The reports linking Villa's reserve team manager Kevin MacDonald to a post in the Republic of Ireland set up have proven to be correct.
Steve Staunton wants MacDonald to join his backroom staff and Villa have today confirmed on the official site that they will allow the coach to speak with the Irish FA.
The good news for Villa is he will only be required on a part-time basis.
Villa Park Operations Director Steve Stride told www.avfc.co.uk: 'We've given the Irish FA the go ahead to speak to Kevin. They want him to work for them on a part-time basis and that means he can continue his excellent work here at Villa.'
Kevin MacDonald is a highly respected coach and has survived the famous Villa Park merry go round. He steered the reserves to the title two seasons ago and saw his team finish runners up last year.
