West Ham Skipper To Villa?

A report in the Express and Star claims that Villa have made a £7m bid for want-away West Ham captain Nigel Reo-Coker.

Some whispers on the forums yesterday suggested his number plate had been seen at Villa Park, not too sure about that but hey ho, you never do know!

The Express claim that 'sources' in London say Villa are ahead in the race for the 23-year-old midfielders signature ahead of interest from Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle who haven't tabled bids.

Reo-Coker from two years ago would be a good addition. The Reo-Coker from this season would be a bad signing. Bit of a big time charlie, i mean his interview the other day when he was getting his hair cut!!! what was that about!!! But in MON I trust so if he thinks he can do a job then so be it

So Villa are ahead of Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle on the basis that the others haven't tabled bids!

He's not impressed with his attitude so far. Whinging that west ham didn't make him feel wanted, seems like the type of character we really don't want. Collymore ring any bells?

05/06/2007 14:48:00 has us in for Sneijder now after Valencia failed with a third bid. They are quoting 8m. The guy is a class act. 18 goalds from midfield and only 22. They also mention that we have to move quick as Barcelona will be after him if Deco leaves. To me this would be far too good to be true - but then a lot of things have over the last year or so with Villa. I seriously think we should go in with 15m plus. He really is sheer class and we could shift all season tickets and let the world know that we have it in us to sign the top players. I truly believe that if he signed it would be the biggest coup Villa have made in terms of playing staff EVER. The guy is awesome and if we dont move fast we will miss out. Put it this way if Reo-Coker is 7m I would be okay with us spending 15m plus on Sneijder. QUALITY!

Nige is another England U21s Captain ala Barry but we don't want any whingers and I have seen far more of him complaining and moaning than playing football. Come on MON, we need a world class centre mid desperately

i still think we should be setting our sights higher than players from west ham west brom or championship sides if we are going to battle for a top six place. we need to be making big name signings not prima donnas like Reo coker

fully agreed deano, just think how many more season tickets would be sold also if we got sneijder like.we need to set our stall out for the top players if we can get them, although i truly wasnt expecting us 2 be in 4 them just yet,but who knows with martins world class reputation in football, who knows....................... Reo-Coker looks like he is skipping around like a fairy in the picture above. We need a tough tackling box to box playmaker not a pansy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't agree with you Kentvilla. It is not where you buy the players from, it is about how good they can be! Manure just won the league and their keeper was from Fulham, as was Saha. The reserve keeper was from the Yawnthorns. Ferdinand was from West Sham (via Leeds) as was Carrick (via Spuds). Shrek was purchased from bluescouse, Vidic was relatively unknown, as was Evra. Infact coming to think of it, I can not recall Manure recently poaching a player from a top top club, apart from Laursen on loan from arsealona. The skill is not in identifying good players at big clubs, it is in identifying talent wherever it may be. As an example, we are being linked with Keighley at the Dingles for 3 million. He was purchased just a few months ago for 25,000 (or was it 250,000?). It is about having good, hopefully the best, scouting networks and contacts.

But you could argue he's no better than Davis or Osbourne. We need classy bigger names.

The problem we have relatively little to offer to the big names. Randy won't just throw his money at a player to get them here. I honestly think that we will rebuild over the next couple of years hopefuly getting better each time picking up the star players on the way. I think it's going to take time.

have to agree with gabby,i rate reo coker always have done.has everything in his locker to be top class(pace, can tackle, energy, vision and football brain).just on ssn breaking news,we have defo bid 7 mill for him,be interesting to watch him 2night for under 21's.tarzan mate, think he is completely different to davis as stevie d is alot more attacking where as reo is bit defensive in my eyes, just the type of player we need and have neede 4 a while. utv

Nottinghamvillain - I understand kind of what you mean. We DO have alot to offer but cannot compete with the top 4. We are therefore competing with Everton, Newcastle, Wham & Spurs(London) for a nucleus of players that fall outside of the world-class bracket. I'm positive that with the ambition, ground, training facilities, MON, we have more to offer than all of these. It then comes down to what the player actually fancies, where he wants to live (and his family). And yes, every year as we get better so will the quality players.

If we do not sign RC then a club in the same kind of position as us (eg5th to 15th in Prm) will, we are about to embark on the drive to try to stop the top 4 winning everything again along with teams like Spurzz, NUFC , Everton I guess WHU as well and Ithink Reo-Coker with something to prove possibly is the kind of player that could drive us forward.

Agree with you VOTN! Reo-Coker is just the sort of player we need. Proven premiership class. Sneijder? Potential but have you lot been playing Championship Manager again? I'm not sure that's a reliable source of information you know! Or are you all experts on the Dutch League... come on you Twente Enschedes!

fatloser-5th is not the "same sort of position as us" or the same as "15th".Perhaps you should concentrate on finishing in the top half of the table instead of deluding yourselves about competing with the top 4.The brutal truth is that Villa sucked for long periods last year & nearly got relegated...!!

i don't know why you guys keep saying we shouldn't pay over the odds or get ripped off. It's as if you guys are forking out the money. If an extra few million can garauntee us names like sneijder, reo-coker etc etc.go for it. Lerner is a billionaire after all. and you know what they say money makes money. As long as they play well on the pitch those extra few million will have looked a bargain if we play in the champions league

Not too sure about Reo-Coker, his ability or his attitude. He's never overly impressed me, but then again its not me he has to impress. Several top judges rate him, so maybe he's the man. Nothing will happen though until after the Euro under 21 tournament, so until then we'll just have to sit tight.
