'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Boom Boom Bouma To Return

Wilfred 'boom boom shake shake da room' Bouma is looking to return for the Fulham match on Saturday when Aston Villa will actually be allowed to play a frigging game of football for the first time in three weeks and says he wants to keep up the form that has seen him re-called to the Dutch team after 18 months in the wilderness. Do they have a wilderness in Holland, I know they have Amsterdam, but that is just full of wilderbeast really!

Anyway, Bouma said:

'Getting back into the national side is a big boost because playing for your country is the highest thing you can achieve. I didn't expect to get call-up again after a year and a half out. In the back of my mind, I knew my form for Villa was good, and therefore you can always get back into the picture. Luckily for me, I was straight back in the team, and I know the coach (Marco van Basten) wanted to see if I was up for it. Hopefully I took my chance - I played quite well so I was very pleased.'

'It's good for the profile of the club, because when you have internationals in your team, it boosts morale.' Adding on the official site: 'Before I came to Villa, I hadn't played left-back for a couple of years - I was a centre-back for PSV and Holland. In fact, I played as a centre-half two weeks ago for Holland. I found that more physical - but easier, because of the way European teams play. In England, most centre-halves are six-foot plus.'

'You have to be really good in the air. I'm not bad in the air, but it's very difficult to win every header. I'm happy playing left-back for Villa - I knew I was coming here to play there, but I still think I can play as a centre-half as well, if I'm needed there. Now full-back is my spot for Villa.'

Good news indeed that Freddie will be back in the line up (surely?) at The Cottage. On recent form he has looked very impressive, finally nailing that left full back spot as his own. Yes, the week has started out on a positive note with his return to fitness.

Bouma came to us as an International class defender and finally he is back there. Great for his confidence to. I loved it when he kept shaun ****e phillips in his pocket.

No doubt, Boom Boom is villa left back, 1st choice, automatic selection if fit. Hard work has paid off and quality always comes through.
