'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Gabby backs Villa Young(ster)

Gabriel Agbonlahor, slayer of Blackburn (!), says that Ashley Young, who arrived from Watford in the January transfer window, will soon be top of the Villa pops.

Gabby explained:

'I started with Ash at Watford and saw his qualities there. I knew it would only be a matter of time before he got his chance to play in the Premiership. Ash was good for me at Watford, even though I was only there for a short amount of time. To be at the same club as him now is great.'

Adding on the official site: 'I've seen Ash play in training and he's a top quality player. I think it's just a matter of time for him to get used to the players here and then everyone will see what he can produce. I think Ash brings pace, skill, good delivery and a bit of everything really. Hopefully it's a bit like me.'

'The gaffer has shown that if you're doing well it doesn't matter how old you are, he'll keep the faith in you. So it's an exciting time for young players like me and Ash.'

Young has certainly been hampered by such a big price tag, lets hope a good pre-season and time to settle will see him on top form for us next season. Still can't quite figure where he is going to play, an attacking winger seems most likely though doesn't it?

I like what I've seen of Ashley Young so far, and am more than happy to go along with those experts a lot more adept and experienced than I who believe him to be an outstanding talent. I would imagine that the huge price tag that hangs around his neck has to put undue pressure on him, and I'm quite prepared to give him the time he needs to settle in at the club, following the first move of his career. Good luck to the lad.
