To Bellend Or Not To Bellend?

To Bellend Or Not To Bellend?

Reports have linked us to Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy for what seems like 30 years now. These reports seem to be increasing as rumours suggest Rafa Benitez is about to have a clear out at Anfield to freshen things up for another Premiership (failed) challenge next season!

Due to the fact he is one of the fringe players for the Reds, Villa are again being linked to the former Coventry and Blackburn player with reports suggesting Martin O'Neill will put in an offer for the Wales international who played for him on loan at Celtic.

Bellamy certainly gets a mixed reaction and appears to be coming a journeyman, unable to settle at any club and often causing unrest in the dressing rooms and on the golf courses, just ask John Arne Riise!

Mark Hughes is also said to be interested in taking him back to Blackburn. Bellamy apparently only left Blackburn due to the fact he was a Pool fan as a kid - or some other load of tripe like that!

So what do you reckon, to Bellend or not to Bellend?

He made 23 starts for Liverpool, 4 sub appearances and was replaced 12 times. In that time he scored just 7 Premiership goals and bagged two in Europe. On top of that he has been known to be injury prone. On the flip side, he has pace to burn and is a nasty snarling player, the sort Villa have lacked for years. Hmmm, tough being a manager isn't it!?

Our latest poll asks if you'd sign him or not.

Well, I think Bellamy would be a decent addition but if the £12m rumours are true, I hope MON looks elsewhere.

Glensider i agree fully with you. There is no doubt in my mind Craig Bellamy is a top quality striker, if MON can curb the antics associated with him we could have one hell of a player on our hands.

Interestingly, when Matty Taylor was linked yesterday our site was full of Pompey fans rubbishing the rumour and protesting that he won't be sold etc. etc. but I haven't seen any Liverpool comments hoping Bellamy doesn't leave. Just a thought...........

Gazvilla, fair point about attracting a certain level of player to take us on to the next level, I agree. In my opinion I just hope it's not this particular player. Today the rumour mill is suggesting £12 million which would be ridiculous. If we are in that ballpark I would prefer taking a punt on Darren Bent. My comment about challenging Liverpool in the near future harks back to the board's stated aim of competing for champions league football in five years which would mean competing with Liverpool etc. but you are totally right in saying that they are light years ahead of us at present. Just shows the size of the task facing us, but it's going to be exciting to see how we go!!

Bellamy? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bellamys the type players want to avoid having in their teams dressing room. He"s a proven pest that managers cant wait to get rid of,6 clubs in as many years proves that.Berbatov"s the type players want to play with,he can attract players,Bellamy cant..!!

Jon.H - You say of Liverpool 'a team we would hope to be competing with in the near future' Quote. We are years away from Liverpool and they will kick on again now and only attract players we can dream of. If Bellemy signs a 3 or 4 year contract and takes us on to the next level (top 6) then perhaps we will then be able to attract better players than him. Until then I think we will only be able to attract this level of player.

I agree with some of your sentiments that Gabby isn't yet the finished article and could be seen as a gamble, but just imagine for a moment that Villa decided to sell him. There would be a stampede for his signature from most of the other sides in the prem. But as you say, if he's good enough he'll play. I just think that spending £8 million on a problem player who is being moved on after just one season by a team we would hope to be competing with in the near future, is just as big a gamble. Regarding our strike force being our main problem last term, MON started with Angel and Baros both of whom were moved on and replaced. Unfortunately January isn't ideal as new players need time to settle, but when they did I thought we looked pretty good and on occassion, awesome. I still think covering Carew would be more sensible and that for the money he would cost, we could do better than Bellamy.

If we are going to improve, then we have to be in there competing for the likes of Bellamy. Gabby still has a lot to learn, a lot to prove. Will he be even as successful next season as he was this one just past? Who knows, but why take that chance? If Gabby etc are good enough, they wont be held back. They'll be forcing themselves into the starting line up each week. MON has worked with Bellamy, so he has some idea about his supposed faults. If MON thinks that he will improve our strike force (our main weakness this last campaign) then that will do for me.

well obviously im not thinking as far back as hoddle or lineker am i. ask most spurs fans and they'll tell you the same thing, obvioulsy there are exceptions. look how big their squad is to most teams, its not hard to work out they dont sell many players.
