No Villa Deal For Reo-Coker Yet

Tony Finnegan, the agent of West Ham United`s Nigel Reo-Coker has denied that his client has already had a medical with Aston Villa, and that no formal deal has been agreed as of yet.

Rumours built up over the weekend that Reo-Coker, who is all but certain to leave The Hammers this summer had been at Villa`s brand new Bodymoor Heath Training Ground over the weekend, and that the player would be unveiled at some point this week. It now appears however this isn`t the case and the two clubs are still trying to trash out a fee for the midfield man.

Speaking to BBC London radio, Finnegan said: 'Where we are at now is that we are waiting for the two clubs to agree a price.

There has been no medical. The lad has been waiting to go on holiday.'

He added: 'We thought there may have been a deal last week. Everybody knows Villa are interested in the lad. We're just waiting to get the agreement between the two clubs."

Villa are believed to have offered around the 7million mark, with Alan Curbishley seemingly reluctant to let the player leave for anything less than 10million.

Much much more worried about the Harewood story which is also not going away. ( Maybe Curbs is insisting that we can't have Reo unless we take him aswell!!)

Could be the agent is talking because the deal is stalling and he wont make any money. Surely the price wont be an Issue for Villa, Young bought for around a 10 million pound fee I cant see 11 million for the Under 21 Captain.

I am a bit annoyed by this - if we go to 8m that suggests he is worth twice as much as Steve Davis. Thats not on - in fact it suggests he is worth Hughes, Davis, McCann, Ridgewell and 500k. That is not good business. Why oh why didnt we just throw 20m+ at Ajax for Sneijder and Babel and then let Martin sweet talk them. I was SO positive until today and I agree with Christo - pre-season is tomorrow. Even if we sign 8 top class players (and Im sure we will get some) - they SHOULD all be in during pre-season to get settled in. We need to hit the ground running this year and could do with the players now.

frustrating - i thought we were going to go out and make a statement of our ambition from the off. I dont see the benefit of waiting longer as early buys increase ticket and merchandise sales + it helps to attract other signings who can see your ambition. Im open to ideas why we are waiting for the other clubs to snap up their targets first?

This seems to be standard statement that he's been told to trot out if asked. Geremi would have been an excellent buy, top 4 cast off though - they always fail to live up to anything.

I think the fact that Geremi previously lived in the northeast is what swung that in Newcastles favour.

He's coming, of that there can surely be little doubt? I think that one thing is pretty clear all throughout this long drawn out saga, that here we have a player who wants to move to VP, and has done so since day one.

Good aggressive player but he isn't the biggest and I am getting worried about more rumours of Wright-Philips (quality) and Defoe (toilet) are surrounding us in an all out spending frenzy but they are both midgets and other than our 2 centre backs and Carew, we will be known as the oompa-loompas before long and suffer at set peices for another year.

I wouldnt mind having loads of smaller palyers if we play quick attractive one touch football. Who needs to rely on set pieces if you can tear teams apart with pace and passing

Very funny Villan444, bring back Alan Wright! The Defoe (toilet) argument is ridiculous he scored more goals than all our strikers put togther last season! We have no natural finisher in the team. In terms of NRC, I am chuffed to bits we've got him. He wants to join us, has a great personality and is a brilliant player - you mark my words. He's in a different league to Maccan, Hendrie etc.

"Last season, some supporters and critics blamed Reo-Coker for the Hammers' slump." Sour grapes if you ask me. He played in all the games in the run in. My Hammers fan mates reckon he's a great player, but it was time for a move for him. We find that difficult to accept here compared to on the continent.

RE: Defoe, He can't take players on and he is one of the greediest players in the prem and so will shoot from anywhere rather than pass to a better positioned teammate, and I know that as a striker you have got to be greedy but is he a team player? it always seems to be about him and he always talks about himself and not the team. Also he has had the quality of Keane and Berbatov to supply him. Playing next to these two would make Bosko Balaban look good.

The silence is deafening from the club. Judging by the way they have gone about their business so far I would say that there is a very good reason for this. We can see from the messages who are the people with confidence and those without. I wouldn't mind playing poker with all those showing the nervous twitches. Hold firm, no flinching and it will all happen in the way that we had only previously dreamed. I hope!

Beware of Reo-Choker's agent, he's bent as u like. Cant believe theyre stumbling over the fee tho, if Young is worth 9.65m after one season in the prem, then Choker must be at least on a par with him. Good player, bad attitude.

If I may offer another opinion, I suggest that NRC is so desperate to leave WHU, he'll go anywhere and that he's no more likely to win anything at AV than WH ? That's cos I think the next season or two for AV an WH are in a sense, transitional.

I think you are right about us being in transition, but there's no patience in football nowadays. It's even more highlighted with the top 4 winning everything domestically. But I disagree about him wanting to go anywhere, he's had the choice of any team outside the top 4 I reckon (with the exception of Spurs) and he wants to join us.

I'm fed up with all of this. I would like Reo-Coker to join but this is just taking far too long. Either sign him or don't but don't let things drag on and on. This is exactly the same as the Ashley Young transfer. We didn't put anything concrete in for him until West Ham had an offer accepted. If we're not careful he will end up going to Man City because they will soon have money to burn when their crook (sorry new Chairman) takes over.
