Tis the end of the season - you might well have noticed, what with the league being won, the fixtures ending and the players packing their bags to go on their holidays.

So here comes the speculation and rumour season, with loads of players about to be linked to Aston Villa and hopefully a good few actually coming to Villa Park in time for the 2007/2008 season.

So back, by popular demand, is the rumours thread on the front page. See a story linking us with a player? Share it with us all. Heard a tenuous link, or seen a player around Villa Park? Let us know! Oh, and although I'll do my best to announce incoming players as soon as possible, if you hear of a signing before I do, wang it on this thread as well.

The January thread ended up with nearly 2000 article comments, spaced over several articles (the limit per article is 350, anymore than that and it slows things down too much so I'll change the threads over each time we hit the limit!)

Are we to believe WHU when they say no bid has been made for NRC or are they just stalling so other clubs can bid and the price goes up..? (especially if he has a good tounament) this would be strange when you look at the amount of money they have been throwing around especially on wages..! so maybe MON is going all out for Sneijder..!

At this stage, I reckon we're looking at 5 players coming in. I know certain players have already been released that is leading people to believe we may be signing more, but we haven't let anybody go we'll be uncomfortable being without and for me, the rest of the summer is now about quality rather than quantity. As such, we're looking at a goalkeeper (most likely Craig Gordon), a right back (most likely Luke Young), two midfielders (Nigel Reo-Coker and one other - possibly Wesley Sneijder) and a striker (most likely Craig Bellamy or Jermaine Defoe). I think most people would be pretty happy with that scenario.

Chalky, do you get joy out of annoying people? It seems to be the same on Vital Spurs. All you talk about half the time is Defoe, yet he has still scored 18 goals this season being third choice striker. Don't be such a pessimist.

How reliable is your friend Gazvilla? Do you think it would be a good buy for Villa? And for how much money? According to someone on Vital Spurs it says on Wikipedia that Sneijder was spotted in a Hilton hotel with Daniel Levy (Spurs chairman)!!! Was probably talking a load of s*** but i really hope that it is true. Even if Sneijder don't end up at Spurs i would like to see him come to the Premiership, we want all the best players in the World playing in England.

I DON'T want Bellamy, I want Luke Moore alongside Carew. IDON'T want Reo Coker , I want Craig Gardner in the team, he is class. I DO want a tight squad with competition for places but no big money signings that have to be played just because we've spent big - when they are not as good as our youngsters. Too much rubbish is spoken about not bringing youngsters on too soon, but Moore and Gardner are good enough now. Arsenal, Man Utd etc don't leave out their youth if they are good enough. If Luke Moore is not considered god enough now at 21 or whatever he is then he never will be good enough. Give him a long run. All the best teams win things by playing with a consistent team. Without Euro football we cannot keep too many top quality players happy on the bench. Disruption and grumples will do no good. Thus yes please Craig Gordon, a right back and one top class midfielder if we can get one - and that will be enoughi n my mind for MON to take us into Europe. Buy more than we need and we will miss out.

Sneijder is going to either barca or madrid - There are so many dutch connections at both clubs and perhaps 2 of the biggest if not the best clubs in the world. If Sneijder is such a fantastic player then why aren't other clubs queing up for him? As MON would say TOSH! and a load of it too. Just wish we'd hurry up and sign someone because the squad size is shrinking.

Not keen on Defoe and was glad keane re-signed for spurs. I think theres plenty of time for MON to pull some surprises out the hat ala when Carew arrived. Mertzecker or Alves would be a nice start though with a Sneijder topping...

Nothing is certain in this world but I'm maintaining the faith that we will end up with a bigger squad at the start of the season than at the end of the previous one. Keanne was just paper talk and the same goes for Defoe. I would have thought Nugent as cover for Carew would be worth a gamble?? I don't see the point in signing Bellemy as we have Gabby who I believe is faster and has 20 goals in him. Then there is Moore and with the right service could also have 20 golas in him. Just hope we start signing players soon.

Let`s be honest Carew,Gabby,Luke,Maloney and Sutton if fit would cover forward area through a season,if Sutton retires then i can see us going for a similar type (Mido/Beattie etc) We also have a reserve/youth system which we can call upon,if we get Reo-Coker and a right-back of top-quality then i`d be fairly confident of decent season.

We've let 5 players go already with probably more to follow. MON said he doesnt want to be in the same situation as last season with a small squad. I reckon we will sign about 8-10 players this summer. Some will be quality (hopefully!) others willl be decent squad players (better than mccann etc) to act as cover.

i think he'll be a good buy. i heard that hamburg want 2 million for him and he's only 22. On the official villa website NRC is talking about young and cahill and saying how good they are. I've got a feeling that the deal could be done.

Except you won most of the honours in the 19th/start of the 20th century...!!I think barring a golden 2 year period in the early 80"s Villa have done precious little & have been operating in the second & third division for long periods which both Tottenham & Everton certainly havent been.However i would class Villa as a big club simply because they get healthy crowds.Tottenham though have far more style & class & are one of 2 or 3 others that are known for their brand of football.Thats what makes THFC after all & sets them apart from the Villa"s.Its not the massive haul of trophys or records that Spurs set/broke that makes us,its HOW we achieved them..!!

Bluedose, got to admit we are as big as them all. We have massively underachieved. Chalky, fair play to playing some attractive football over the last couple of seasons but up until Jol arrived your football was horrible, see George Graham and that mad Nordic bloke with the train ticket for reference. However, you are on a march now and we are in your slipstream. Don't care about stats, care about Villa regaining pride - the rest will follow. p.s. bluedose i would agree that Toon, spurs and everton are are of similar stature to Villa.However everton are a relic from the 80s and unable to attract top players. Man city have never been a truly big club;the only thing big about man city is Man Utd if you get my point. I would put them in the same category as Sheff. Wed and Sunderland. Leeds when a premiership outfit would also be on a par with us.

On skysports.com rumours and links page a Villa fan from Solihull has said that we will be announcing a record £10.5m signing in David Trezeguet!!! That would need to be seen to be believed. Hard to stop my mind from wandering and thinking of how good that would be!!! Still a few years of that kind of capture yet!! Anyways, I think we wont see the new AVFC kits until July. As far as I know Hummel and 32red.co.uk are our sponsors until 1st July and we cant show kits until then. The likes of Newcastle and Spurs can show their new strips (and play in them on final day) as manufacturers and sponsers are the same next season. On that point are 32red.co.uk still our sponsors, are we getting a new one or are Nike also going to sponsor us similar to how Bolton (Reebok) and Wigan (JJB) have the same sponsor and manufacturer?? I dont think Nike do that at any other club!

Deano, great post! These are the"off the wall" rumours we should be posting (certainly better than Bellamy). Most of the stuff is using obvious links (i.e. Celetic )and old stories re-hashed (i.e. Bellamy). Have you seen the picture of the new kit going round the interweb? It's quite curvy and camp, not what I expected. I heard Cadburys might be our new sponsor.

I find it hard to believe the hiome kit will be released after the pre-season tour of America, and the away kit will be released after the season starts???? More importantly FA rules insist each club has to have two kits (home and away) registered before the start of each season. Those dates sound way off Tarzan, and they will want them on the shelves before the new season so people actually buy them, comercially it makes no sense to leave it until days before the new season as demand will be through the roof aswell.

The hummel contract still had 12 months remaining and was terminated. I think the 32red contract still has another 12 months remaining but maybe the board are looking at terminating this too? The CEO indicated that we are looking to attract world class partners to the club, and that new advertising hoardings are to be installed close season. Fitzgerald recently also went on a networking trip to Dubai. The new sponsors (if we terminate) 32red, are rumoured to be one of either Emarites, Cathy Pacific or Singapore Airlines. Hopefully it'll be as big as the Nike coup and an announcement made early during this transfer window - this will only help in the current climate!

Well its a change from the tears of Maloney and Petrov moving to a 'big club' - it says something that Tommy Burns says Maloney should have stayed at Celtic to develop. Translated that means he is young so should stay as a small club until he learns his trade then make the step up. Maloney and Petrov have both been players of the year at Celtic and there are many Villa fans (including me) who wouldnt even put them in the squad of 16, let alone starting XI, let alone player of the year!!! You have went against your own point there. The 6 or 7 players of SOME quality at Celtic moved to EPL and did well. BUT they moved on!!! The only one who stayed for his 'peak' was Larsson but he never had the bottle for a 'big league' and is the only exception! None of them were ever best players in the league at all!!! If Villa were in a position where we were happy signing a player from under the noses of 'giants' such as Middlesbrough and other Championship sides I would be a bit embarrased. Well there you go Scott Brown - massive signing! Difference between u and us this summer is that NR-C is only the first of many. Honestly if any manager was given all Villa and Celtic players not a single Celtic player would get into the XI.

We sold our ex-England midfielder (McCann) who was about 7th choice centre-midfielder and couldnt get a game for £1m to UEFA cup qualifiers Bolton. In "The Old Days" - before the revolution, rumours used to fly out of Villa Park with monotonous regularity concerning who was going to be signed, who had been seen with who and where the manager was going to view a player. I think this has stopped now, a tighter more disciplined crew are at the helm of our ship so any rumours that surface, I tend to treat with a pinch of salt. Yes, I'd like to see Sniejder at Villa Park next season, but there are so many conflicting reports about him I think a lot of the papers are being fed by his agent - as with a lot of other available players out there. Exciting times, lots of speculation - I'm just going to wait and see.

Name one Celtic player who could be sold on for £5m plus??? With the Villa you are talking - Bouma, Barry, Mellberg, Davis, Young, Agbonlahor, Carew, Moore and Cahill at least!!! Plus with the big signings on their way......!!! Any striker worth their salt could score bucketloads in the SPL - Sutton, Hartson, van Hoojidonk and even Larsson were hardly prolific in the EPL after being worshipped by your fans. Only Viduka was/is and he left you ages ago!!! Imagine the damage Carew and Agbonlahor could do against the likes of Inverness and Aberdeen!!! OK, how about this - take out the top 4 teams from the EPL, and the top 2 from the SPL. Put the remaining teams in a league and what would happen? The majority of the top teams would be from the EPL. Perhaps Hearts would offer some competition, but even Wigan could beat the rest of a bad bunch. Hence there is greater competition every week in the EPL and good players want to experience this rather than a Sunday League game every week.

Harry Kewell seems to be a strong rumor but he is London bound - his missus signed a deal with a London TV company so thats not happening (thankfully) but I would be surprised if a left-winger wasnt in MON's thoughts. A 25 year old Berger would have been nice!! Maybe next year he will go with Barry out there and have a youngster (Steilber!!) learn of him and Berger for next year. Have to admit I'm with Pking on this one. I definately wouldn't go for Bellamy as we need to give Gabby a run up front with Carew. Thought Maloney had been bought for left side of midfield? I think we definately need a right back, a new keeper and central midfield and for the latter I would be happy for NRC at a decent price. Still think we should get Boaz back between the posts, not sure who to suggest for r.b though. I would love MON to back up what we already have, strengthen as above, have a good season finishing higher up the league, EUFA cup would be great, then look for top tier signings next summer.

RB suggestion has to be Phil Jagielka or Luke Young (who have both been linked). Another I would like to see is quite controversial and may split opinions but I think he is decent - Wes Brown. I went to see Man Utd 3 times last year (as a neutral with friends when in Manchester) he played in two of the games and I thought he was excellent. I havent seen enough of him in recent seasons but I had understood he was playing very well until Vidic came in and was great. I have heard gossip linking him with a £6m move to Everton. Cant be bad at that price and versatile enough to play CB!!

We finished last season very well, so I'm not sure we need all this major surgery, just some additionals to the core. If the Celtic thread (which I've just been on and is excellent apart from the rubbish) is being spoilt then the editor knows how to moderate the comments and to lay down the rules. I cannot read every site. Editors, as per the network rule, are responsible for their sites, that is just the way it is.

Skoosh, how the network is run, and what editors agree to do isn't really up for discussion. The editor is a great chap, superb work in the site and he runs the site as he see's fit. On the flip side I edited on another site today and the editor then wanted to know why it had been edited. It is down to the individual editor to moderate their site, it is in the agreement they sign when they take sites on. It really isn't up for discussion on this thread, as said, if you want to email me and cc the Celtic editor in at the same time. I don't need to get a grip, this is how Vital is run and how other networks are run.

If the rumour is true and we have been tracking Drenthe for a while, why the hell didn't we tie up the deal before the u21 tournament started?? He has been by far the best player in the tournament (young excluded!) which will now alert more and more clubs, resulting in his fee increasing! We will then struggle to get him, as he will probably choose a club playing in Europe. If its true, I think it's a very poor piece of scouting and management. I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong though, as this boy is pure class!

I reckon Young will be a right-winger for us. Gabby needs to go up front. Having Moore, Gabby and Carew up front with Alan Smith (who offers something different) and Maloney if needs be gives up plenty of back-up. A left winger is needed - even if Barry plays out there.

I was thinking a little more about my above post and the lack of decent left-wingers. Pedersen is unrealistic. So I think we will be taking a risk on a player - how about Albert Luque??? A player who was worth £15m+ a few years ago, hasnt really been given a chance in England but could be available for less than £3m and he COULD be great!!! Bent has scored the goals so has Defoe but in a far superior team and mainly thanks to the brilliance of Berbatov and while admittedly Luke Moore looks promising he has not proved himself unlike Bent (Why he wasnt taken to the world Cup i'll never understand) I agree that he probably would rather go to a top six side, but to say he is not worth 18 million, when Man united just paid nearly 20million each for two kids hardly anyone has heard off and could prove to be complete flops, is silly.

Oh I have just realised that that article may stir the Celtic 'connection' we have at the moment - I dont mean to do that! Its just that I dont think individuals such as Bellamy deserve the money they get. I am about to be a dad for the first time in a few months and I dont want my kids idolising players like Bellamy - I am a teacher and my wife is a nurse - it would take us 5 years to earn what players like him earn in a week - I know its part and parcel of the game but for what they are paid they SHOULD be role models. I have a thought here - my mind has wandered a bit and I now get the feeling that we may be waiting for June to pass before we get any news on transfers. Think about it - by July 1st we should have sold loads of season tickets, have new sponsorship with Nike, new kits and news on the hotel being sorted. What good worldwide PR if the new kit launch with loads of Nike reps at the launch with a few world class players being confirmed then as well. Could it be one big marketing strategy to show how the future is claret and blue?? Surely most signings wont be confirmed until July anyways?

If the club is going to sign players of world class, spend big sums of money and also buy quite a few players which would seem to be the case by the numbers going out then they will want to do this with a big splash of publicity and its no good doing it with the new stars holding up last seasons kit. If Boruc moves to Villa then I think many a Celtic fan would cease to exist! He's better than Gordon though - so I'm led to believe; not that I watch their poor excuse for a league! They (Celtic) keep threatening an invasion too, what's all that about anyhow?

I want Scott CARSON to be honest. BORUC would do though. Like the thought of having BENT still. NO NO NO to Luke YOUNG - No NO. REO COKER still a favourite and would fancy having a look at NUGENT if no other big strike comes up - we have enough fast ones....though in saybing that I would love to see AGBON rotating with DEFOE but not BELLEND. I'm in favour of Curtis DAVIES for the future and SWP to further bolster an already jet heeled team. Don't want GRAVESEN but would have 3 seasons ago when he was clattering for fun with Everton. Bring on Matty TAYLOR aas well.

No to Forlan matey; he's protected in the Liga but couldn't take the knocks here. Why Young, he's ok but not the kind of player that would make others sit up and take notice. Wrong signals. Sneijer - yes, De Jong - a proper full season in Holland and I'll make my decision on him. Drenthe - yes please. Now go get me SWP and NRC - both very hungry and with a point to prove to - well - everyone!!! Stick Bent and M Taylor into that equasion and you're talking at least 7th place!!!!

Bent aint going to pick us over Liverpool or spurs thats a fact. Personally think IAOFC wish list is pretty reasonable.And young is a hard hitting no nonsense defender who can get up and down the park all day not going to set the world alight but better than anything we currently have and disagree with ur views on forlan he didnt get a regular run at man utd but does in spain.He would be a right touch!

Boruc was asked if he would ever leave celtic and he answered "only if for a bigger club ". Implying that he doesn't plan on leaving but only if a much bigger club like barcelona or mufc with chances of european success wanted him. Certainly not villa, sorry. You would be lucky to get Gordon and i think he would be better off waiting to join a bigger club too as he deserves to play on a bigger stage not meaningless league fixtures to decide mid table IMHO.

I still think Forlan is not built for EPL - delighted if he proves me wrong as he seems a genuine guy. Young is ok, agreed but i think we CAN get better for next season and should try and do so - if he comes i'll welcome him and hope he proves me wrong. Forlan looked lost at Man U and was oner of those unfortunates who didn't break the click and that was his major chink.

Read on other boards some are 'excited' at the prospect of forlan being targeted for villa. He may have scroed x amount of goals in la liga but he scored a trolley full before he joined united, he may also have progressed as a forward but surely theres someone better out there for £15mill! forlan top of MON's list? paper talk surely.

HAREWOOOD and FORLAN - No. Harewood is just another Ameobi or Carl Cort, say it aint so, MON. ASPINAL, you're a quality 'poster' but ths De Jong thing has got to stop. He played 22 games in all comps last season and we need to reserve judgement. Nugent I would love to see here, you never know wht he's going to do next, good player and an ample target man too. Him and Carew would compliment the squad micely. Now go get me SWP, NCS, Sneijder, C Davies and Matty Taylor. And Defoe if you can't get Nugent.

We want Bent, we want Bent, we want Bent. There is every chance of him coming and using the non-appearance of Eufa football to stay fresh and bang a load of goals in! He would love to have Carew and Agbon laying the balls off and opening up channels for him. TYoung crossing them in and NRC sliding them through. Petrov will be on song next seaon while Maloney will be pinging crosses from the other side. We can guarantee him first team footie, progression and England would definitely be watching. Cue; loads of Spurs fans coming on to large it and say how they are soooo much better and that they would offer him better...actually OAL'll be at school so we've a couple of hours before our bubbles are burst.

Not overly happy about this Forlan link. Hopefully its just another case of mid-summer media speculation. Must be in a negative mood this afternoon, cause the possibilities of Defoe being freed up for a White Hart Lane exit should Darren Bent make the move to Tottenham, also has me concerned.

OAL, soz mate. CPAVFC, get here now and do me a hundred lines! Gotta say Glensider,V76, I would rather we had Defoe on our books than against us and he'd probably have a realistic price tag. He could gel with the team quite easily given the Barry/England connection and would be a useful player in the squad, certainly not a bad choice for a sub. He may be bling but just look at NRC getting his haircut during an interview...they're all prima donnas in the large part. He's not a proper tit like Bellamy and scores more goals in a arguably lesser team than the scousers. Worth a punt i say. Bring in SWP and we'd be laughing. They both have a point to prove and would be hungry.

Id be happy with Forlan,He has been world class in Spain as was Misalotovic of course.Again though Im not sure if we'd get him apparently Liverpool and Valencia are looking at him.Did anyone see the Dutch fans on SSN saying Ashley was England U 21s best player,they also said Drenthe was the best Dutch player.
