Maloney: First Villa Goal

Aston Villa new boy Shaun Maloney was pleased to have scored his first goal for the club, a delightful curling free kick, however he doesn't believe that he has done enough to earn a place in the starting 11...yet.

Maloney, speaking to the official website said: 'I haven't really thought too much about the first goal, but I went close with a free-kick against Portsmouth and it was nice to get it out of the way.

'The fans have been great and have really welcomed me. I haven't really set the world alight yet, but they've taken to me and that's appreciated.

'I want to start games, but if I'm honest I haven't deserved to start recently. I haven't been playing that great.

'But if I do come on as a substitute, I need to do more of that. Then I can push for getting a spot in the starting 11.'

He's certainly not a bad little player to bring off the bench, especially if he can continue to make that kind of quick impact!

Crouching tiger hidden Maloney in that photo!

I think Maloney, potentially, could prove to be the best of our 3 Jan signings, cracking little player, great to see him on the score sheet.
jonah
great on the ball not afraid to have a crack a real bargain at 1 mil.
samtozer
Yep samtozer if we get 1 mill for hendrie will be even better.

the 'wee-man' is proving to be quite a hit with the fans !!!!!!!

who has taken over my site!!!
The Fear
I felt like a bit of an idiot at the game - I turned to my mate before the free kick and said 'that would be an ideal position for a free kick specialist but we have not had one in a long time - perhaps even have to go back to Staunton - I dont know who will hit this!!' Then up steps Maloney!!! Happy Days!!

Just another thought on the game v Man City. I am still surprised most fans boo Vassell. I can understand the 'should have stayed at a big club chants' but the 'Vassell, Vassell, whats the score??' and general booing is uncalled for. The lad does not celebrate goals when he scores against us and it is clear from what he says that he still is a Villa fan. He never asked to go or sat and got rich while running down a conract. He left because DO'L thought selling him for 2m and buying Baros for 6m would be good business!!! I am sure that he would be back in an instant (if MON wanted him that is!!!!) Would we boo Luke Moore if MON thought of selling him on for 2m to buy Bellamy or someone??

In every other game between Villa and Man City he was spured on by the booing, I think he has scored every time he has played against us....... Dont Boo Ignore you know it makes sense.

Have to 1 million % agree - Darius is a Villa fan. How can we stop this happening again. I applauded his name at City, but felt like a minority of 1 from where I was sitting. Can we influence a positive artricle in the local press before the next match and a plea, if necessary, from MON - or is it a lost cause. Always gave Villa his best, we should continue to show our appreciation in return. Ditto Dwight Yorke if he is deemed good enough for Sunderland in the Premiership.

You have to accept there's a big chav element at football games nowadays. It's unfortunate, but I too get so frustrated with the continual anti-Blues chants at home. It's OK if the chants are witty and when we actually play against them. DV was a good player for us, I liked him a lot, can't believe we sold him for 2m (more like 5-6m) - I think Davis will an interesting comparison if we let him go.

On another subject The Twins: "Djemba-Djemba has been fantastic and if there was the opportunity to keep him I'd only be too delighted to have him," said Cotterill. "He has come in and definitely added something to us. He passes it as well as anybody has in my time here."
tarzan
Well done Maloney. and Djemba-Djemba must have been good one day as he played for Man U. for got we even had him to be honest!!! UTV

Have to agree with jonah. Maloney could prove a real bargain. He looks quality- pace, skill, vision and a decent eye for goal
Geordie_Villa
Maloney will be outstanding next season. The biggest problem is picking 3 (manybe 4) from Carew, Young, Maloney, Moore, Gabby and possibly 1 other, each week. Gonna be hard to keep them all happy.

competition = good :)

Maloney should turn into a big Villa Park favourite. Fast, tricky, and always involved. I look for big things from him next season.

The lad sounds down to earth by saying he has to improve and force his way in and does not feel he has done enough to start games yet. How refreshing!
