Villa Striker Ignored England Calls

England Under 21 manager and former boss of Manchester City, (that is a long title) Stuart Pearce has explained why Gabriel Agbonlahor has been left out of the squad for the European Championships this summer.

Psycho told Sky Sports News:

'We called him up for the trip to Spain and he was on holiday at the time. He's failed to respond to the phone calls the FA have made to him. He must have his own reasons, my focus is on the players that have shown up.'

And on becoming full time with the U21's following his departure from the 'I can't be bothered to remember the full name of the city of manchester stadium whatever it is called'

'At the moment I am pleased to be involved in the squad, I've not really thought about it myself as I expected to be the Manchester City boss in the summer.'

If that the case than Gaby is a dope.
still skeggy
Or Pearce is a *****..... I know which I think it is :)

strange one, i hope gabby hasnt blown his chances, he really needed to be on that international stage. i hope the club make a statement.
Stig
Sorry but if you hoped to play for England and they had a competition coming up, you don`t go on holiday, without checking with the FA ? It`s the players fault.
Fletch
I have to agree with Fletch (damn I hate doing that). Gabby must have known he had to make himself available for the training camp.

VOTH made a point on the previous article related to this story on this site saying that the onus is not on the club to make a clarification public. Essentially the responsibility lies with Gabby - hopefully he has his reasons, if not, is he mature enough to say so? Whatever it is, I hope he treats it as a minor setback, and if he wants to achieve his England dream, he'll have to play his socks off for Aston Villa!
bazzah
Who gives a monkeys? The less he plays in the summer, the fresher he'll be at the start of new season.
Stevew
Maybe he would rather play for Nigeria or Scotland !!!!!!
fatloser
U21 counts for jack who really gives a carp about it. Think of all the england players who don't play for u21 and go on to great things.
iomvilla
What with McMuppet manager of the senior squad and McPsycho manager of the U21s, who in their right mind would bother getting up off the beach ? Take a well earned rest, Gabby!
pongogidman
The lad has got his priorities right. Villa comes first and we have got a game in under 3 months to prepare for. If he doesn't play he can't get injured and he is gonna be raring to go with a rest. Also the prem is the best league in the world. U21s conference at best.
Villan444
Totally up to him and I'm sure there is an explanation, his phone is probably out of order. Sitting at home waiting for it to ring and it isn't plugged in or something!??!?!
The Fear
I'm sure he isn't daft enough to just ignore calls is what I was meaning to say!
The Fear
Martin O'Neill appears to be taking all the blame according to an article on the official site
Miss_Aston
I was praying that he`d gone AWOL in protest at Gareth Barry`s omission from full squad but alas MON has backed him up even though story sounds fishy, screw England i say anyhoo as they disregard Villa players all the time.
ASPINALL
Its a strange one alright. A lack of communication somewhere, but a scenario thats difficult to comprehend.

Gabby should have been an automatic choice. Perhaps his international loyalties will lie elsewhere?
