McCann Out - Sneijder In?

Gavin McCann is a target for newly promoted Sunderland according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 29-year-old Villa midfielder is under pressure to keep his place in the Villa midfield with younger players coming through the system and more purchases expected in the summer, so it could well make sense to see McCann move on and a return to the Stadium Of Light under Roy Keane might make sense for him.

According to the report 'a clutch' of other Premiership clubs are also interested. Hmmm, been talking with his agent have they!? McCann joined Villa from the then relegated Mackams for 2million in the summer of 2003.

They also say we are after Ajax's 22-year-old Dutch international Wesley Sneijder. That'll do nicely son!

He'd do us, if he ends up half the player Overmars and Bergkamp did for Arsenal we'd be laughing! Like the Dutch, they have a good attitude!
The Fear
No way - Sneijder is top class and should be a big-4 target. We need Wilf Bouma to do some sweet-talking when the Dutch squad next meet up. Imagine if he signed on July 1st - shockwaves and a definite message sent to other players who may be put of signing because of no European football next season. Also on SkySports rumours pages - people linking us with Gordon, Jaaskelinan and Doyle.
deano.avfc
Just agents pimping dodgy goods. Roll on July 1st. Papa Diop was a great call from the transfer thread.
tarzan
The guy is pure class! 20 million for him and Huntaeller anyone?
DeanoVilla
id wet my pants if we signed him
Its All Over FC
young fast strong two footed 43goals in 126app from midfield for Ajax champions league and World cup experience = IDEAL
VillaMalta
we'd had a small midfield if we signed him
Its All Over FC
as long as the players have the appetite and skill they'll be fine plus a Big Papa Skidiplidupopaiehdwaaaa would come in handy
VillaMalta
Sneijder-yes please.
gwyllum18
I stand by my wishlist from a month or so ago...Huntelaar & Sneijder,Craig Gordon, Sylvain Distin,Joey Barton( I know I winced the first time and I am wincing again..but the boys a winner,or is that nutter!)and a new one for the mix Van Den Borre to play right back.He was hotly tipped at Anderlecht with Kompany and is one of their star players.Someone solid..that'll do for me..anything else that Martin deems worthy will be a cherry on the top!
OneloveVilla
my dad is his best mates mate n everton, tottenham n sunderland have asked to talk to him and we are no longer offering him a new contract!

Just to sound a note of caution here, I went to Rotterdam 2 weeks ago, (on the Sunday of our anniversary!) and watched Sneijder play for Ajax against AZ in the Dutch Cup Final (Dutch FA Cup) and I would say he was overrated. He may have had a bad game - but dont be too disappointed if we dont get him.
xfranc
Sneijder looks class. McCann has been a good player for us , but not one for the Randy era i'm affraid.
HolteEnder43
Should give Davo a go if we can't get anyone decent
tarzan
Why would they sell him, unless there's a problem?
sidvilla
we should sign beckham. joke lol
industrial_musical
xfranc, he has scored something like 43 goals in 136 appearances from centre mid, thats the reason why he is rated so highly, considering he is 22. Anyway, everyone knows MON watches and watches and watches players untill he is sure they are right for the team, so whoever he signs will get my full support.

Remember the Milosevic video
sidvilla
This is good news, but seriously, is YouTube now becoming the new Champ manager as the way to buy players?
Thegreatdando
YouTube can make The Twins look majestic!
tarzan
tarzan ye of little faith, but I know what you mean, If Villa are after Wesley Sneijder then sure as hell loads of other clubs will be. Do Villa have what it takes to attract International players? We will see.
col8
Sensible words of wisdom and caution from Col. As for Gavin McCann, the time is probably right now for him to move on, or move back if there's any truth in The Stadium Of Light rumours. Cant see why Everton or Tottenham would be chasing him as villasw suggests, but then nothing about this game really surprises me anymore.
glensider
I don't know why Spurs will chasing McCann either. Sunderland will be good for him. Wesley Sneijder is a class player so it is going to be very hard for you to get him, especially as some top clubs in Spain are after him.
OneAaronLennon
Apart from the free kicks I couldn't help but think there is no way he would have any near that much room in any villa game I have seen. Mind you all the goals were late in the games so maybe dutch players aren't too fit and can't close down like bouma was when he first came.
supermansfoot
Potentially.....The new Merse, you little twinkle toes you!!
OneloveVilla
Wasn't Lil' Lee linked with a moved to Ajax recently? He could be offered as part of a deal that sees Sneijder jet into B6?! There must be some truth to this link as we seem to be the only premiership club linked with his signature!? This guy looks the real deal - it would be class if he signs!
bazzah
Wesley is a good young defender but isnt he a target for arsenal
calum72
You must be talking about a different Wesley calum, because Wesley Sneijder is a centre midfielder or a left winger, not a defender.
OneAaronLennon
and so what if he is a target for Arsenal?? we need to lose this infiriority complex we sometimes have. We are the mighty Aston Villa FC or AVFC if you look at the badge :( but anyway he is a wonderful player and just the type who would become a Legend for us and certainly not out of our reach. And seriously lemonhead if you keep coming on this site just to belittle our club i'm gonna come down to that ***** hole of a stadium you have and look for the muppet with biggest mouth which most likely will be you and bitch slap you. and if a player should decide not to join Aston Villa because they don't think we are good enough they can take a hike and we can all gloat when we dick their team in a final. sorry its been a long day rant over cheers for listening
VillaMalta
What's the matter with you VillaMalta, not once over the past few weeks now have i come and belittled your club. Everything that i have said has been constructive and was not supposed to offend anyone in anyway. I have figured out that one Spurs fan doing that (Chalky) is enough.
OneAaronLennon
Blooming heck OAL. what a refreshing change - though I did watch with amusement at the way you spiced things up on other strings. No matter; I can tell when you've had a beer. Good comments by the way.
koolbill
Lets not get excited, its only another punt. However, why not? Perhaps swop for Lee Hendrie, plus a bit. By the way Malta, calm down!
morky13villa
"Wesley Sneijder is a class player so it is going to be very hard for you to get him, especially as some top clubs in Spain are after him."-quote "and i am sure Van Der Vaart can also do better than Villa."-quote "Well if Agbonlahor fulfills his potential he will undoubtedly be better than Defoe, no question about it. The question is, can you keep him when the likes of Man U and Chelsea come sniffing?"-quote All top (Champions League) clubs would be after him (sneijder) and after all the top quality players so does that mean we're not gonna sign anyone. You constantly come on here telling us how your players are better and that everyone is too good for us youve been doing it lately and you did in january. We have the money the Manager the training facilities History and season ticket sales have gone through the roof all we lack is european football. Which for a player of his age shouldnt be a problem as i feel o'neill will tell him of his plan which i gather will be one of signing quality players coupled with our exciting youth to eventually lead us not to just qualifing for Europe but of competing for the top honours in Europe and i believe that the statements made by the club saying there is a plan to get us into the champions league in 5 years was just to keep our long suffering fans from putting their hopes us to much. but i think secretly the club expects to be playing top level football much sooner than that. its just rather annoying though i shall apologise about the way i said what i said earlier it really has been a stressful day.
VillaMalta
Well if any offence was taken from them comments i apologise but it was not meant to offend in anyway.
OneAaronLennon
what you say isnt offensive. it is just ill thought out and disrespectful look at it logically going on to another teams site and telling them they are not good enough to sign certain players. There are people here who have been waiting a very long time to be in the position we are in now again its disrespectful. And i would sort of understand it from a fan of a club who has been successful in recent years but youve won nothing so i really cant understand where you're coming from and why you feel you have to come on here and talk about our team. some of the things you say you would think we are some small town club. We are Aston Villa founders of the league and former European Champions and we dont suffer from dellusions of grandeur because we are grand and we have the history to prove it!!!
VillaMalta
I have never once said that Villa are not good enough to attract the top players, i said that it will be hard for you because you do not have the means to attract them (European football)."Well if Agbonlahor fulfills his potential he will undoubtedly be better than Defoe, no question about it. The question is, can you keep him when the likes of Man U and Chelsea come sniffing?" This is not an offensive comment or a wind up, it is the truth. It can happen to any team outside of the top four. I remember Spurs fighting with Man U to keep Lennon last year, the same happened with Berbatov. When a team outside of the top four has a top quality player it is inevitable that the top teams in Europe are going to come sniffing, the question is "Is the player loyal?". You will only know the answer to this when it happens. And on the point of Wesley Sneijder, no offence but i know that i would rather choose a team playing in the Champions League over Villa.
OneAaronLennon
Come on give OAL a break, i think he speaks alot of sense when he is being sensible. I for one agree with his comments about Sneijder, however if anyone could attract him to a club not playing in Europe then we have both the manager and chairman to do it.
mackaavfc
Pretty right mackaavfc, you have a manager that is known worldwide and a chairman that is willing to provide the funds to get you where you want to be so if he does go to a club not currently playing in Europe, it is likely to be Villa.
OneAaronLennon
oal wether you are constructive or not. You may be the most polite guy in the world and raise squillions for charity. But why would you feel the need to spend the volume of time that you do on the Villa site? Very simply you are either A) a closet Villa fan. B) You have no friends. C) You are envious of what we have won and what the future holds. I find it very strange that you are not on the Arse website in the same way. You do have a real inferiority complex. I feel a certain sort of sadness for you, and I am sure many other users of this site feel the same way. The first thing I think when I see one of your posts is .......... rrrrrrr, what a shame for the poor bloke!!! Get a life fella.
voiceoftheholte
we'll be in europe year after next anyway...
industrial_musical
The Valencia coach on Sneijders iminent arrival, Sky website:"I don't want to talk about him because he is a player that Valencia is negotiating for," Flores stated. "What I will say is that I do not know if Sneijder and his qualities are what Valencia need. "Maybe the coach does not have to put names forward, but he must have some contact with the people carrying out the negotiations, to discuss the profile of the player he wants to see at the club. "As a minimum, he must have an agreement for the type of player he wants to sign. It is common sense."
koolbill
Anyway if you are struggling to work that one out, maybe we could go for Nicky Hofs of Feyenoord, born 1983. Excellent midfielder and scored some brill goals to help Holland win the youth world cup, a couple of seaons ago.
koolbill
Sneijder would never join a club that finished in the botton half of its domestic league. He is destined to join a top club, the latest rumour is Valencia or Real Madrid!
BomBom
Erm, i just said that. What's your club sport?
koolbill
dont think i will see Sneijder down the lane any time soon but would love to see him in the premier league.if villa want him well and good.you have possibly one of the most state of the art training facilities in england and on that alone i think you will go places.chin up its not that bad!!!!!!!!!!!
BillytheYId
We have to be realistic about our targets. All too often we allow our hearts to rule our heads.
