Plenty of huffing and puffing over the last two days about the new Villa badge but to be honest, the poll we ran shows that only 13% think it is 'totally awful' and most seem to think that although it isn't the best, it is better than the old badge. 15% said the badge was fantastic. 29% that it was an improvement on the last one. 29% voted that it could have been better. 4% said it was average at best and 13% that it is totally awful. That left 10% needing more time for it to grow on them, not literally you understand? End of really, it is now our badge and once on the new Nike shirts and worn by top players, I'm sure it will be accepted by most! In our forum poll things are a little closer with 49.43% liking it, 41.38% not liking it and 9.2% feeling indifferent!

Martin O'Neill is hoping Villa defender Olof Mellberg will have signed a new deal before the season ends. The Villa boss said: 'His agent wants me to get back in contact and between now and the end of the season I'd be hoping to sit down and sort something out. Like anything else, if the player has a notion he wants to stay, then fine, but if he doesn't want to then there's not a great deal you can do about it. If he playing well and you want him, then he's in a good position, if he's playing poorly and you're not that bothered, then the club's in a better position.' Aston Villa's CEO Richard FitzGerald says there is money to spend in the summer and plenty of it! The board and Richard have already stated Champions League is their aim and with the backing of owner and chairman Randy Lerner, despite the fact we have a long way to go, we should now at least stand a chance! Full article: O'Neill, Spend, Spend, Spend

Villa chief executive Richard FitzGerald has declared himself a builder. He said: 'I've only been here four months, but for me, this is really about achieving the goals set by the club and meeting certain objectives set over a period of time. This weekend is an important part of building the club.' Full article: Another Villa Brick In The Wall

Richard FitzGerald says there will be 'top class' signings brought to Villa Park this summer and says the state of the art Bodymoor Heath training ground will help persuade potential signings that Aston Villa once again mean business. Top Class Signings Due At Villa

Vital Villa broke the news that Martin O'Neill was made Barclays manager-of-the-month for April. Wonder if he is in contention for May as well!?

And what of the match report? Ahem, well, err, I forgot.........! Still, 18 home match reports for the season isn't bad!!

Vital Villa asked for your man of the match vote for our demolition of Sheffield United. The vote was a close run thing this week with Patrik Berger (32%) beating Gabriel Agbonlahor (31%) by 1%. Gareth Barry's central midfield role earnt him 11% of the votes and Thomas Sorensen came next with 7%, although I'm not sure why as I can't remember him being tested?! Then: Ashley Young 6%, Martin Laursen 5%, Craig Gardner 3%, Wilfred Bouma 2%, John Carew 2%, Olof Mellberg 1%

Martin O'Neill has spoken about how pivotal Villa captain Gareth Barry is comparing him to Chelsea's (Fat) Frank Lampard and Liverpool's (disappears for half a game) Steven Gerrard. Pah, ours is much better, he gives 100% game in and game out! O'Neill told avfc.com: 'He's the heartbeat of this football club. Heartbeat is the operative word - he's got fantastic heart, but he's got great ability and that showed on Saturday. I just thought it was an immense performance.' Full article: Gareth Barry - Heartbeat of Villa

Villa will play Toronto FC in July. Think that is on the Isle of Wight, I might be wrong though. The Claret and Blue army will be off to play Canadian team Toronto FC on July 25.

Martin O'Neill is looking at options for 26-year-old midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba who has been on loan at Burnley. The Djemba twins to move?

D-day for a few Villa players coming up as Martin O'Neill makes plans for next season? Martin O'Neill will enter into talks with several players to see where their futures lye. Players such as Thomas Sorensen, Olof Mellberg and Gavin McCann have contracts expiring in a years time. Then we have Lee Hendrie and Jlloyd Samuel who are both out of contract and both very likely to be shown the door. Full article: D-day for Villa Players?

Reflecting on the badge poll -I am one of those who needed it to grow on them - I hated it at first but now think it is quality!!! I even like the AVFC as opposed to Aston Villa FC. The only quibble I have is the star could be yellow or blue (why white???)!!!

The club is also remaining tight lipped over how the shirts will look and with the colour of the away kit changing every season it may be that they are going to go for nostalgia this time and perhaps with the 25 year anniversary they may go for a replica of the European Cup winning white with claret pinstripe!!! Also just thinking that after my last post maybe that is also why the star on the new crest is white???

My brother was at a trade show at VP last week and as part of the day he had a tour and visited the club shop where he bought a replica 1982 final shirt and the guy behind the counter told him that this is the design for next season's away strip.

I hope so, that would be wicked. Not only because of its significance but also because it was a great shirt. Think the away shirt should always be white anyway, do you remember that shocking yellow away strip we had a while ago? Cant remember what season it was but i think Yorkie was still playing for us then.

I'd be interested in seeing what the results of the badge poll are now, and if they differ from when we first did it. Fear, do you think this would be feasilble?? Would be interesting to see what opinions have changed.
