Petrov Happy With Villa

Stiliyan Petrov says he is delighted that he has moved to Aston Villa from Celtic and says he is 'very excited' about the future.

He told the official site speaking of this season:

'We've played quite well all season, but too many matches just haven't gone our way and that's what we need to put right.' Adding on a personal note, 'This season has been really amazing for me on a personal level and I'm glad I made the move to Aston Villa last summer. This club is definitely heading in the right direction and I'm very excited about the future.'

He also says the arrival of John 'the hulk' Carew and Ashley 'the, errm........' Young will reap rewards for now and into the coming seasons.

'John Carew and Ashley Young are playing really well together and they suit each other as an attacking pair. The fans have taken to them straight away and I think we'll see a lot more goals from them before the end of the season. We've got a team full of pace now, which is very important in a league like the Premiership, because it's very, very fast.'

'There are always areas we can improve on, but it's great that we move the ball around the pitch so quickly.'

I'd say just about every area in the team needs improving if we truly are (and I have no doubt we are) trying to get to the next level. Some of our players are good Premiership players but aren't Champions League or Uefa Cup quality surely? Certainly not top 4-5 quality anyway.

Also surprised he has said the season has been amazing for him personally, he has certainly not shown that on the pitch, apart from his great debut and a few glimpses in other matches. Hopefully he'll soon settle and do the business, the quality is there but the performances haven't been this season and at times I've forgotten he was on the pitch!

He probably means with what he has learnt from the English game. I don't think he has done bad at all. Definately room for improvement and I truly beleiie we will see the best of him next season cause without a shadow of a doubt he is a top player.

Good to read. Positive talk from Stiliyan, cleared up a few questions and doubts.

Yet another performance last night where he went missing too many times. Being one of the only few experienced players in the squad he should be leading by example.

But are the faithful happy with Petrov 9 months and the jury is stil out.

He certainly has his critics col8, which surprises me. I think he's playing as well as can be expected considering he's performing in basically a struggling side. I rate him, think he's a more than decent footballer, and believe that he'll prove his worth over the next few seasons.
