Stand Up Sit Down

Dear Stand Up Sit Down Members

I know a lot of you have written to your MPs asking them to support the EDM calling for a debate on safe standing areas and they in turn have written to Sports Minister, Richard Caborn. Thank you, this is much appreciated. The EDM currenty stands at 124 signatures - just 26 more needed to get to 150! If you've not already asked your MP to sign this, then please do so!

On a seperate but related issue, Mr Caborn himself claims to only have received 15 letters from supporters since last summer asking him about safe standing. This email is going to 300 of you.. let's ensure that his in tray is full of letters from supporters asking him why he won't consider our solution or why if safe standing can happen in Germany it can't happen here and why he doesn't believe in us having choice!

Please do write - your letters can make a difference. Pressure is starting to grow, the media are starting to report fans discontentment on many issues, attendences are dropping at many clubs. Has there been a better time to put pen to paper?

Write to:

The Rt Hon Richard Caborn MP
Minister for Sport
DCMS
2-4 Cockspur Street
London
SW1Y 5DH

Alas the current terracing at Villa would prevent standing returning to Villa Park, in the upper Holte one good surge of the crowd (remember them) would send dozens of Claret and Blue clad people *****sover the edge of the balcony.

Funny about the Redscouse attitude. At the Arse game on TV they had this big thing about Justice for the 96 killed at Hillsboro, due in the main to their own drunken fans yet at the same time the announcer was asking them to sit down to comply with ground regs that came in bcause of their behaviour.... and BTW no return to standing please!

Do you read the sun at all Denis_B? "Due in the main to their own drunken fans..." Admit it. You don't know what you're talking about do you?

No, I know nothing except a number of people involved in the Hillsborough enquiry! So it wasn't Redscouse supporters who forced gates to be opened and ran in causing the crush then?

Hillsbourgh is a sensitive issue and families are involved, and we have to respect that. I've been in the Kop end and they all stand, and I guess that's what creates the terrific atmosphere that we've seen especially on European cup nights. They are not hypocrites by doing this; they are only searching for answers, the truth and justice. Lets not point the finger, but in an attempt to veto this participants should ask for ministers to consider better policing and stewarding.

I think it is a very touchy subject. Some people blame several thousand ticketless fans, many drunk, turning up just prior to kick off. Some blame Police incompetence. Some a combination of the two. However this is definitely not a forum to discuss it and point fingers. What we do know, is those that were killed, were not to blame at all. Let them rest and lets move on.

Why do you want to stand up for two hours, when you can sit down and watch the game without having to jump up and down to see over a 6ft 6" bloke, or have someone *****ing down the back of you leg. Speak for yourself, I can make as much noise sitting as standing.

It is about choice morky. When you stand you can go where you want, without being retricted to a seat. I hate having to stand up sit down evertime somebody in the same row as me wants a leak. If you have a real nause next to you as a season ticket holder, you have them for the season. You can't just go and sit somewhere else especially if you are with your pals. If the bottom tier of the Holte was terraced you give fans the choice of standing up or sitting down. And yes you can make as much noise sitting as you can standing, but lets face it, nobody does. The most noise happens when fans get on their feet and really give it some. I wouldn't want to stand whilst with my daughter, but for the games that she can not attend, I would love it. I used to love going absolutely mental when the Villa scored. Lets bring back choice.

Good point, I wouldnt be against freedom of choice, I can see there are plus points to either, perhaps if it was put to a vote, this would be fair. Just because I want to sit down doesnt have to be the same for everyone.
