Villa Goalkeeper Departing

19-year-old Villa keeper Stephen Henderson has agreed to join Bristol City when his contract ends on July 1st.

He said:

'I am very happy to be here and I can't wait to get going on July 1 as I am here to make an impression. I would like to prove myself to the fans and challenge the other two goalkeepers already at the club. I came through the academy ranks at Villa and I have played plenty of reserve-team football. I am still only young and hopefully my career can start now.'

'I am joining the club at the right time. I have seen all the videos of the promotion celebrations and it was a tremendous year for Bristol City.'

Good luck Stephen.

Looked a capable enough keeper. Would certainly think he has the ability to progress with Bristol City, so good luck to him. We're certainly having a 'clearing-out' of the goalkeeping ranks, wonder if Ts or ST are next on the exit list?

Could well be right Glen as when players exit it's usually the sing of players coming in. Good Luck to the lad hope he is a success at Brizzol and gets to play against Villa at Villa Park soon.

I'll drink to that col8. Hope we're not reported to be keen on bringing him back to VP in three years or so time, as is reputed to be the case with Boaz Myhill. Still, I guess that keepers can progress and develop as time moves on, and I've a feeling from what I've seen of Stephen Henderson, that given regular first team football at Ashton Gate, he could well turn out to be a very useful keeper.
