Maloney Blow For Villa

Less than a week after scoring his first goal for Aston Villa, Shaun Maloney may have had his season ended early.

Maloney picked up a knock towards the end of the game against Manchester City and will probably not feature in the remaining fixtures. Martin O'Neill, whilst disappointed at losing a player remains optimistic that the former Celtic man will be a major star for us next season:

'Alan Smith, the physio, told me yesterday that he had gone for a precautionary x-ray, and it seems a straight forward tissue injury, but he is going to be struggling to play between now and Bolton.

'He'll be fine though. He'll get well used to it (the Premiership) and come the start of next season he will be flying.'

damn, just as he was starting to look good.

Maybe he will, maybe he won't. It depends on the money with Maloney. His loyalty level is in the gutter.

Maloney looks a snip at £1m. From what I've seen so far I've been impressed.

he has the right attitude, maybe it's playing for 'god the second' (o'neill - i have started calling him god just because he's the first manager since Gregory that i have liked)

tell you what , what I have seen on tv of him he does look a good class act !

A blow indeed. He offers us options that we had certainly lacked prior to his arrival. He certainly has an impressive pedigree from his time up north, and from what we've witnessed so far he looks well capable of making a success of his time in the premiership. It's a big step up for him, but he definitely looks the part.

Shame, was enjoying watching him late on on games with Gabby, Young and Moore. Plenty of time in the summer to get him fit. Why is it that the Celtic fans come out of the woodwork every time we mention Maloney? I do think we have upset them by only paying £1m for a potential star player. Shame! Vital Celtic is dead - seems winning the League is getting boring.

What's his injury record like? Wasn't he crocked for a while up north in gingerland? Hope he's not one of these players that's fragile. He looks talented. UTV

What a shame. Would have loved to see him strut his stuff in front of a full house at Villa Park on Saturday. Oh well Ashley, it's over to you!

Looks good, hope he is ok. Benefit of a quality decent size squad is you can handle losing a good player for a couple of games.
