Aaron Hughes To Be Loaned Out?

The gossip sites are suggesting that former Newcastle defender Aaron Hughes could be leaving Villa Park and heading to the Magpies enemy in Sunderland!

The 26-year-old defender has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Phil Bardsley from Manchester United so he might be loaned out with Roy Keane first in the queue.

Keane said: 'We're short of a couple of full-backs and maybe a right-sided midfielder. But the lads who have been playing have given us a chance of promotion and we're delighted about that. The squad's working very well for us at the moment. Generally, it is looking very healthy. I remember mentioning around Christmas time that we were short of bodies.'

The link to Sunderland seems a bit tenuous and as it is only on the gossip sites I can't see much substance to it, we surely need Hughes to remain as back up as he can play right across the back of defence?

I'm very hesitant about loaning any of our supposed fringe players right now. We're at an important stage of the season, where surely its a case of all hands to the pump. Injuries can still hit us, and we certainly dont want to find ourselves struggling to come up with decent cover. O.K., a european qualification place may well be beyond us, and we're surely hardly likely to get drawn into a relegation dog-fight, but lets make every effort to finish as high up the table as possible, and to do that we need our full squad of players, fit, ready, and available.

Well said glensider it was not that long ago we were playing the youngsters and the wafer thin squad argument came out. We have only brought in young, carew and maloney since then but got rid of baros, & whittingham.

Yep, agree with you both, cant rely on the always injured Delaney, Melly is no right back, so we need hughes as not just a fringe player but at present an important part of the squad. Cats can have Delaney on loan if they like, might get one or two games out of him before the end of the season. Having said that good luck Mark youv'e had a rotten time with injuries.

Keep him close. He can do a job for us and we do not have bodies enough to start loaning guys out.

Well said glensider
