Davis - How Much Am I Worth?

The Birmingham Evening Mail had a report yesterday suggesting Northern Ireland midfielder Steven Davis has held talks with Martin O'Neill and wants to know what their valuation of him is.

O'Neill has been at pains to say that players such as Davis aren't on the transfer list but that he wouldn't stand in the way of any player who wanted to leave.

According to the Mail Fulham, Reading, Manchester City and Middlesbrough are all interested in Davis. Manchester United were strongly linked last summer after Davis enjoyed a virtual ever present season under the managerialship of David O'Leary, however the season just gone was a far cry with injury and lack of form hampering his first team chances.

Maybe this is just paper talk but the rumours have been around for a while with Davis apparently wanting to play centrally and O'Neill preferring him to be out wide. I guess if Davis see's players like Craig Gardner push in front of him in the pecking order and new players like Nigel Reo-Coker possibly arriving, he might well want to move to 'guarantee' first team football. Maybe he is a great prospect and we should keep him, or maybe on some of his performances of last season, he isn't quite as hot as we all thought?

Would love to see him go out on loan for a season before allowing him to leave permanently, would be awful to see a future gem do well for another club but if he doesn't prove himself too tasty on loan, then no real loss?

Talking about Nigel Reo-Coker, reports today suggest that we might have competition for his signature from Manchester City who have a brand spanking new owner Thaksin Shinawatra. Another big club in waiting with another big monied owner. Football really is going to become even more a rich mans playground isn't it?

I reckon NRC will come to Villa, he is team mates with our England U21's like Gary Cahill, Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor(when he picks up the phone!). There, that's convinced me at least, watch this space, he'll sign this week.

Can't blame the player for wanting to know. Bet his agent will be busy!

keep him, play him. He's quality.

Year long loan, then see how he does suits him and the club, on last years form he will struggle to get a starting role. That said with some of the fees being talked about maybe £6M might be worth looking at. He isn't going to play centrally with Petrov, NRC (Possibly), Gardner, Barry played there quite well last season, Osbourne even
fatloser
I reckon he is worth about £4mil now, but will be worth £10mill in a year or two. Keep him or send him on loan.

He has to be similar value to NRC surely ?
ASPINALL
Would be the most sensible option all round to let him develop on a year long loan if he's not going to get the match practice at VP. Definitely would be sad to see him not fulfil that enormous potential.

I get the feeling MON just does not rate him. How many times do you see someone have a blinding 1st season then vanish into obscurity? I have said before that this may come back to bite us in the bum, but at the moment £5-6m sounds like a good price to me.

Definitely looks as if his Villa Park days are numbered. He seems unwilling to stay and fight for a return to first team action which is disappointing, but obviously we are not aware of all the facts and the complete story. Maybe things all happened a little too quickly for him? He certainly made the breakthrough into the starting line up with a resounding bang, looking very impressive, a young man with a very mature head on his shoulders. But following on from those early heady days, its true to say that he has struggled to impress, with opportunities being few and far between. He may well be about to find out though that the grass isn't always greener.

Middlesvilla with £3m interest reported in three sunday red tops

I guess we shouldn't be too surprised at that fatloser. The time to be surprised will be when the Villa wanna-be's from teeside aren't interested in one of our lads. It does get a bit old though.

Surely we don't want to be letting anymore players go? Do we need £6m to be buy new players? No. Our owner OWNS MBNA credit cards for god sake. We DO NOT NEED THE MONEY. We should not be letting players of Davis' calibre go. Loan? Yes maybe. Sell for good? Certainly not. If he feels he can get regular first team football elsewhere then fine, let him go out on loan.
