Villa Rumours

A Portugal footy site has quotes from Pacos de Ferreira left-back Vitorino Antunes who apparently could be set to sign for Aston Villa.

The left-back, according to PortuGOAL, has impressed Villa and the Portugal Under-21 said:

“It would be a great chance to play in England for a big club.”

And Vital Villa member thegreatdando posted this set of rumours in our forum:

Also does anyone read the 'football bible' that is FansFC, we have no fewer than 5 transfer links to Giles Barnes (if Derby don't make it to the Premiership), Marlon King (except he's signed a contract at Watford till 2010), Antunes for 750,000, Distin (but we all knew that) and a shock return for Darius Vassell (apparently part of a massive Eastlands clear out)..

At this point i'd like to consult Beefy's Bull-S***-O-Meter!!!

Adding, Ooops and I forgot Man Utd outcast Gerard Pique....

Another link I've seen are Sheffield United defender Phil Jagielka who, according to the gossip sites, is rated at 6million. Not to mention the repeated links to Craig Bellamy, Steve Sidwell (thought Chelsea had got him?) and ......, no think that was it actually!

wot about wes brown?
villasw
He got transferred to Milton Keynes burger king, new manager's position there.
johnnyuk
Wes brown is *****! they can keep him.
spit-fire
I heard were after Koncheskey and Monty and I hope there nothing more then rumours
Christo
To be fair, i think speculating at this transfer window is probably some of the most fruitless we'll do. Last year it was easier, but this year we're talking world class players, and it seems if we're to attract those they'll come from abroad.
johnnyuk
I think the title of this article is spot on, these are just DAFT links. However, on a side note, on some of the not so good players we are being linked with, who is to say that these types of players wouldn't be successful at other clubs. Take Crouch for example, abysmal for us, and good fo Southampton & Liverpool. Some may be worth taking a punt on for small amounts of money.
Thegreatdando
Yeah but liverpool didn't take that much of a punt because he was great a southhamption. Southhampton didn't really take a punt either, he was just the best player they could get. Villa unlike southhampton will have more money and pulling power so there is no point in taking punts on players that are not getting a game somewhere, unless they have proven themselves to be a good player and are just playing in a good team, like shaun wright phillips at chelsea.
liamo1981
Ahhhh, but it's all about perception, what if you sign a player with a massive repuation for big money, and he turns out to be pants a'la Collymore.
Thegreatdando
why on earth would we want/need vassell back? he cant kick a ball without falling over!
bobbyfett
ive hread were after ljungberg?would be a decent signing i think lots of experience and has done great 4 arsenal!dont know about how he would get along with melberg though?
villasw
Rumours, rumours, rumours, all probably consisting of more fiction than fact. While its always an interesting pastime to speculate just what new faces may be coming onboard, I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if a few surprise packages head our way this summer. Bring em on Martin, we're all ready and waiting.
glensider
Keep Vaseline, don't want him back!
leelindsay
See Distin is strongly rumoured to be on his way to Portsmouth later this week. Cant say I blame him for wanting away from The City Of Manchester Stadium, but I'm surprised that a few 'bigger' clubs (sorry Pompey) haven't made attempts to secure his signature, maybe even ourselves.
glensider
There is a simple explanation for that glensider, he's crap!
jonah
and too old...
industrial_musical
If half the player we are linked to arrive at the club in the summer we will win the League, FA Cup and League Cup with out playing the same player twice, at the last count we had 300 new players linked with a move to Aston Villa.
col8
Maybe MON didn`t fancy him but must say i`m disappointed we can`t get Distin, not that many good centre-halves available for what he`d have cost us over 3 years, why Pompey !!!!!!!!!!!
ASPINALL
Disagree Jonah, and with industrial_musical too. He's a decent central defender, one of the premiership's best, even in a poor Manchester Citeh side, and at what, 28(?) I'd question where the too old assessment comes in. Still, tis all a matter of opinion.
glensider
IF WE WANT A GOOD RIGHT BACK WE SHOULD SIGN GURPREET HAYER FROM TIPTON TOWN HE IS ACE AND IS IN TOP FORM LATLEY WER COULD PROBABLY GETHIM FOR 500,000 AS WELL! HE IS PURE QUALITTY AND HAS TONS OF SKILLS! AND IS ONLY 18!
villasw
are you this wonderful player you talk of?
industrial_musical
