Villa Across The Atlantic

Aston Villa have announced the first game of Villa's trans-Atlantic pre-season summer tour.

The Claret and Blue army will be off to play Canadian team Toronto FC on July 25.

The rest of the details are yet to be announced but I'm buying an extra lottery ticket this week, what a laugh that would be, following Villa across America and Canada!

And the general has promised to speak to a tour operator to see if a 'barmy army' can tour with them :-)

Toronto FC? Should be a tough one! I didnt even know they played football/soccer in Canada. Oh well if it spreads the word of the villa revolution if all for it.

Toronto FC are a new MLS expansion team...not doing too well at the moment, but it's early days for them. Football is actually quite big here in Canada. The Men's National team made it to the '86 World Cup. Players such as Alan Ball & Peter Beardsley also played in Canada (Vancouver Whitecaps) in the old NASL. There was a rumour that Villa were also coming out to the West Coast to play in Vancouver....has anyone got more details on the tour?!?

Vancouver and Toronto are supposed to be great places, might plan my summer vacation to coincide with the games!

Got to be more beneficial playing MLS teams in the middle of their season, as opposed to taking on Swedish no hopers and beating them 10 plus-0.

Vancouver is the second most beautiful place in the world to live (after Lake Macquarie).

I still want to find out who the 'showcase' friendly at Villa Park is against! Bayern? Barca? Walsall? lol

Will that bird in the red hot pants be there?

glensider: I think it has more to do with raising the club's profile over there than the actual football mate.

youre right jonah, this has a lot more to do with marketing than the pure football. As long as it forms part of a decent pre season then good on the Villa for trying to lift the profile of the club. with Randys connections over the pond this is bound to help build the clubs coffers through merchandising.

Good little team - play in the MLS and are managed by Mo Johnston.

Toronto is a fab city.....in many ways....it reminds me of Brum....very cosmopolitan and diverse...but me thinks its the curry houses on King, Yonge, Bloor, Jarvis and Gerrad Streets that reminds me of of teh second city. There are also lots to do...fancy a hooky game....or a visit to the CN tower....lake Ontario has a fantastic waterside..and Niagara Falls is just 45 minutes away.Niagara Village is a must to visit and you might as well cross the border from Niagara Falls to Buffalo in the states and visist the Hard Rock Cafe for the legendary Buffalo chicken wings.... Loads of bars all around the place....and for live music, visit HUGHES ROOM and you might catch Jason Wilson and TABARRUK playing live.... The locals love their soccer....and i'm sure Villa fans will be given a fabulous welcome.... I love Toronto.......and i'm pretty sure anyone travelling with Villa will feel the same... THIS POST HAS NOT BEEN AUTHORED BY THE TORONTO TOURIST AUTHORITY ;-)

Agree Jonah about raising our profile over there. It will help a little I suppose, but only when we become successful at home, and consequently get featured more on Fox Soccer Channel (which gives excellent and extensive coverage of the premiership) will our star begin to rise stateside. Currently Man U and Chelsea are the flavour of the month over there, Liverpool and Arsenal less so, but to break into that little group and get our name more widespread, we have to do the business here in the U.K.
