Unoial Villa News...

A gossip site says that Liverpool will get David Villa of Valencia in the summer meaning Martin O'Neill will land striker Craig Bellamy.

Another rumour - totally unfounded as far as I can see - says Villa are after Baggies defender Paul McShane. How did they come to that conclusion? The Villa boss was at the Republic of Ireland match on Saturday.

Another site suggests Martin O'Neill hasn't decided whether to take Manchester United right-back Phil Bardsley permanently and that Portsmouth and Middlesborough might move for the defender.

Martin O'Neill has slated Andy Gray for his recent criticism of the Villa boss saying the Sky pundits arguments don't stack up. Full article: Andy Gray Put Back In His Boxlick Here

Martin O'Neill says Jlloyd Samuel could still get a chance. Happy Birthday by the way Jlloyd, 26 today. O'Neill explained: 'It's been a bit unfortunate really for him, because this is a season where he started off in the team, then got injured for a fairly lengthy time. Others players came in and have done OK, so it's been hard then for him to get back into the side again. I can understand that. He's a free agent. He can look around to decide his own future and his future is very much in his own hands. I've had a chat with him and a few things can happen. He could maybe even break into the team between now and the end of the season and do well enough. I've got a real open mind about it and I think Jlloyd himself has. He might think that it's time to go, but I've certainly not closed the door.'

Weekend betting preview: The Lam Chop was Delightful

Martin O'Neill says that Steve McClaren will get things right. Not sure if he had a straight face whilst saying it or not though? However, he also says that he is totally committed to Villa amid renewed rumours that McClaren will be sacked and O'Neill will be re-approached. 'Firstly: I'm absolutely and utterly committed to Aston Villa Football Club - as is the owner. We want to do something about it. Secondly: I'd like to try and win some football games. I want to win more games than we have done. Thirdly: I believe that England will definitely qualify from the group. I think they're good enough to qualify and I think the present manager will ride out the storm and be OK.' Full article: Click Here

Vital Villa asked, following weekend rumours in the press, should Villa sell Steven Davis to Reading? 38% voted no, he is a future star. 46% voted no, we need to build a squad not sell. 4% voted no, he is a good squad player. Just 2% were unsure leaving 10% saying yes, he isn't the grade for Villa.

According to Martin O'Neill, central defender Martin Laursen 'is back' and in contention for the Everton game on Monday night. Full article: Which Defender Gets Dropped?

Aston Villa are going backwards folks. Luckily only in ticket prices as they have rolled back season ticket prices to the 2005/06 prices. Full details: Aston Villa Going Backwards

Mark Delaney is still fighting to return back to fitness. He visits the world renowned American surgeon Dr Richard Steadman mid April to have his knee injury checked before being given the go-ahead to start jogging. The luckless Welsh international defender said: 'I've got my next assessment in the United States on April 16 when I hope to get the all-clear to start jogging. That's the next goal for me. That's when I will see Dr Richard Steadman and will find out how I have progressed. So far I've followed everything I've been asked to do, from 10 minutes on the bike in the morning and afternoon, to swimming and doing exercises in the pool.'

Gary Cahill made his England U21 debut earning his first international cap at the weekend. What a debut, his first cap and the first match to be played at the new Wembley Stadium! Gabby also featured, as did Ashley Young, although he only got a 2 minute run out at the end. Liam Ridgewell was an unused sub. Full article: Gary Cahill On England DebutClick Here

Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has decided to shun Nigeria and focus on playing for England. The nifty Villa youngster is also set to enter contract talks to extend his stay at Villa Park yet further. Full article: Villa striker To Focus On England

Aaron Hughes is determined to fight to regain his place in the Villa team after being sidelined since the loan arrival of Phil Bardsley from Manchester United in January. Aaron Hughes Up For Villa Fight

Thought for the day: (Off a bumper sticker) Guys... just because you have one, doesn't mean you have to be one. (and another) Jesus loves you... but everyone else thinks you are an asshole.

Guys, have you seen the jobs on offer on the main Villa site! Just shows how the development is going from strength to strength and how under-developed the last era was! UTV

Everything about the previous regime was based on the minimum possible. Hopefully we are now appointing professional people into all of the key positions, particularly on the sales/marketing side. The club is very definitely moving in the right direction, but that is no surprise when you now consider the owner/board members we have.

So Lawro has us down for a 2-0 win! What do people think? I just want us to perform, the last decent halves I can remember are the first against Sheff Utd and possibly the battling second half against Man U in the cup.

Just looked at the jobs on the website - sorry careers! Just goes to show how much Doug must have done in his 8 hours a week and also may explain why Steve Stride is moving on. The professionalism being developed now is amazing and just shows how much running a 'simple' club is moving on - at least here. Signs of great things to come.

Agree Gordonsleftboot. The club wasn't so much 'run' before, it was dragged along. There was very little true professionalism in key positions, and that was obvious to all. Interesting that the Bellamy rumours persist. Must admit that I'm very much on the side of the 'Sign Him Up' brigade. His signing would make my summer.
