this debate....may.....d..i..e..
ASPINALL
Eltoro, you are still panicking. We are all over egging the pudding big time by saying "seven players out", only Maccan was playing regularly. The top 4 take thier pick and the rest follow - Mark Highes said that and was bang on, the greedy agents and egotistical players are pimping thier wares to all the CL clubs right now (look at the Tevez fiasco - he's still a West Ham player apparently!). The only players we could have possibly signed were Geremi and Parker (from the other non top 4 clubs) and NRC was signed instead of Parker.
tarzan
Yes!! I have an ally in eltoro !!!! Sorry,i`ll be nice from now on. WE`VE ALL BEEN LED UP GARDEN PATH !!!!!! Last one. IT`S A JOKE !!! Honest, last one
ASPINALL
Who's the keeper then?
tarzan
Moustache boy Ridge linked out to Wolves!
tarzan
Excitement? over it's the young French dude (not Gordon).
tarzan
mmmmm you smell nice. thanks. i know. im thinking of changing my name to tony the tiger.
ric112
NRC in the mail saying MON reckons 4 or 5 more will come in so maybe it will all kick-off around when new kit is out and about after all ? Carson,Young ( as i don`t know any RB`s ) Defoe,SWP and a centre half would be lovely.
ASPINALL
This is not about who is right or wrong (post above) its about opinions. I believe we have the best manager at the moment for the club. That does not mean I or you have to agree with everything he says or does and that goes for Randy as well. However the problem is we want news, news and gossip. Its not blind faith its a realisation that we are in a strange position we all think we should just go out and buy who ever we want well it dont work like that. I trust not blind faith, the board and management to do whats right, we have no other option, unless we start a sack the board, management campaign, any one for Trinity road march again.
LITTLE 77
I come in piece guy's just a question for you. Do you think that maybe it is taking MON a while to get use to the difference in transfer prices and salaries, in comparison to in Scotland?
Topspur1
Oh! and I can't believe he would not have been interested in Distin, I know i was disapointed we didn't even go for him on a free. I suspect you are like us in the fact that we have a wage structure that you are not ready to break.
Topspur1
Ithink everyone wanted Distin. Villa are in a strange position that we cant offer euro football and it looks like Randy wont break the wage structure and pay massive amounts, so we are fighting a very hard battle to get top top players to this club
LITTLE 77
LITTLE 77 Pompey are not in europe either, but i don't think they have a rigid pay structure (great little player in his day Little)
Topspur1
True but as you say they will prob throw £££ at him. I was making a point regarding europe for other potential players. Spurs for example are a better option than Villa at the mo!, the London thing and europe. I think we may be expecting to much at the Villa, years of Mr Ellis and now hes gone we have all gone mad.
LITTLE 77
I think were expecting too much at the mo dont forget this time last year, all we wanted was to stay up.
Pking
To be honest tarzan I don't care what Mark Hughes has to say Blackburn's problems are not on the same level as us, and to answer your question over panicking, I'm not panicking m8, I'm p1ssed off with the lack of signings, it as nothing to do with panic, it makes no difference about McCann being the only one getting a game, what matters is, the squad is 7-8 players lighter, and this needs to rectified, its all about having a squad to challenge for Europe, and at this time we don't have that. and just to finish, people are talking about expectations being to high!, well when you go from Doug & O'leary to MON & an american billionaire, then theres no wonder expectations are high, and so they should be!
eltoro
Blackburn's problms are identical to us - at this time, as the top 4 have the pick of the players. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. Look at the quality Liverpool, Chelsea, Man U have signed. Arsenal signed a striker straight away after Henry left. Expectations can be as as high as you like, but if you're not in the Champions League you are not going to attract the big name players.
tarzan
its not quite as simple as putting in a bid for a player and then buying. chances are we have enquired about Young, and Charlton have started the story in media to force other potentials into making moves. We'd do the same for our players once we knew they were going. it is fair. offers will be made, contracts put in front of the likes of young and then decisions will be made. often its the selling club and player that delay things not the buyers. newcastle have just as much right to bid for young as we do, and he ent gone anywhere yet! relax people. all will be well.
The Usual Suspect
It is about expectations being to high, they were last season and they still are now. The squad overall is not good enough. I am feed up with three year cycles aka DOL, Brian and Fat Ron. We were not good enough to qualify for europe last season. The squad needs lots of work. £30 million if that is our kitty is not big enough. Again agree with every one we want that big name and soon!!
LITTLE 77
Eltoro, couple of questions for you, assuming you wanted these players: would you pay 18.5m for Defoe? Would you have paid 5.7m for Koumas?
tarzan
I don`t understand LITTLE77 ?? You say peoples expectations are too high but then you state you want this "big name" so surely you are guilty of the same! It`s not about high expectations it`s about delivering promises that have been given,if any team wants to push on from previous season they need to have a big initial investment,it`s simple - if we can`t compete on wages and transfer fees then you don`t sell the fringe players but let`s all hope the plan works out for MON.
ASPINALL
Of course I want big signings Im a fan thats what we all want Im as frustrated as you and every one else. I am saying that we as fans have massive expectations of our club and what the board and management can deliver that may not be realistic. You seem to be with your last comment wanting MON to fail?? This I dont understand. Last season when we started well I heard at the match talk of champions league, then when we went through the bad spell it was relegation. Now I dont know you and I am not saying you were part of that but it drove me potty and the same is happening now and will happen next season.
LITTLE 77
Samuel, Hendrie, Maccan & Hughes they were minge players and should have been sold irrespective of who we're buying. We've got better youngsters coming through, so they wouldn't have got a kick. Samual and Hendrie were on wads too.
tarzan
The potential sticking point for any clubs interested in the ex-Nantes midfielder is wages, with Djemba-Djembaís £14,000 a week salary proving a difficult negotiating point. Backing up my point above. 728k per year for that pile of cack.
tarzan
Why would i want MON to fail? If that happens my life becomes very miserable but i don`t have the rose-tinted specs of some fans.I personally couldn`t give a frig around European football and if 4 or 5 players of better quality than we`ve sold come in then like everybody else i`ll be walking around with big smile etc
ASPINALL
Topspur,if you have a wage structure then what is it ? How can you afford Davids/Keane keep Berbatov etc. I think highest earner was Angel and now it`s NRC which is about 35k per week but you boys/Pompey/West Ham are in a different league to us ( unsure why )
ASPINALL
I thought Carew & Barry were on more than that? Didn't they get a 1.24% "cost of living" rise like me?
tarzan
Ha ha,don`t you live with Monkeys ?? You don`t need it!
ASPINALL
I often spank my Monkey, if I'm bored. Which is quite a lot recently dealing with all this enthralling transfer action.
tarzan
Just read the Joachim story on newsnow - desperado!
tarzan
Aspinall our wage structure is £45,000 per week, Berbatov is only on £22,000pw. Defoe £25,000pw. Our top earners are King £44,000pw, Keane £40,000pw 7 Bent £45, 000pw. Don't ask me how we get away with it
Topspur1
Back to your problem/our problem of attracting players. Whether we like it or not Hughes is right, More often than not we have to try and unearth young players or we get lucky like Berbatov. Unless you adopt the policy adopted by Pompey & West Ham, which is throwing money at them and hope they sign. It works in the short term but in the long run you are putting an anchor around your neck.
Topspur1
My thought is that when these players sign for Pompey that both the Redknapps include their wives into the deal, talksport have just had Gordons buddy on who says 8m has been turned down from Sunderland and Villa are also interested - can`t see us paying 8m plus so guess he`s off the radar, but great news if we`re re-signing JJ. Topspur1,you were paying Robinson more than we could 4 years ago and that gap seems to have extended to half of the Prem, fair play to you-i wish we had your squad
ASPINALL
To be honest aspinall, as you probably noticed we had to start from scratch. Get rid of all the dead wood, and build through youth. Thats how we kept the wages down. Then once we were stable we slowly increased salaries. I have an idea MON is maybe doing the same, he is no ones fool. As a fan that has had very little success for 50 odd years (at least you have had a league title and European cup), we can at last look to a brighter future. But we still have won squat! Trust MON he will get it right, but it will take time
Topspur1
Our youh policy has worked wonders over the years, I am not suggesting that we dont buy any one but maybe Martin and his team are going to put a lot of faith in theses lads.
LITTLE 77
isnt it strange how other people view each others teams Topspurs1 post. I meet a lot of fans from around the country through work and they cant believe we could be negative at all. I am not saying we shouldnt be its just a comment.
LITTLE 77
Hope you are right buddy, realistic value for money lies in the European market but we don`t seem to be in it ( at the moment )
ASPINALL
No and that is the one area that is frustrating, annoying etc. We really should be doing more there and I did think MON would pull a couple of players out the hat from there, he did at Celtic. Did he buy Lubo M (cant spell his surname midfielder for Celtic) he was ace or was that John Barnes? anyway players from europe is the way forward
LITTLE 77
tarzan if you read what other people wrote, you'd know that I don't want Defoe at any price let alone 18 mill, I also don't want koumas, nor Bellamy! to be honest the only player I want to see at the Villa is jaaskelainen, I also wanted Barton, and Reo who we have, I would'nt mind yakubu, and a decent RB, and Blackburn are not in the same league as us when it comes to buying and attracting players, not since Jack walker left the club have they been a force, and now we have Mr Lerner I feel we have to be one step ahead of them, if you're putting us on a level with the likes of Blackburn then there really is no hope for us
eltoro
I think Dr Jo bought him,i was under impression Ian Storey-Moore just spent all season targetting foreign talent so i`m praying Buffon,Alves,Riquelme and Ramos are all signed/sealed and just awaiting kit launch.
ASPINALL
Ha ha. Wasnt Dr Joe our chief european scout after Doug had walked him round the garden and showed him his roses, maybe we should have kept him
LITTLE 77
You guys are arguing about the samething. Yes the club promised exciting signings and no, they haven't arrived as yet. Thats not expectations being too high, thats just taking someones word at face value. End of story. It comes down to wether you are frustrated/p1ssed off or not. I would find it extremely hard to believe that you couldn't be frustrated at the mo.
myleftfoot
why be frustrated? come on? hit me! we've been told to be PATIENT. i for one have no doubts that we will be happy come the end of the transfer window, and until that date arrives, i shall not pass judgement. true there is little to talk about, but why not discuss the weather for a few weeks to pass the time?
ric112
ric112 - because we want to come out fighting at the start of the season and the longer it takes to get these players in the harder it becomes. Patients is a good thing but I think if nothing happens b4 the friendlies begin then patient may start to ware thin. Having said this - imagine how frustrating it might be for MON.
myleftfoot
we like to panic really don't we us Villa fans?Nice day today though, only a little shower, some cloud cover but later it got much brighter. Nah, think I'll leave the weather talk well alone!!!!!
The Fear
oh I agree by the way, time to really panic is when the transfer window closes if nothing has happened, although it would be good to get the new boys settle with a pre-season behind them, otherwise you get a situation like Petrov where he didn't really get up to speed!
The Fear
Sorry, nothing to do with transfers, or the weather but I found the Villa-Inter penalty shoot out on Youtube. Brilliant stuff, brought a tear to my eye. Those were the days (looks nostalgically into the distance).......
PBAVFC
Sorry guy's to intrude, but I've spent the best part of 2yrs reading these message boards. But have only had the bottle to sign up and get on board the last couple of month. Having said that football fans never fail to amaze me, I can't remember who posted this but one of your colleagues made the point that their was a point that staying up was all he wanted. Now you want the best players and CL football, nothing wrong with that and it would be sad if we all couldn't do that. But guy's we all have to be realistic, for me MON will be happy with top 10, with the view to pushing on next season. But thatís hard to take if youíre a fan, we generally can't see past the coming season. I can't believe Iíve gone on that much on someone elseís message board. Good luck with your a season
Topspur1
2yrs for that? If your not going to moan about lack of transfer activity please dont bother your not contributing.
bigdiondubs
Harsh bigdion. Topman Topspur1. Good to see some more fans from other clubs talking sense (we don't get too many of them on here!) "Patience".....Take That
YatesyVillain
Topspur1 is the most intelligent/fair spuds fan i`ve ever heard,if we came top 10 with current squad i would explode in pants!!!
ASPINALL
We are ready to move for Tottenham defender Anthony Gardner - but have been told to stump up £3m for him. (Daily Mirror)
glensider
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ASPINALL
Gardner is no better than Ridgewell or Cahill so i hope this is not true...!
deemz
The only good thing about Gardner is that he is a Villa fan!! This is not the type of signing we need to take us forward. We may as well keep Ridgewell. It is the Daily Mirror after all, so better to take it with a pinch of salt!
In MON we trust!
Talk on BBC Sport about Freddy Adu's agent trying to encourage Celtic to make a move. This is the young USA wonderkid who has had a trial at Man Utd and been linked with Chelsea in the past. Nike have a golden-handcuffs deal with the lad so surely he could be worth an effort - tie him to a 5year deal and see how he gets on. The USA-Lerner, Nike and O'Neill-giving-youngsters-a-shot links make this one seem a good call!!
deano.avfc
you've been linked with Big Antony Gardner today, £3m from us at spurs! good business if you ask me, he's been solid for us when called apon, is tall good in the air and has played for England!
BaldyYid
Its a good shout, deano.avfc. He is supposed to be a very good prospect. Not sure if he would come but surely worth a try. Is it just me or does it look as though we are only trying to sign one player at a time. I get the impression that we go after one player and wait to see what happens before considering anyone else. I may be wrong but if this is the case then why ?
notthedougellisstand
Freddy Adu is rubbish, why are some Spurs fans so keen on us buying some of their players?
Pking
Pking, Have you seen him play regularly ?
notthedougellisstand
Pking how do you know that??? He was an awesome 15/16 year old player and he is still young (18) with the world at his feet. How is he rubbish?? I will agree that he may perhaps have developed a little more but he is playing in USA!!! How is he going to become a greater player. Perhaps that why his agent is saying that despite being young and wanting to stay 'home' that he wont get better unless he is playing regularly for a team where he can get the best coaching. Surely out state-of-the-art facilities, Nike connection, USA connection and Martin O'Neill would be an attractive prospect??? Maybe even Juan Pablo will put a good word in for us!!! Surely he will come on leaps and bounds. We are talking about a raw talent who will come excellent under the right staff. We can offer him everything he will ever need. It may be risky but the reward could be tremendous. I remember a certain other player with raw talent plucked from the wilderness who turned out to be a world-class striker in Dwight Yorke.
deano.avfc
Why has no other teams tried to sign him considering Man U had a good look at him. When he was drafted to DC United in 2004 it was politically pre-arranged.There is a rumour that he is actually 27.He was chosen to be the MLS golden boy and is now getting less and less attention as he struggles to live up to expectations (anyone remember Landon Donovon) Look at his stats on wikipedia there not great. He is as good as any other acadamy player in England and is certainly not what Villa need.
Pking
Yes but Sir Alex had nothing but praise for him, and a lot of players who are not good enough for Man Utd first XI still could be deemed better than some of our players!! He has time on his side and I just think hes worth a shot.
deano.avfc
I can't believe Sunderland have signed CHopra for £5m. Keane has lost the plot. He is an average Championship player who couldn't cut at Newcastle even when they had no strikers due to injury a couple of years ago. The world has gone mad.
notthedougellisstand
I get the feeling that 2 week trial thing with Adu and Man u was just a p.r. excercise for the mls and nike and promoting the prem in the us,Alex was hardly going to say he was crap.He very young but he is struggling in mls,our youth acadamy is one of the best in England.
Pking
how could he be 27 with an american passport since he was knee-high to a grasshopper? tony yeboah was in his early 40's when he scored his wonder goal against liverpool, but adu can not possibly be another african age-faker. anyway, i'd like to see him at villa. ahem...sign vagner love ahem.
ric112
Yep,so true - this Premiership has gone crazy, trouble is you have to join in so you don`t get relegated !! Madness
ASPINALL
If Gabby played in MLS they would have declared him the next Pele by now.Riccy Scimeca would have been the next Beckenbauer.
Pking
if its to be believed, 2 mill is to much for us to pay for jaaskelainen, what a load of b4ll4cks, I'd pay double that and still feel we got a good deal,
eltoro
Man City splashing the cash now on a young striker, what's the betting on 3-4 more for them? And all we've been linked to is three failed bids and Anthony Gardner. We wanna start acting soon just to give the signings a bit of squad practice at least, squeaky bum time is approaching, trust him and have faith doenst wash with me as someone said before if it was a manager we'd had for a long time then yeh okay but he isn't so i won't. A 'tic fan said to me theres been times when MON had the cash but never spent it. UTV!
villain76
If it is true about Jussi,i will cry in my beer
ASPINALL
I would be very surprised if that is true about Jaaskelainen. I think Bolton would want at least £3m for him. Even so at £3m he would be a great purchase as he has still got at least 4 years left at the highest level. Even so, if we have baulked at the asking price I am going to be extremely disappointed and wonder what is going on.
notthedougellisstand
its obviously ****, don't you learn!?
ric112
LUKE YOUNG £3.5M is a done deal. CURTIS DAVIES £6M plus Ridgewell offered to WBA. Defoe or SWP for £12M take your pick. Leaving just a keeper with Jasskelinan,Gordon,Carson all available. Players are choosing WHams £££s or the top 4 so just be patient and trust our great manager.

How stupid are other teams site members? Did nobody tell them we can read what they write about their players? Anthony Gardner is crap, and they can't wait to get rid of him. Our defence was so much better than Spurs last year, so why would we want their second choice?

And I hereby state that Bianchi will be next seasons Berbatov - you heard it here before anywhere else and we should all bookmark this page to prove I am right in 12 months time. He is a genuine goalscorer and it is a great bit of business for City. Bugger - we didn't even go for him.
CLVilla
like a midget at a urinal, we should stay on our toes cos something big is about to happen!
ric112
Amongst the "panic" we just need to be clear on what it is we actually need. For all those who want another striker, are you saying (assuming Carew stays fit) you want Moore and Gabby to be benched all year? For those who want another midfielder which 4 out of Barry, Young, Petrov, Gardener, NRC, Maloney, and Berger do you want on the bench or in the stands? OK we need a right back and possibly a GK, but most of all we need decent cover for some positions so it doesn't go pear-shaped over Christmas again.
PatMcMahon
that argument is pap, do you think man utd worry about benching smith and saha when they will be playing tevez and rooney. You need a strong squad to cover injuries and provide competition. Do I want moore to be benched, if we can sign another of Carews standard then yes.
bigdiondubs
CLVilla - you maybe right but from what I've seen he is only ok. At the mo u could have Henty in that side and he would score goals. Its about supply and they are (i believe) struggling in that department.
myleftfoot
* Henry
myleftfoot
MLF - how right you are. Bianchi is a target man, good with his back to goal, and can hold the ball up well. Should create a few of his own chances, but agree he will need support. Just think we will all be saying "why didn't we spot him first" next year.
CLVilla
We do need cover for Carew who seems a bit injury prone. I would really like to see some creativity in the mifield area (a game breaker) A right back must be a priority tho.
myleftfoot
RB,CH and Keeper is all we need for next season but must be top,top quality.
ASPINALL
Bianchi may be the business but it is an insult to even mention him in the same sentence as Berbatov!!! If he scores 23 goals and gets 15+ assists in his first season at City then I will take that back, but until then let's compare Berbatov with players like Rooney, Tevez, Henry etc, not Bianchi!!!
OneAaronLennon
yeah but mate have u even seen bianchi play yet? did u know berbatov was gonna do that well in his first season? doubt it.
ric112
thought i would scrape the barrell of the internet (because I like to work for my fellow vital villa bretheren) and found these rumours.....ASTON VILLA. Sneijder AJAX, Adu DC UNITED, Gravesen CELTIC, kameni ESPANYOL....yep i really have nothing else to do
bigdiondubs
OAL - get a life will you. It is a metaphor you plonker. Berbatov was this seasons surprise package - and I think the Bianchi will be next years. So bloody touchy about a one season wonder.
CLVilla
CLVilla, I respect your opinion and I am not going to resort to the insults which you have already, ie "get a life will you". If you think that Berbatov is a "one season wonder" then you have got another thing coming!!! We have yet to see the best of him in terms of goalscoring, I have a £20 bet on him bagging atleast 25 goals this coming season. Berbatov is easily in the top 5 strikers in World, how many players can you tell me of who have got atleast 20 goals each season for the past 6 seasons? Not many I believe, maybe RVN. This maybe biased but I believe that Berbatov is the best all round player in the Premiership. He scores, he creates, he leads by example, he defends, he tackles, he works, he gives 110% etc etc etc. Going back to my first post, I said thst Bianchi may be the business but can we leave out the comparisons with Berbatov please? Next seasons McCarthy sounds better.
OneAaronLennon
In answer to your questions ric112 - No, I have not seen Bianchi play. I knew when we signed Berbatov it was a coup even at that steep price of £10.9 million. I knew that he was a proven goalscorer at club level (over 110 goals in 6 seasons at Leverkusen) and at international level (31 goals in 50 starts). In all honesty I did not know that Berbatov was going to do so well in his first season, but who did?
OneAaronLennon
I don't think that argument's "pap". I just think we are closer to a European spot than we sometimes think. So I would like to see Gabby and Luke Moore (& Craig Gardner) playing because I think they are good enough to take us to the next level. And we've got some recently signed players who we expect to see the best of this season. So what I want is a couple more class signings (personally I'd settle for a RB & aGK) and then some decent squad players to provide cover and provide competition for places. You don't always improve by bringing in the big names. Did Chelsea improve last year? And would the players Man U signed want to come to us at the moment? Get real!
PatMcMahon
Independent report Young now available for 2.7m so if you want him MON then please go get him !
ASPINALL
OAL - respect for having faith. As it stands however, it is a fact that Berbatov has had one good season. I am not saying he won't be brilliant again, but he wouldn't be the first player to burst onto the scene and then struggle thereafter. You did "bite" rather hard at a comment that was actually a compliment!!!
CLVilla
sorry lads but spurs attacking line is scary. th think they are gonna push the gunners all the way for 4th. but taking faith in kaboul could be a risk. OAL would you have preferred a more proven defende? Besides we have gotta sign a RB and CB and soon before Dirk Kite and Fernando Torres roll up to villa park S.H.I.T!

Apparently the young French keeper impressed on his trial, but we will not be goning forward with any deal according to sky sports because le harve want 2 mill, I'm beginning to think my mums in charge of outgoing money at Villa, and thinks prices were never like this in the sixties! next time Villa agree a price first then everyones time isn't wasted, we're slowly becoming a laughing stock. man citeh sniffing about the 'hoss' now. I hope they get him, he's like balsa wood.
villain76
on OS it says MON said that the french keeper did well but they never got as far as agreeing a price and we will keep tabs on him. Why are we still using the old badge on the OS.
deemz
Duh - Chalky is back - no words with more than one syllable please!!!!! Do Spurs fans spend all of their life trawling web sites looking for the slightest mention of their team? And then over react and make fools of themselves?
CLVilla
Such as...... who?
OneAaronLennon
I just wrote an 8 line paragraph, read it then thought, I can't be bothered anymore, so this might please a few people, but I'm off, I've had enough, I'll see you all on the 12th august after the game, good luck in everything you do till then.
eltoro
good bye eltoro - I'm off to. Too much crap and not enough speculation or facts.
myleftfoot
CLVilla-Whats with the personal abuse..??Seems you are the simpleton..........I can only assume that your failure to compete in the transfer market is the reason for your rudeness.Top 6 he he he.!!
chalky76
Come back eltoro/myleftfoot !! We`re spending 25m this week!!!!
ASPINALL
Well Chalky and OAL - me old muckas - if I use Berbatov as the benchmark to measure success against, and then 2 Spurs fans spout off about what a great player he is and act all indignant, then I have to assume you cannot read or reason. IT WAS A COMPLIMENT not a criticism!!!!
CLVilla
Wowzers SWP DEFOE AND YOUNG! do my peepers deceive me!? in the world of the sunday mercury aka birmingham mail it is deemed to be true. Defoe on his own i wouldn't give two hoots about but cushioned between those two i could go for that, hell yeah. But lo, a rush of lazy journalism has hit me and i believe it not. Bring on next weeks frustrations!
villain76
Ah ***** beer eyes on, i meant sunday mirror aka bull*****e.
villain76
Eltoro & MLF - I can see your frustration and that's why I don't post as much as I used to but it's only a bit of fun. If you want your teddies back, no problem :-) The OS site has SWP wanting to come here but for only 10 mill? Can't see Chelsea selling him for that much and MON paying much more. HAVE to get a right back!! Tommy wouldn't be the end of the world to start the season with. Can't make my mind up on the strikers. Could be Luke's season. Does MON want a back up CB, like Gardner, or a quality one so Laursen or Olly are dropped? As for the players leaving only 3 had a chance of playing so it's not as bad as it looks. UTV
Gazvilla
nice set of links in the paper, although nothing new really, lets hope by Friday we are all smiling with those players in the bag and then we can start to get greedy and ask who is next!? Still need a keeper? + ?
The Fear
It really would cheer everyone up wouldn't it. Maybe they are doing it on purpose - letting everyone get depressed on purpose - and then announcing loads of top signings all at once? Only joking - of course. Craig Gordon going for silly money, so can't see that happening. Is Carson still available? Also, apparently we are interested in Riquelme - who wouldn't be!!!!!
CLVilla
Carson and Djourou loans on top of SWP/DEFOE/YOUNG would be sweet, sweet pie!
ASPINALL
As usual the Sunday Mirror don't quote any sources or anything to substantiate their claims, I'm afraid I think it's just speculation as SWP is currently in the US with Chelsea and played yesterday, Defoe doesn't want to come so out of the three I think the only one we stand a chance of getting is Luke Young. I'd love to be proven wrong though..........
Jon.H
According to 'Various' newspapers (I am getting this off the SkySports Tabloid Talk) we after Crouch for 20million - now I'm guessing Lerner is in this for the business and that isnt good.
Miss_Aston
defoe is a little poof and a money grabber, we could bo better on the continent for less money. SWP and Young would be welcome.
son_of_cher
cant believe no one has just asked Tarzans Brother, after all he got the Bellamy "done deal" spot on didn't he?????
mackaavfc
Haha i remember tarzan's comment. I think the deal may have been on the cards but Bellend wanted too much money....im glad it didnt happen anyway.
son_of_cher
mackaavfc. West Ham offered him £75k a week so suprise suprise he took that. I told you about Ashley Young and Reo Spit roaster joining. Luke Young next week will start the ball rolling with another 3 players coming in. My big concern is a keeper with Sorenson a liability. Look what effect Van der sar had with Man U, we have to find a relaible keeper Jaskelinan for £4m is great business and im praying MON agrees with me.
tarzansbrother
On a real sunday mercury vibe they suggest we're looking at lucho gonzales but valencia are also after him and are bidding 12 mill, havent had time to google him so i haven't a scooby doo about him. They also add that villa are set to miss out on SWP. As an article i believe that one rather than the mirrors
villain76
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jM1j3IjQ0t0 just found that, not bad looking. More paper talk perhaps?
villain76
looks ok from the vid, surely if we get him we have to have that Shakira music lined up for when he scores.
bigdiondubs
Tarzans Bro, hardly ground breaking news Young and Reo-Coker, now if you had of told us about Carew 5 hours before the press broke the story like i did, then i would have taken my hat off to you mate.
mackaavfc
CLVilla-the one season wonder comment brought the swift defence from me & OAL............As for Defoe,he"s no better than Vassell. He"s never scored more than 13 league goals in a season, even Vassell has double his international goals.....SWP is going nowhere either,if he was he would of gone to either us or Arsenil by now.
chalky76
SWP would not go to Spurs
mackaavfc
Or arsenal due to them being chelseas rival and them not realy desperate for cash. This should cheer us all up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkSU0kRBSWs&mode=related&search= lol
Newman
Little bit of a laugh for you. Just goes to sho how much the papers really know rumour pulled from sky sports "tabloid talk" section Chelsea could make a move for Real Madrid striker Fabio Cannavaro - The People. Fabio Cannavaro - Italain captain and 2006 world cup winner. Position - Defenfer. shameful.
Eaton_thevillafan
I think the story about big Sam making an enquirey about Ronaldinho has to be the crappiest one Ive ever heard, that cant be true it would brilliant if it was.
Pking
are chalky 76 and Villain 76 brothers?
Pking
But, at this moment in time, Berbatov is a one season wonder. I am not saying he will remain so, but the fact ais that at this point in time he has had one good season in the EPL. He would not be the first player to struggle second time around - Aaron Lennon anyone~? Anyone else seen the Maloney to Celtic story?
CLVilla
not 2 much happening still then,ah well back 2 the roasting hot costa del sol sunshine then with an ice cold beer waiting for me..................................UTV
Belfast Villain
Pking-you cheeky sod! no lahndener in this house. Belfast villain- you jammy sod. More signings next week, it has been confirmed by my spirit guide.
villain76
Villan 76 i hope your spirit guide is well informed. i would love to be a fly on the wall in MON's office. well as always lets wait and see next week.
Eaton_thevillafan
Berbatov is way better then your players thats why he skinned you lot at the Lane.
Frisky
why does everyone think ALAN SMITH isn gd nuff for villa. He wasn prolific cos a major injury and wasn playin. wen he is playin not only does he finish well as shown at leeds he also is the tackler we need to frighten opposition. A proper english player but european quality finishing. ur forgettin the reason he went to man utd and the fact they bought him in the first place. The biggest football team in the world dont jus but average joes. If we get smith i think it wud be a major coup and would definetly immprove us. plus at 6 million he wud definetly be the best ull get for that unlike the other overpriced strikers around. CAREW AND SMITH WUD BE DEVILISH!
GABBY16
Ooooh - a new fish has taken the bait. Welcome Frisky!!!!
CLVilla
GABBY16 don't wish to put a dampner on things but didn't SAF buy Djemba-Djemba - he wasnt good enough to be an average joe!
Miss_Aston
darn it! but alan smth's better right!?!?!? hahaha everyone makes mistakes?!!?!?! ah technically dj-dj came from france so therefore alan smith has played welll in premier league djemba-djemba cudn do it ts always a risk with foreigners but smithers plays prem and plays prem well. DAMPEN THT! pleeez dnt. let me have my moral victory
GABBY16
I'm glad I'm not in business with some of the posters on these transfer threads. I know it's frustrating to see everyone else spending their cash, but there are a few things to remember: 1. NEVER believe what the newspapers say, or the bloke who works at VP, or your best friends cousin. Unless there's a signed contract they're all just guessing like the rest of us. 2. Think carefully about the players other teams are signing. Do you REALLY want them at VP, or is it just that another team appears to be active and we don't (yet)? 3. Remember one of the golden rules of buying : don't let the other guy know how much you want what he's selling. Pretend to walk away. Play it cool. Make him sweat to try to bring the price down (even if your fans are impatient!) 4. In the same vein, keep your cards close to your chest. Shouting the odds all over the newspapers looks big and might calm the fans but you'll jack the price up and tell your rivals what you're up to. All of us, including MON and Randy, should want the same thing : the best possible players at the cheapest possible price. The last thing we should want is for the MON to make signings just for the sake of keeping us lot quiet - that used to be Doug's game, for heaven's sake!! Be patient, keep calm, and let's see what kind of team we end up with before the window closes.
BobTheBuilder
I couldn't agree with Bob the builder more. My five year old son will be happy to hear that.
The Usual Suspect
I'm back because we are now talking about speculation again, which is what this thread is all about, NOT Bagging spurs fans (although goodness knows why they are on our site). Lets leave the abuse to less capable supporters and carrying on dreaming. UTV PS ASPINALL sounds like you have been dreaming
myleftfoot
mlf - What have i done! BTB - do you think we`ve sold too cheap ?
ASPINALL
How good does Beast Baptista look tonight ? Loan ?
ASPINALL
Bobthebuilder very nice post indeed. UTV
villain76
No way he was olayin with an amazing team in Arsenal last season and couldnt cope with the prem and the amount of chances the gunners give him was unbeliveable
sk1nner80
Hi Aspinall: I guess another rule of business is that your assets are only worth what somebody is prepared to pay. If a player is deemed excess to requirements by whoever is in charge at the time, we should basically get them off the payroll as soon as possible. The only time you would make a bidder wait would be if you have more than one bidder. Only those in the know would know that, but I can't see anybody at VP deliberately selling cheap if they had more than one offer.
BobTheBuilder
yadda yadda. Buy some players like you said you were going to. end of.
bigdiondubs
hear...hear BDD
myleftfoot
Just a thought on the numerous polls about should we buy this player or that player - We should include the option "would be happy to sign a player full stop" Daily Telegrath picking up on that well worn piece - SWP, Defoe and Young to sign this week for the Villa. I have a great deal of time for the Telegrath but this story is wearing rather thin. Would be great if true but I can't see Chelsea selling if thingy goes to Madrid.
myleftfoot
Guardian has said Defoe is stopping to fight for a place at spurs, not bothered really, and another rag says the young deal will be done this week, if true then i'll be pleased to see that completed.
villain76
Id rather we take Vassell for 1.5 mil than Defoe, and continue to give Luke and Gabby football.
Pking
p.s. I am mental,but could worth a shot.
Pking
Vassell?! Phuk that. I'd rather have Beattie. SWP should come as he is now never goin g to get a game with marauding Malouda; Jose has no confidence in him.
koolbill
I'm happy with our non panic buying policy. When's the away kit out?
tarzan
we need a goalie and RB - WHO ARE WE GOING FOR?
tarzan
i dont mind luke young but people are saying 5 million and dats alot considerin nigel de jong was sposed to be 2 mill. plus heard bout a link wid lucho gonzalez. now it wud be nice to replace ANGEL! with another ex- river plate south-american. bring a bit of glam to our team. jus hope maybe he is better! and julio baptista?!?
GABBY16
I can't believe I am saying this but I have now lost interest in the whole who are we going to sign debate. I've now resigned myself to waiting until we actually sign someone and then making further comment. This will be my final post until we sign someone. BTW I hope we sign Luke Young, SWP or Sneijder, Jaaskelianen and Yakubu. Although I don't think we will sign Yakubu or Sneijder. I look forward to posting again when we sign someone. UTV
notthedougellisstand
yeah id do the same notdougellisstand but im kind of addicted to this. i like speculating who we might sign because it bides the time while we wait for news. i still want de jong despite signing reo coker. lucho gonzales is a link i like. if we did resign vassell which we obviously won't, i would be irretrievably distraught. i have moved to hating the guy cos he has scored more goals against us than he has for us, almost.
ric112
arent we ready for part 7 yet?
Dales_Dad
Marlon Harewood at bodymoor heath today?? hope not
HuntysVilla
Breaking news on SSN is that Marlon Harewood has been spotted at Villa's training ground today!! I feel a bit sick....please let it be a lie!
In MON we trust!
Please not Marlon Harewood.
chris the villan
dear god no!! harewood is a championship standard player! ssn say he is at our training ground! **** off we don't want you! surely not true...surely!
ric112
was a championship player more like league one and struggling, vassell seems a good option all of a sudden
HuntysVilla
People might think Im thick or something but,I don't think this is that bad a signing. He was good in 05-06,a bit of confidence and you never know.I think people need to accept that Defoe is never gonna happen. There's not alot out there. All we need is Vassell now!
Pking
pking your right he had a good season 06, but he aint good in front of goal this really is not good we need to bring in just one quality in form striker
HuntysVilla
The worst thing is that the link on newsnow, says "Villa to make star signing!", it's not April 1st is it? I thought we were signing a star. Unfortunately he is an O'neil type of player, albeit a poor version. Also Sky are carrying the story I think, so it's true.
tarzan
i,m that depressed i'm going back to work
HuntysVilla
he must be mates with Reo?Could turn out to be a bargain.
Pking
Harewood can only be a squad player..! What has happened to the exciting players that we were going to sign to take us on to the next level....?
deemz
"exciting players that we were going to sign to take us on to the next level" won't all be coming this summer it appears! My opinion is that he's a bit of a donkey, but I'm not the manager. As I've said he's an O'neil type of player. What a majestic player to launch the new shirt with (sic)!
tarzan
It would appear that quite a few Villa fans are fickle.
Pking
JESUS. e isn bad but he isn gr8 either jus a gd squad striker and i thought we had that in the youngsters moore and gabby. real shame if we get him. why can newcastle go for big players and not us. all these players are ok but i think we need that ONE to state our intent. SNEIJDER cud be it. gonzalez or riqulme cud be it but at da mo we are lookin at harewood luke young.
GABBY16
'Marvellous' Marlon Harewood a harem scarem attacker of quality. Of course im lying, championship player at best. Gutted. Who next? titus bramble??
villain76
is he supposed to be Carew's back up? I dunno, not sure about this one at all
The Usual Suspect
The transfer window is still open for a while yet.couldn't give a toss about stating our intent with ''big name'' signings, would rather do that on the pitch.Just because a player is foreign or expensive means nothing what do people expect?were still an average team in terms of the rest of the league, one of many with a rich foreign owner. How well the team is managed and how much effort the players put in every day will be a bigger factor in how we do.Not how much we spend or how excitng the ''big name'' is.Just because weve been obsessing since June 1st does not mean were owed anything. It would appear the season is already a failure when it hasn't even started yet, according to some.UTV!
Pking
Bring back the DEFOE option even BELLEND doesnt look so bad now... this is far and away from the star signings i was expecting. Suppose we have to give the kid a chance, but imho not good. Wheres the stars?
villain76
I wonder if Harewood was on MONs list because if so i think he would have been signed well before now when the window openend, this could mean that we have missed out on one or two players that would have been 1st choice.
deemz
It's on the OS now! That's our strikers for next season then. Carew. Harewood, Gabby and Moore.
In MON we trust!
He must be hope for another E mule type of player lets hope is not just falling over winging & inconsistancy.
FatKev
Too right Pking, well said. But we are in a different era now and Villa fans still compare things to the recent past.
tarzan
Thinking this through, it's not too bad. Provides cover for Carew and gives Gabby and Moore options.
tarzan
I doubt HAREWOOD has been on MONs list he's seen an opportunity to gazzump Wigan and bag a backup striker for a relatively cheap 3.7 million, which means we still have large amounts of cash left for a crowd pulling signing. Hurrah! I hope.
villain76
Goalie and RB required ASAP!
tarzan
Good point deemz - he must have tried for other players. This signing will make it harder to get others - who is going to be attracted to us now with NRC and Harewood the best we can do so far??? He better have other ones lined up!!
deano.avfc
haha pking you are a strange one. there is nothing fickle about thinking harewood is ****, for gods sake. its blatant in everything the extra from Alien does. honestly, what is the point in harewood? our young strikers are all better than him! i would have been upset with signing harewood even before MON and Randy came to Villa. i wish it was a dream.
ric112
I can see it now.....harewood lifting the champions league trophy after scoring a hatrick in the final.
tylervilla
Its seems the money is there if the right player is available,Im sure that Harewood was not top of the list but if we were turned down by other players what are you gonna do?its not O Neill's or Lerners fault.Harewood needs to be given a fair chance now.He will provide more muscle for our younger quicker players, seems like common sense.
Pking
Hurrah, MON knew that I wasn't going to post until we signed another player and he has gone out and signed one. Thanks MON, although I was expecting someone a little better than Big M. However, at least we now have cover for Carew. The comments regarding the strikers other than JC, should note that none of the other forwards are big and physical. This is something Harewood cewrtainly is.
notthedougellisstand
Just hope Blue Noses dont sign Sigorney Weaver.
Pking
The headline in the Evening Mail by Bill Howell reads Ville close in on STAR SIGNING..! you are really thinking Sneijder, Defoe or some world star by that headline not Harewood
deemz
Thats wot you all get for moaning about lack of transfers mon goes out bargin hunting! Nah seriously not impressed with him last season but think he scored a hat trick against us previous season may be ok but deff have him as our 4th choice striker guess martin aint going to just throw his cash away.Spuds must have been askin massive amounts for defoe. We just need to concentrate on gettin in luke Young Curtis Davis and a goal keeper and then we will be ready for our european assult.Anyone pre-order their home kit with Harewood on the back?......thought not!
sk1nner80
sk1nner80 no more needs to be said, great points. SWP must be 15m too, plus he don't wanna come.
tarzan
swp sed we wud be he club he'd come to. plus his dad wants him here. shaun DO IT!
GABBY16
we all know that harewood will choose wigan over us. wont he....................
Eaton_thevillafan
Over 2300 posts and it was all worthless !! We didn`t have a clue judging by today, may be some scary signings to come. Gardner / Young / Harewood = suicide ?
ASPINALL
guys cmon. they are better than the players that left and will be squad players. i think at least we are bringing players in and helping out numbers. and harewood has don it for a season. as soon as MON gets his squad goin u can start thinking of the ronaldinho's and quaresmas. jus lets calm down and see how the transfer window pans out yer!
GABBY16
WHam off load 2 strikers and we get Harewood not Tevez. Looking at what some fans have written we should be after and sign with ease Tevez. Not much difference apart from £100k+ a week wage, £20m+ transfer fee, Man U with 80,000+ fans, champions league, guaranteed cup finals. FFS get real.
tarzansbrother
Whats fickle in having an opinion about a potential signing? Are we to be called fickle because some of us don't think this guy is the kind of player to take us forward? If MON whants him that is his right as a manager but it doesn't mean that I have to agree with it. Quite frankly he wasn't good enough for a team that should have been relegated. That to me suggests he is not good enough to provide the competition needed for our squad. Carew should have a smile on his chops. We don't need players who are happy to be squad players.Oh GOD NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
myleftfoot
People that are now criticising the manager and chairman are fickle considering how much Lerner has spent so far,and people who are whinging because Harewood is not cost over 10 mil are fickle. And people who feel they've been let down because they bought a season ticket are fickle.I cant wait till the new shirt is unveiled tomorrow and people feel let down over that aswell.FICKLE!
Pking
come one pking...think of the strikers that have moved around or into the prem this transfer window.....nugent, bellamy, torres, viduka, babel, bent, that guy man city bought. We will have the worst one and we are meant to be on the up, striving for europe. You surely cannot be pleased or proud to think we are signing this guy.
bigdiondubs
on what basis do you say this bigdiondubs Torres,Babel,Bent we were never going to sign in a million years.Nugent people would have complained that we were signing a championship player who only wanted to join Everton,Bellamy-people would have complained that he was on too much money also a possibility that he chose Wham over us,Viduka-people would have moaned that he was too old and not a statement of intent,Bianchi wouldn't have been an established name, very few had ever heard of him before he signed for City. There is also the possibility that all these players rejected Villa.
Pking
Im not fickle i just dont like it!(sorry but someone had to do it)
sk1nner80
Pking - Harewood was widely rejected on the forums when the rumour first appeared, more so than bellamy and nugent. And why cant we go for the big names, if newcastle can get Owen why cant we get the 'big name' players. Have some ambition and stop settling for second/third best for goodness sake man.
bigdiondubs
Pking I'm not fickle - I'm just saying that this player in my opinion is very poor indeed and that he is not the type of player to take us forward. Ian Storey Moore has been combing europe supposedly for talent. Do you believe he hasn't looked at strikers who aren't better than harewood? Come on I would sooner give an untried player a go because at least there is a chance he may be a diamond - Harewood has had his chance and he wasn't good enough to get in a very poor Wham team. FICKLE - take your hand off your plonker for five minutes and take a look around! You Supercilious sob
myleftfoot
at least the table looks good at the minute. . . .were second! Funny how we start off second every year.....not as lucky as Arsenal though they get to start from the top! what are the chances.
bigdiondubs
MON obviously see something in this guy and if anyone can bring it out MON can. I just can't help feeling deflated about the whole summer transfer activity so far. Before u accuse me of being fickle ask yourselves did you expect 7 out 1 in and the potential signing of Harewood? The CEO said exciting signings, did he not? Now I know there is still time but I wish this transfer had been kept quiet. It's just a little disturbing.
myleftfoot
I agree myleftfoot. In my company we spend a lot of time "managing peoples expectations". I would say in this respect the club has (for whatever reasons we may not be aware of) been very very poor at managing the fans expectations. They may still pull some big names out of the hat to make us all feel better (and based on what they have said to date, I do still expect this) - but if they don't....crikey, what a let down. I'm sure MON isn't an idiot, and i'm sure there is some value in having a big guy like Marlon in the squad, but hellfire....definitely not the quality I was expecting. Are we really saying Angel couldn't have done his job much better? For those of you that are saying he's a great 4th choice cover striker - why in that case are WHam flogging him?? I just don't get this one. As some people have said - is this really a strong indication of us pushing to the next level? I really can't see it....
YatesyVillain
Yatesy - you are spot on. Guess we`ll have to just sit and wait,if MON thinks he can do the biz then we have to support that.(just hope there are more irons?? in the fire)sorry about the pun but you know what i mean.
ASPINALL
looks like spuds in for SWP. If there is any truth to this then is it another case of waiting too long?
myleftfoot
Mido 1m / Ghaly 1m - both going to the Blues, wouldn`t that have been better squad options ?
ASPINALL
myleftfoot, it probably aint nothing to do with waiting to long, it looks like swp was hanging out for spurs anyway. defoe dont want to move who i think would have been the better choice anyway. i was initially gutted to be linked with harewood but as a low cost backup for JC its not looking to bad an option this morning, we will see, still loads of time left yet. UTV
HuntysVilla
Say what you want about Harewood - good or bad signing. But the way I see it is he has two options - come to the Villa and sit on the bench only getting a chance when Carew is injured. Or go to Wigan where he will play every game. If the guy is happy not playing and (probably) getting more money - is that the kind of character we want!??! I maybe wrong here and he may want to try and fight for his place. What do you think?? People criticised Parker, SWP, Sidwell etc. when they went to a club to sit on the bench. It may be the same here!
deano.avfc
I think bascially it was plain old shock to most villa fans when his name was mentioned yesterday, it shocked everyone. We expected quality signings and HAREWOOD is shocking. As a squad player? i suppose he may do the job but if MONS bought him i think he'll wanna play him and that must mean one of the youngsters stepping aside. Its all if buts and maybes but definately not what i was expecting. YOUNG next? i can hardly contain my excitement.
villain76
what will today bring???....
bazzah
Sam Allardice at Newcatle has said.. As a manager you've got to put your nose in to many areas to find out what is happening in the world of football and who is becoming available and who is not," said Allardyce ahead of his first game in charge of United at Hartlepool United tonight. "The difficulty for me is that we've had a complete change around, and they don't quite understand that if you don't move quickly you can get lost. "It is a frustration for me but an understandable one for them. "They need to know what is happening, to be cautious, but for me many targets are coming and going now and more and more people are moving actively in the transfer market. And some of the targets which were ours have gone. "But there will be plenty more coming up between now and August but we must move as quick as we can This may suggest that we may well have dragged our heels and missed out on our main targets too. Only time will tell.

Today will bring a new kit and post traumatic harewood signing stress disorder. :-) Looks like SWP is slipping away too. Lets go GONZALEZ! UTV.

fickle whinging sods.
Pking
Anyone who has questioned Harewood is not fickle and I never said that.People who having a go at the board and the manager and are saying they've been let down when a ball hasn't even been kicked yet.Are fickle idiots, and drama queens.
Pking
Pking... are you really O'Dreary?
Hoss The Villain
Getting excited about the press conference at 2pm to show the kits. Come on Villa - lets show off a few new players. God help us if its only Marlon there posing in the new strip!! Why do I get the feeling its going to be a 'HOLY S H I T HOW DID WE GET HIM?????'
deano.avfc
Just imagine - Jussi in the new GK jersey, Barry, Luke Young, Reo-Coker and Wright-Phillips in the home kit and Harewood, Defoe and Sneijder in the away kit. Cant see it but come on!!!
deano.avfc
I must agree with Pking. The "fans" who are moaning about MON and Randy before a ball has even been kicked are fickle. It doesn't matter who we sign, those fans will moan about them. Give the players a chance. Theres nothing wrong with not liking a signing and having an opinion on it but talking about being taken for a ride or led up the garden path are fickle. Every club has them, embarrassing fans.
PBAVFC
Deano thought you'd be interested, a lad on the offical site reckons he "has it on good authority" that there will be a couple of suprises at the kit launch. Fingers crossed its not Ricky Otto and Kevin Francis.
PBAVFC
Don't be so fickle PBAVFC, if it is Ricky Otto and Kevin Francis you should support them :-)
Hoss The Villain
As Ian Stanley-Moore or w.e his name is. Has been abroad looking at players, and we have been liked to quite a few Porto players over the last 2 months i can honestly see Lucho Gonzarlez. I tried signing him on Football manager but it is near enough inposs lol. He would be great! he will score goals be that player that Merson like player we are crying out for. and SWP would be a great buy. Roumer has it he might be goin to spurs but as Ian wright is his Dad and that Ian Wright is a GOONER i cant really see it happening it woul;d be between Us and Newcastle if they are intrested.....! we should be able to get L.Young he would be great and we could get a younger RB next year. We need a goalkeeper, Jussi could do a job for a few years with Sorry as back-up. Another striker should be signed as A top six side needs 5 strikers and we have 4 (asuming we get Harewood) with 2 wingers (Maloney&Young) who can play there and another strong CB (mellberg sort of player) as we also need 5 CBs. Jussi-Young-Mellberg-Laursen-Bouma-SWP-Gonzarlez/Petrov-Barry/Reo-Coker/Gardener-Young-Carew/Harewood-Gabby/New signing/Moore
Newman
I'd have Otto on the back of my home shirt and Francis on the back of my away shirt. Speaking of shirts (see what I did there?) The Evening Mail has unveiled the new shirt already. Link - http://icbirmingham.icnetwork.co.uk/mail/villa/tm_headline=villa-s-new-shirt-makes-its-debut%26method=full%26objectid=19467797%26siteid=50002-name_page.html
PBAVFC
I'm liking the long sleeve vibe may have to purchase that one rather than the short sleeve with 'The Hare' across the back. Retro.
villain76
I can't believe some of the reactions on this site. I agree that the Harewood signing is not the most inspiring. However, he is going to be a good squad player. To the people who are saying they are going to return their season tickets and have been let down, put things in perspective. The club has moved forward massively in the last year and continues to progress. Harewood will prove to be a good backup for John Carew. I am not saying that people haven't got the right to question signings because I think that we should all do this. However, to the Drama Queens saying they are going to return their tickets, go on, do it your not welcome or wanted at VP. If you're going to react so ashamedly you're not wanted as you are not true fans.
notthedougellisstand
pking stop annoying everyone. who has been slating o'neill and lerner? i don't remember reading a single comment like that. all of a sudden people are fickle cos they are upset we are signing harewood!? i don't even think you know what fickle means. do you like the sound of the word? I can't believe you can be happy with signing harewood...unbelievable
ric112
MY mom better buy it me! lol
Newman
Harewood is a replacment for Sutton! Speaking of season tickets, Has eny1 recieved theres yet?
Newman
Na still waiting for mine. Harewood aint that bad, he's not supposed to set our pulses racing, just add a bit of depth. Shame Sutton had to retire.
The Usual Suspect
No Newman not yet
notthedougellisstand
:( i really want mine to come i wanna see what the card is like for the holte! i hope it comes within this week tho as it would be a welcome suprise with all the new stuff happening around the club, New signigns, America trip, new top!
Newman
ric112 is the most fickle of them all : - )
Pking
if that is the official new shirt poster. then there are obviously gonna be no surprises wid signings wearing it cos theyve already released it with current players. *****! whens the away kit comin out? shud be more exciting
GABBY16
Away kit at the same time accoring to official site. Major media event showing both kits apparently. Please let SWP be wearing one!!!
deano.avfc
Harewood has signed! Like it or lump it, he's a villa player now.
The Usual Suspect
Harewood signs!
Its All Over FC
Hes' ours! *punches air*
villain76
SWP To spurs! later in the week. speaking like the deal is done on sky.
villain76
Harewood signs *Punches Comp screen* Joking.. Im happy we have signed him a vey good back-up and squad is now slowly being increased!
Newman
SWP himself is on Sky? why aint it on their website?
The Usual Suspect
I've just posted this on another Villa blog as well, it's worth reading if you have a faint heart: "The fans, everyone, needs to just chill out and relax and let me do the job." Sunderland manager Roy Keane asking fans to be patient as he plans his summer signings.
BobTheBuilder
No Defoe, No SWP....I'm feeling like we need to pull a few out the hat RIGHT now. No jokes about pulling a 'hare'-wood' out the hat either!!!!
koolbill
Oh well, Harewood is a Villa man now, he's got my backing. Lets hope he rams our disappoitment down our throats and scores 20 next season! Not the most exciting arrival but not the worst I guess. Still time for some bigger arrivals, this is just like the present you were allowed to unwrap on christmas eve maybe?!
The Fear
So how long does it take the OS to put the pics off the away kit on? Like the look of the home one
sk1nner80
Marlon Harwood Vs Fernando Torres first game ofthe season.
sk1nner80
I wanna gaze upon the 1982esque away kit, someone pull a finger out, or an image. Unless the away kit is being held back for an unveiling of yet more players?...
villain76
All the kits are on the official site. I'm a big fan of the away and how smart does the home one look!!! Link - http://www.avfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/HeadlinesDetail/0,,10265~1074481,00.html
PBAVFC
up now looks good but wanna see it a bit closer up.Really liking the home kit.Come on mon keep the ball rollin we have replaced McCann and Sutton with Reo and Marlon.Still need to cover for Davis and Hughes and then bring in players to add depth. So thats a mid,RB and then who?Do we accept mon is going to give Delany a chance to prove himself or is he just covering his back incase he cant get in who he really wants ala Harewood? Not worried or fickle just want to know whos next!!!!!!!!
sk1nner80
haha i love u really pking, i hope you know. it is our differences that bring us closer together!
ric112
i love harewood too. he really is a beautiful man...ahem
ric112
the more think about it the more im liking the idea of harewood not jus as a sub. but i think he can do the business jus aswell as bent or defoe at the to of his game plus if we jus sumtimes bang him and carew up front that is BIG! jus the thing we are missing as we are quite smal. i think we are done for strikers with these big 2 men and then gabbi luke and shaun the little men will see how it goes.
GABBY16
i think now concentrate on plugging the holes at the back aka RB and CB and the GK that we av been lokin for and then spen august gettin that thing we need. THE NAME! sneijder, riguelme gonzalez and actually i think we will be set. im already liking the shape. not all bout players dnt forget we got sumfin other teams haven MON. kit looks well gd im liking home and away is something in diferent in a v.good way!
GABBY16
3 players in a week for man city. They sure aint hanging around.Stil think thereis room for another striker to come in but its not a priority now compared to our squad numbers.Need to beef up the team a bit now.Do youthink if Luke young was Mon's first name on his list for RB he would be signed by now? The pre season tour leaves soon will mon be givin a chance to talk to SWPout there maybe?
sk1nner80
How could I stay away with our new signing, this is the 1st time I've ever sat back and thought about things, I normally just mouth off, but after the initial shock, I thought this ain't that bad a buy. Reason 1. I've always said I would prefer a player who wants to play for us (Harewood) than a player who just comes to us because no one else wants them (Defoe). Reason 2. For 3.7 mill, we could have done alot worse (5 mill chopra) Reason 3. all I've heard on this site is MON's man management skills, well if that's the case he should do well with a lad who's 27 and still wants to learn. and reason 4. Sit back for 24 hrs like I did then think Reo Coker & Marlon Harewood, then think Bolton fans, McCann & samuel, then you realise we ain't done that bad, I'm also a bolton lad born 'n' bred, and people say why Villa!, I think my point's just been proven (sorry Dad)
eltoro
Eltoro - picked your thrown teddy up and you're back. Aug 12th was a long way a way 8-) Good post.
Gazvilla
Thanks Gazvilla
eltoro
Collymore,Angel,Balaban,Baros were all big signings that arguably didn`t live upto expectation, maybe Marlon will exceed them.
ASPINALL
Welcome back Etoro! Nice post. The prices are stupid. 20m for Crouch for example. We want players who want to join us. The delay in the NRC siging was down to West Spam trying to shaft him royally, they pulled his loyalty bonus at the last minute (after he helped keep them up) and suffered horrific racial abuse.
tarzan
Angel was good example of an over priced player.
tarzan
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=RrK9u9b8jio ...Harewood scores spectacular goal worthy of a goal of the month award.
villa96
im so impressed with our new signing im back on news now to see if there is anymore on the way. And before the 'get real' and the 'were not in europe' squad get me ....STOP.....im just joking. He will be a great bench warmer, a big guy who can really get that seat warm..this well help minimise the risk of injury to guy the guy coming off the pitch. Injuries can really wreck a season so this could be money well spent. Disclaimer: Im just joking, apologies for showing any sort of negativity, everything is still good, dream still alive.
bigdiondubs
Angel's loyalty was the thing that I loved about him Tarzan, he was a long way from home, and stuck with us (I know we stuck by him to) but your right, he never was worth 9.6 mill, pity really as he was always likeable,
eltoro
Felt depressed for 24hrs. Then actually took the time to have a look at the guy. His Premiership goals per game ratio is better than Carew, Maloney, Gabby, Luke and Ashley. At 3.7m and as the only player in the squad resembling anything like a similar player to Big John, this might turm out to be more astute than some think. Keep the faith. UTV.
PENFOLD17
i just watched his interview on sky sports news, i take it all back. He doesnt sound like he would harm a fly ......aaaah. Come on lets get behind him.
bigdiondubs
I love you too ric112,Harewood reminds me of the baddies in the Super Mario Brothers film.Who's next?
Pking
its no coincidence that Marlon rhymes with Big John...song anyone?
bigdiondubs
Boyz, Defoe batted us so we went to plan B, so what he would have cost 10m more!
tarzan
Cut the fascination with Defoe. Greedy little git don't pass, don't play that often either. I don't want to see Gabby or Luke stifled. Seems MON can't win. Sells Davis - "why, what a prospect". Keep the young strikers - "why aren't we in for Defoe, Bellend, Nugent" etc etc. What exactly do you want?
PENFOLD17
Harewood deserves the support of all Villa Fans as a villan. I hope he turns out to be the most astute buy of the season but I'm still waiting for an exciting signing. Having said this, I'd rather have a star team than team with stars in it. Team spirit is what gats results not egos. UTV
myleftfoot
Voice of sanity MYLEFTFOOT. Let's not forget, interviewed again today, MON stated he expected FIVE signings and so far there's only TWO. No need to worry yet methinks !!
PENFOLD17
Have to wonder about the lack of news on Luke Young. He wants out and Charlton have suggested a reasonable fee. So why no news? Tarzans bro suggested it was a done deal this week. But its a little quiet. (puts hand to ear). Anything anyone?????
Gazvilla
Notice Newcastle are linked to a 11 mill CB. The next best thing in Italy. Now they are exciting links.
Gazvilla
I fully expect Luke Young to be the next one in, unless MON springs another surprise
notthedougellisstand
Thing about 'arewood is he reminds me of the time Saunders signed David Geddes - remember him - as a first team striker - quite useless - however coming of the bench or cover for Withe was quite useful. So tactically I am warming to the idea. Lets wait and see.
myleftfoot
Post number 400, ave that boys. Eeerrrr, come the cup runs it'll be useful to have him as he'll give our star players a rest....
koolbill
Just saw something about Villa backing away from a deal to sign Luke Young so he's going to 'Boro instead (The Sun I think). Mmmm....... what's going on there then?
Jon.H
Paper talk...Sunderland will bid 9mill for craig gordon!? Keanos going a bit mad with the cash i feel. Chelsea don't wanna sell SWP to spurs as kenyon sees spuds as title contenders (good villa news?) Middlesvilla and man citeh in for young (no mention of villa, bad villa news?) and mido to blues 5 mill, now if he joined us that would have been a hefty front line, but questions on his temperament liked to moan alot so they can have him. Marvellous Marlon for england! so says MON. UTV
villain76
Why is it that I get shocked by the Villa and am disappointed but the next day I quite like what they are doing. The new badge - horrible, preview of kit on various forums - horrible, signing of Reo-Coker for £7.5m - nightmare, Harewood - crap. But after each of these, the next day I think they are great moves!!! New badge and shirts look quality, Reo-Coker will marshall the midfield well with Barry and/or Petrov and Harewood offers something different than the small, nippy forwards (Maloney, Moore, Young and Gabby) and will certainly score goals and power through defences. I am just worried by reports this morning that Luke Young is going to Boro because we have backed out of the move. HOWEVER, if MON states a RB is priority and he DOESNT move for Young - who have we got lined up??? deJong, Drenthe??? Hmmm.
deano.avfc
Jesus MYLEFTFOOT David Geddes, you are making me feel old now, I can still see those blond locks now, ah good times them!
eltoro
its the villa void, we're here but no one can see us...
villain76
i have seen in quite a few places that mon was out of the country on friday when he heard about harewoods availability. where was he? who was he talking to?
Stig
Sunderland to pay 9m for Craig Gordon!
tarzan
Has this thread run out we need an update too!
