Which Player Would You Want Back

Vital Villa asked which player 'in their prime' would you most like back.

What I should have asked really was which player in their prime, God apart, would you like back, as you put our lord Paul McGrath in any poll and he'll win!

Anyway, the results were:

Paul McGrath (43%)
Dwight Yorke (10%)
Andy Townsend (9%)
David Platt (8%)
Gordan Cowans (7%)
Paul Merson (6%)
Andy Gray (5%)
Ian Taylor (2%)
Brian Little (2%)
Dennis Mortimer (2%)
Tony Morley (2%)
Mark Bosnich (2%)
Alan McInally (1%)
Bruce Rioch (1%)

bosko balaban anyone !!!!!

My vote went to Dwight Yorke. I cried when we sold him AND supported Man Utd (only in the Champions League) that following season. I was glad he won The CL. He left us because he wanted to win things. He won the greatest prize of all. He'd never have done it at The Villa. Love Lord McGrath too. Obviously.

If McGrath was in his prime, playing now,how much would he be worth?

paul mcgrath = legend

I voted for Platt. Platt was without doubt a far superior midfielder to anything that pulls on an England shirt now. Proud to say i had the privledge of watching him in a Villa shirt.

Bosnich we need a decent keeper, Sorensen is ****!!

had to be paul mcgrath

Paul McGrath without question..!

Well I'm part of the 1% crowd. Bruce Rioch for me. Sheer quality, and what a left foot. Was broken-hearted when he upped and headed on to pastures new. Probably the first real quality player I saw play in a Villa shirt since I first ventured into VP back in the early 60's.

What about this for a shout - Kevin Phillips - could you imagine him in his peak at Villa banging in around 30 goals a season!!! Just what we would have needed!!

There must be a lot of younger posters on here. I can't believe that the likes of Dennis Mortimer, Brian Little and Tony Morley only got 2%. Any one of them would be worth 30mil today.

Indeed Jonah, and in reality Mr McGrath should be barred from all future polls having attained the title of God it skews the data, still, nice to have a lot of up and coming youth to carry the roar of Villa Park into our bright future, UTV

I love God but Ive gone of

I love God but Ive gone off him a bit since he's been making it clear that he's a Chelsea fan.

Paul Merson without a doubt, exciting to watch, hard working, versatile, all the making of a quality midfield player. I wander if any of the current lads will feature in this poll in the future, in which case we are lucky to have them!!
young_jonah
nice of you to join us son!

Had to be Brian Little for me and i wasn't even around when he was playing. My Dad's hero he was. I watched the 75 and 77 league cup finals. I think it was the 75 one where he was unbelievable! I'd even stick Ray Grayden in there from those 2 games.....

Hi Young Jonah....

Interesting that as far as I can see, only one person has selected a goalkeeper to 'have back'. Considering a lot of folk (not this guy) are unhappy with TS, I find that a little surprising.
