Team Of 1982 To Be Honoured

The club have announced there will be a series of events to mark the 25th anniversary of the European Cup win of 82.

The official site said the weekend of celebrations will begin on Friday May 4 with a Supporters Night.

Next up will be a half time parade of the pitch at the final home game of the season against Sheffield United, led by Dennis Mortimer and the rest of the team of 82 heroes.

They will also take part in the opening ceremony of Bodymoor Heath which has seen a 10million investment.

The weekend will end with a commemorative black-tie dinner on Monday 7th May.

Not before time, this Diamond in the Crown of Villas Glorious history will now be replaced for all to see, its not surprising people are surprised we won the European Cup in 1982 the club has spent 25 years keeping it a secret.

Great news. Way overdue, but another feather in the cap of Mr Lerner and co. Hopefully Randy and his board will all be in attendance for the black tie dinner. These heroes deserve another day in the spotlight.

Great news, I can't wait to see the lads (well they were once) parade at the Sheff Utd game. Although they should parade before the game and the present team should be made to stand and watch them, show them what this great club is all about.

That is a great shout Jonah. When Ron Saunders was presented to the crowd it was before the game and he had a great ovation. Why would the club want to do something at half time when it is the only time fans get a chance to use the toilets and buy refreshments?? I thought we had learnt that lesson. It is either before the game or not at all. Hopefully somebody at the club will sort this out.

I hadn't done quite so much lateral thinking as you about it VOTH, but you are absolutely right, the more I think about it the more I think they should parade before the kick off. Like you I hope someone at the club will take that on board, perhaps a suggestion to the general on his thread is called for.

Never mind parading before the game, the way things are going they should bring their boots.

Absolutely right morky hehe. I have posted on the general's thread, suggesting that the parade be switched to before kick off.

VOTH: The general has replied already to our request to parade the team before the game, his reply reads...We will parade the 82 Team BEFORE the game...you all are right. Done!!

Good shout, can't wait for the game. Before the game is better for the parade. What a change from the dictator that was Deadly.

In the words of Crosby, Stills and Nash, Its been a long time coming. They win us the European Cup and for twenty-five years they are completely ignored. They fully deserve their place and time in the sun. It was a great night in Rotterdam, I was proud to be there, and rest assured I'll be in full voice to pay my respects to the heroes of '82. Wonder what the old boy thinks about it all?
