Young - Villa Heading For CL

Young - Villa Heading For CL

Ashley Young says the club is now ambitious and believes Aston Villa will soon be playing Champions League Football.

The nifty former Watford player said 'Villa is a massive club that wants to be in the top six and I believe that's what's going to happen - and even play in the Champions League.'

Adding on the official site: 'I'm looking at playing in that competition and I don't believe it's just me. It's the club as a whole. If you talk to the manager, the chairman or any of the players, they've all got ambition to play in the Champions League. Hopefully that will happen as soon as possible.'

'You cannot put a date on when it's going to happen but it could come sooner than people expect. Mr Lerner has stuck to his word and shown he is willing to spend money such as on bringing in new players and the new training ground. He is looking to spend money because he wants the club to go forward.'

I hope it all comes together for us and he achieves his dream and we get a Star on our shirts. UTV

Time to stop the talking, a result against Fulham is more Vital than the wins against Watford (2 late goals) and the win against West Ham (1 goal and hanging on) Its time for Villa to restore a bit of pride in the Golden Lion they wear on their shirts, a Villa win is a must with tough fixtures coming up in March.

col8 is very right in what he say's. Lets learn to walk before we start attempting to run. The Champions League in reality is just a faraway dream right now, and there is a long, long road ahead of us before we can ever achieve that goal. We are not yet re-established as a top half premiership side, that has to be our immediate target. Our away record is not good, far from it. Recently it has been little short of disastrous. A convincing performance and three points this coming weekend needs to be the focus of our attention. Its good to read of the hopes and ambitions of our players, but deeds are what are needed right now, not talk of down the road achievements.

Agreed that we want to see the talking done on the pitch, but surely we want positive vibes from the Club and a belief from the players that they want to achieve something. We've been crying out for players with ambition and drive for years so lets not knock them when they express that, it's got us nowhere before. I’m sure they all have desire to want to change the away form and to win at Fulham and have a good run of results till the end of the season. I personally would rather they came out and said that instead of how previously Villa players would moan about how the Club was being run and slag us off when they left. If we are going to move forward and attract better players this is surely the kind of attitude we want to hear from all.

The CL is just a dream right now, but its good to hear that we have talented young players (the new generation) in our team who want to achieve that goal, and, more importantly, achieve it with Villa.

The first step to success is the belief that its possible, so now we need to move onto step2...Results! 3 points against Fulham please.

I'm with Hoss, we need the positive vibes, they aren't saying it is going to happen over night, but they are saying that things are moving in the right direction and they all have a new found belief. The new training facilities will help us attract the top players and money will be spent in the summer. Then, who knows, we might even start competing next season, Uefa as a first step maybe, but promising times. I prefer the positive stuff than the dross of years gone by. Admittedly we do need the talk on the pitch as well !!!

Teach young Ashley how to head a ball, and European football probably wont be such a distant dream.
