Ian Taylor Says Thanks

Ian Taylor Says Thanks

Villa legend Ian Taylor has thanked the Villa fans for his fond farewell.

Hundreds of Villans travelled to Sixfields to see Taylor's last game. The former Villa midfielder told the official site:

'It was great that so many of them came along. It had been arranged beforehand that I would play for an hour and then come off, which is what happened. The crowd gave me a great reception as I left the pitch - and then I noticed the Villa fans were leaving the ground!'

And on his departure when Graham Taylor told him he was no longer in his plans (May 2003 - jeez, time flies) he said:

'I was close to tears when Graham told me. We had played Sunderland at home the week before and I wish he'd said something then because I could have had a decent send-off. As it was, no-one knew until after the game at Leeds.'

I fell out with him in 1999 when all the Villa players came to sign autographs at a Chester match but no matter how many times I shouted him he never came over

Can`t believe how Taylor treated him as she should have had the Villa Park send-off he deserved,he was bought from Sheff.Weds reserved yet transformed us that year and helped us stay up and gave great service, thanks Ian.

I remember his tireless effort every single match i ever saw him play. There aren't too many players i can say that about. He was one of us, and it showed. Thanks Ian.

Graham Taylor's handling of the Ian Taylor situation was on a par with him hauling off Gary Lineker when the striker stood on the brink of collecting that international goal-scoring record. Both decisions defied logic. I.T. desrved his moment in the Villa Park sun, collecting the applause of the supporters.
