Aston Villa To Miss Out On Target?

According to John Jaakke, chairman of Dutch club Ajax, Villa and Spurs target (according to the press anyway) Wesley Sneijder is going nowhere.

The 23-year-old Dutch international has had talks with the player and said on RTV Noord-Holland:

'As things look now, Sneijder stays with Ajax. The contact that we have had with him points towards him staying in Amsterdam. We will do everything we can to make that happen.'

I think we both have...shame...
its quiet at the lib
It is a shame but can't say i'm surprised, he has Champions League football at Ajax, unless they are trying to spark an auction for him.
Thegreatdando
yup, without the lure of champions league, it is difficult to see him moving, sorry to say even more difficult seeing him move to Villa without the lure of even the Uefa. Shame, good player, maybe next year!
The Fear
Yup. He'd probably of gone to spurs anyhow, being a london club an all. Can't they see how great the bullring and kebab shops are in brum!
Cubos
LMAO, as if you really had a chance at Sneijder! Hes far too good for the likes of Villa, hes a top 4 player guys!
BomBom
lol, sod off Cubos!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell you what, for those that haven't been to Brum of late, the old stereotypes really don't fit anymore, although I seldom got to the second city these days, I'm very impressed with the way the area has re-invented itself. I do think European footie is the key though, next season we'll have a good stab I'm sure.
The Fear
A stab at something!... in Birmingham! Now that's a surprise :P If the guy wants to move from Ajax, he'll end up moving. Like he said, if you want to leave Ajax these days you need to kick up a fuss. I dont think its over yet. COYS

I think if MON could arrange for me to take Sneijder's wife out shopping we could swing it.
Cubos
doesnt sound over 2 me either, think the ajax chairman is just being optimistic about keeping him. UTV

Take no notice of the what the club says, listen instead to the agent, no club wants a player on the field that doe's not want to be there, remember Alpay wanted to go, walked around with a sulk but on this occasion Villa stuck him in the stiffs and got nothing for him. Ajax wont be so happy to lose out on a million pound windfall.

The Dutch league is only a bit better than the SPL - Sneijder may come to the EPL but he may find the pace of our game too hot to handle. Why aren't any of the 'top 4' making any noises about him??
myleftfoot
I agree,we should be able to pick out players from this league with the wages we can pay rather than get screwed on price ( aaah, why did Nilis break his leg ) he would have been class at Villa.
ASPINALL
Dutch Players easily adapt to the EPL....I WANT HIM NOW!!
TuBBz
i cant say i'm too surprised that wes wont be here come next season. i think our link with him is a season too soon. maybe next summer when were in the champions league. its always gonna be tough to prize the world class players away to play domestic football. i beleive its not just about money. These guys are already millionaires. they want champions league to ply there trade. so i guess we may need to be a patient for at least 1 more season.

Speculation, rumours, denials and counter denials. I'll get excited when players put pen to paper, until then nothing is worth getting too concerned about, whether the name being tossed about is Wesley Sneijder or Joe Blow.
