So Who Will Villa Sign? Part 6

So Who Will Villa Sign? Part 6

The sixth instalment of our summer long gossip column!

We've already had nearly 3 million (ahem) rumours, arguments and links!

So Who Will Villa Sign Pt 5 - Click Here

I must admit I'd hoped we'd have been talking about the great signings we've made by now, instead we are still getting the manager saying they are working hard to bring in new players. Oh well, there is always tomorrow, or the day after I guess! At least we know there is money there to spend once players can be attracted, just got to hope that the fact we aren't in Europe this coming season isn't proving to be a major block on big name arrivals. We need at least one big name to put down a marker for the season surely?

Anyway, here continues the rumours thread on the front page. See a story linking us with a player? Share it with us all. Heard a tenuous link, or seen a player around Villa Park? Let us know! Oh, and although I'll do my best to announce incoming players as soon as possible, if you hear of a signing before I do, wang it on this thread as well.

The January thread ended up with nearly 2000 article comments, spaced over several articles (the limit per article is now 400 after I got it raised, anymore than that and it slows things down too much so I'll change the threads over each time we hit the limit!)

So Far.

Out:

Jlloyd Samuel
Gavin McCann
Lee Hendrie
Robert Olejnik
Stephen Henderson
Aaron Hughes

In:

Nigel Reo-Coker from West Ham £8.5m.
Marlon Harewood, from West Ham

Disappointing summer so far. I believe we all felt we would have signed at least three players of note. However, still 5 weeks before start of season so hopefully things will begin to move

When do they leave for America? Surely he will want most of his signings on board by then? I still reckon the following will arrive before the window closes....Craig Gordon, Luke Young, Curtis Davis (Ridge going in the opposite direction + money) Phillip Lahm, Sneijder, and Alan Smith! That will then cover every position with great competition. Starting 11. Gordon, Young, Mellberg, Laursen, Lahm, Young, Reo-Coker, Sneijder, Barry, Smith, Gabby!

The Avfc blog site has delusions of grandeur and are saying they are the biggest Villa site around town. I think fear should settle it with an arm wrestle.....

Interesting interview with Mark Hughes on North West TV. He was saying that the big boys sort themselves out first, then the rest can sort themselves out after that. Guess we are still part of 'the rest' until we can offer European football.

The quotes not long back did say he wanted them in before pre-season training started (start of July) so that is one deadline missed. As The General said in his thread in the forum, the window doesn't close until Aug, so no panic but it would be nice to see faces arriving early!

lol villan444. I'll leave them to it, never been one to worry about who is the biggest, I always find the alexa stats to vary wildly depending on whether you have a few people who use your site who have an alexa toolbar downlooaded. It is difficult to compare us with any others as we are lumped into the network anyway. I'm happy at the size of this one, million page impressions (the hits stat is a useless stat but would be 10-15 times that), 65 000 odd unique users, seems pretty good to me!

I'd be bitterly disappointed if we had to wait until 31 Aug b4 completing our transfers. We're were promised exciting signings. For me this hasn't happened as yet. Still time, I know. Maybe we were waiting for Malouda to sign for Chelsea b4 going in for SWP. The trouble is, there is no information available from the the club (denials are required on potential targets). The longer it takes to sign players the trickier it gets to settle the players into a system b4 the season starts. It's very frustrating

lol to be fair i'd never have heard of avfcblog if it wasnt for newsnow. Anyways, myleftfoot, totally agree with you, the excitement has certainly died down, i'm sure MON would've preferred more signings by now, just the way it's going at the moment with a few clubs. However, if he could pull off a flurry of signings in quick succession i think everyone would be full of enthusiasm again.

It'll be a good week if we can wrap up the signing of Luke Young from Charlton. I like the guy, and rate him as a very good right full back, something we haven't enjoyed at Villa Park in a long, long while. Hope that MON does have a few quality players focused in his radar, because right now, I still believe we are way short of where we really need to be. Not trying to be negative, just realistic.
