Best Villa Defence Poll Results

Best Villa Defence Poll Results

Poll results for the question on what the defence should be assuming Wilfred Bouma as left back (and Delaney as injured).

Some of the comments were saying they'd have liked an option also for Aaron Hughes but to be fair, at the moment he appears 3rd choice and I thought the poll was getting a bit complicated for our simple brains as it was!

The majority with 51% voted for Olof Mellberg and Martin Laursen in the centre with Phil Bardsley at right back.

Next up came Gary Cahill (who according to everyone but was wasn't man of the match last night - te he) and Mellberg with Bardsley as right back with 17%

Then we got a split with:

Liam Ridgewell/Cahill/(Bardsley) 8%

Laursen/Cahill (Bardsley) 6%
Ridgewell/Cahill/(Mellberg) 6%
Laursen/Cahill/(Mellberg) 6%

Mellberg/Ridgewell/(Bardsley) 3%
Laursen/Ridgewell/(Mellberg) 3%

Proving? Not exactly sure to be honest, only one mans opinion on the best defensive formations count and his name is Martin O'Neill !!!!

I think mellberg has suddenly become a liability. I agree with Jon, cahill is a good player, i think cahill and ridgey should play together

thought Mellberg did well last night, seem to be in the minority though!

got to remember the pressure that is put on the defence/goalie due to the lack of strength in the midfield though.

Regardless of who should be the back 2/4, the same problem existed last night with deadball situations. I thought that was addressed to the defence after the Fulham game??! SORT IT!

Interesting to see 1 in 5 still think Ridge should be starting. Have to admit I'm one of them.

Mellberg is a good tackler, but his passing is so bad at times. I think the whole defence would benefit from a stronger goalkeeper behind them though, maybe that's why we leak so many from set pieces.

Ridge is very unlucky not to be in there. Personally though, if Martin Laursen is fit, then he should definitely start.
