Unoial Villa News...

The award winning* Villa Times:

Haven't seen any rumours of late, I'm missing them, so I'll do what half the hacks in the world seem to do and make them up. Tottenham Hotspur Shocker: A source (hp) close to the club (I won't say which club, although I think it was a 9 iron) saw Jermain Defoe coming out (no, not like that) of a meeting in London. Meaning? The England international is almost certain to sign for Villa in the summer for two pints of larger and if Spurs push hard enough, possibly a packet of crisps. Also seen in Spain was Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, as they both live in a Villa, you only have to put two + two together to know they are also Aston bound. I think I might have had too much sugar today.

Gareth Barry says Shaun Maloney will prove to be a 'snippet at £1million.' Adding 'I think he is a bargain signing for us. Not too many people knew much about Shaun but he has impressed me in training and the little bits he's played since he has been here.

Martin O'Neill says Blackburn will be a handful and Barry says Easter is crucial. Well, it was for Jesus. Or can't I say that in this politically correct world?!!... ;-) Full article: Click Here

Sorry to be negative, but am I the only one that thinks the player of the year voting system this season is a rip off? Fans used to be able to just tick a box on the official site to vote for their player of the year choice. But now it is a text vote and that text costs £1.00 Sorry, but sod that. I think fans pay enough without this sort of rubbish, sodding hell, we'll be told this vote is run by Richard and Judy next! It is also very difficult to pick a player of the year judging by what they've produced on the pitch, early season aside. Details if you do want to vote: Click Here

Holy cow, John Carew has dealt Villa a massive blow after picking up a calf injury against Everton. He will now miss the games against Blackburn and Wigan. Liam Ridgewell is injured which matters more because Gary Cahill is a doubt as is Ashley Young. Next person who says Happy Easter to me will get a bloody nose!!! Full article: The Hulk Blows Easter

A Fear ramble, come on, you've missed them, admit it? I've come up with the solution for Villa. IF the players carry on playing for just 45 minutes a game, they should be paid half the wages. What? Seems fair to me. Can you imagine going to work and just doing half a day and then sitting at the desk the rest of the time? Yeah, actually, some of you can imagine that I'm sure?!?! Sorry though, the showing of this season - just when we thought it wouldn't get worse than last season - has frankly been pathetic and the Villa players OWE US some decent end of season performances, some blood and guts, SOME GOALS and why not throw in a good measure of BOTTLE AND DESIRE into the mix? Football isn't that hard a game, you get the ball up to the strikers (along the floor preferably) and they SHOOT the bloody ball.

Olof Mellberg has agreed that the team need to show up for both halves and give it some welly. He said: 'We have a busy period. We have some winnable games, all of the last seven games, so hopefully we can pick up enough points straight away to be safe. But we need to play well for 90 minutes to win games. It is not enough to have a poor first 45 minutes and play well for the second half. We need to be more consistent within the games. That is definitely something to think about, to try to start a little bit better in the following games.' Full article (if you haven't lost the will to live by now!) I'm sorry but what is it with Mark Lawrenson recently? He is being kind to Aston Villa and I am finding it unsettling!!!... He predicts a Villa win (1-2) but Mystic Mug
can only see a draw. Record v Blackburn, Prem: Blackburn 12 wins, Villa 9, Draws 4 At Ewood Park: Blackburn 7 wins, Villa 2, Draws 3

Charlton boss Alan Pardew says Villa aren't out of the mire yet, he said: 'We are five points off Villa and I would not be sitting too comfortably if I were them. I know that feeling and that is why we have to keep applying pressure. For sure, it is going to affect them, the bigger clubs more so. It gets to a point where the stadium becomes affected and psychologically it becomes a problem. We do not have that we have a super-positive stadium. I would suggest that without doubt, of the bottom eight clubs, our stadium is the most positive. That is an advantage.' Martin O'Neill isn't so sure: Full article: Charlton Boss - Villa In 'R' Battle

Found this in the Sutton Coldfield Observer: Former Aston Villa chairman 'Deadly' Doug Ellis will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the West Bromwich Albion Supporters Club Sutton Branch on Thursday (April 12). Ellis is likely to have many fascinating tales to tell from his years in football at the meeting, which will be held at the Plough and Harrow pub, Slade Road, Mere Green. Hmmm, unusually for me, I have no further comment to make!

Oh, and finally, the Mirror, bastion of all truths in football, say that Sheffield United have won the race for on-loan-at-Stoke Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie.

Thought for the day: 'A good friend will not come bail you out of jail.... But a true friend will be sitting next to you saying ... WE screwed up!'

Have a great Easter Weekend one and all, and as Dave Allen used to say, may your God be with you!

The place to be this very month surely has to be the West Bromwich Albion Supporters Club Sutton Branch on April 12th, when storytelling of the very best will be unleashed on those in attendance. A little bit of fact mixed with a whole lot of fiction, should make for an entertaining evening.
