Maybe the suspension of Ashley Young will speed things up? NRC being linked to Spurs today and .... bugger that is about it!

Some would be glad to see him go, personally I don't think we should sell anyone! Also notice that Chelsea might be willing to show Drogba the door. Wonder if that is worth a punt?! Probably wouldn't sell to us as we are so close to them though.

NRC is a rare breed, he kicks a ball for a living and reads books! Surely this intelligent footballer would not want to leave a Villa side which is only going to get better and better to join a Tottenham team which has almost matched The Toon for splicing football and comedy over the last year or so? Thinking about the Drogba link, at first I thought that there just can't be any basis for this? Who knows? Not I. And I wasn't sure if I would really want someone who can be such a disturbing influence in the dressing room. But thinking about it, when Mourinho was at Chelsea he had a completely different attitude, and proved to be very loyal to him indeed. I can imagine that he could develop such a bond with MON, so we have nothing to fear from signing such a player, his talent is undeniable. Maybe he is just the man we need to turn us from being pretenders to the Premiership throne to actually sitting on it?

I reckon that we will make one of the highest non-Man City based deals of the window and am pretty sure it will be Darren Bent - the fact that he can score goals up on his own or with another forward shows that he would suit us. Obviously with him being young, English and with a point to prove he would O'Neill. Lets just hope the player himself would rather play for a club with major ambition than have a pay structure that would put him above our highest earner. I would imagine £10m could get him. We may have to go to 13 or include Shorey - either way we should go for it. SUrely less of a risk than Heskey, Doyle, Jones and others

Bent and gamst pedersen would do nicely. Forget Jones. Not worth more than 8M. Valencia would be awesome but if real madrid are sniffing around we've got a slim chance. Johnson also one for the future. As for Reo goin spuds, they must be having a laugh, Mon would never do something stupid like that.

The only problem with that is clubs are reluctant to let go without getting replacements. I am sure that City are not going to buy everybody on the market, or are they?

Pederson wood be good cover for ash. Bent is perfect for villa. Mon's bound to get him back to his confident best. Boro wont let Downing go, they've already said, and as for Heskey he doesnt score goals and he's too old. He's not a long term solution which is what we may need. We need a winger, a striker OF QUALITY and a L/CB. Mon needs to start looking abroad before its too late but im sure he wont let us down. I am loving the Sturridge link but he IS only 19 so is one for the future with Fonz. We surely need a more experienced head in their now for the push for the top 4.

Yeah Aspinall - bring back Ellis - let's hold a press conference and say he's got a piece of paper with names of players he is after (Kaka,Ronaldo,Arshavin) so poeple like you can be put at ease. I remember when Ellis did just this and made us a laughing stock amongst the press. Why panic - MON does things his way - if you don't like it - demand his head and you go and do the job (better still go on playing FIFA one zillion and Fottball Manager one trillion - it' so easy to get the right player in who won't disrupt a steady dressing room!). I am fed up of this every transfer window. Let him do it his way - we've come a long way under Randy and MON - we may not be ready for Champs league just yet, I'll be happy with 4th or 5th - that to me is success after all the s***T in the Ellis years. Been a fan since 1962, so I have learned to be patient when it comes to Villa - we will get there if not now - very soon even with Man Citeh with all that money. We are doing it right. Let MON get on with it quietly - why tell all and sundry who we are after!. and I'd rather trust MON's signings (no matter who they are) than yours anyday. Sorry if this offends - but the negativity is so boring.

My opinion is that we need in this window a forward, Bent for me fits the bill, a winger to really challange Milner and Young, if we could get Downing great if not the summer, and finally a defender i would look at Lescott, he can play in the centre or at left back. In the summer sell Harewood and get in a Heskey or Jones, then we would have 4 top strikers which we will need to compete in all competions. We have to trust MON we want the right players that will make us better not some one for the sake of it.

FFS! What is it with some of you people, why the impatience and down right derogatory statements about MON and Randy? Surely you've got the jist of how MON approaches transfers by now? You can virtually dismiss all the rumours and all the speculation about who we might sign and how much it is going to cost because MON is not going to give anything away, we won't know until the deal is done. He'd make one hell of a poker player I'm sure. Because the transfer market is so stagnant at the moment 99% of everything we've seen in the football media is totally made up just so they've got something to write about. We need to trust that MON is doing everything he can to sign the right players and at a financially viable price. No one knows more than him that we need to sign 2 or 3 players this period or we are going to be in trouble soon. I completely concur with what nazvfc had to say. The way our guys have gone about things is the way to do it, gradual and sustainable growth is the way forward. There are too many examples of the opposite for this not to make sense. Where are Leeds now? Man City, with all the money you could ever ask for are finding it impossible to sign quality because they are doing so poorly in the league. As Alan Partridge once said 'Evolution not Revolution'! We are on the right track, look how far we have come already in whats is really a short space of time since the new team took over. Rather than wasting all that time and effort moaning about things, use it to get behind our wonderful club. Come on supporters, start supporting! One last thing, as we are now starting to be considered as genuine contenders in the Premiership and are starting to see a lot more coverage of the Villa, and articles and fans comments being posted on the major football websites, please please please let us not descend to the level of the majority of fans of the 'Big four' by doing nothing but slate each other and give out abuse. Lets show we are above that petty bickering and down right smugness and be the team and fans that everyone loves to love! (except Small Heath of course, there is always an exception to the rule) The futures bright, the futures Claret and Blue.................

agree with Hoss the Villian, Young and Gabby (particular yound) carry heavy weights on their shoulders. N lets face it.. when they are not on form we need a plan B (B for Big) who can hold the ball up and bring them into the play. Over the past number of months Heskey has been one of the few english players to stand out in games. And thats saying something, especially when he's not scoring. Am I the only that thinks Heskey is just what we need right now? Carew is only available 50% of the time these days, and when he does play only looks 65% fit. No doubt JC is the better player but how often do we see evidence of that? Heskey has never been a prolific goalscorer but I can't see anyone else that we might get better at doing all of the other stuff big centre forwards do, such as holding the ball up, link-up play, winning stuff in the air, being a nuisance. Some of his England performances of recent years have been first class, and lets not forget the player he was when O'Neil last worked with him at Leicester. Liverpool didn't buy him for no reason. I'm actually excited he might be on his way to us, but yes I concede we definately need a true poacher up front too, Gabby looks tired (Prob from shagging) most of the time these days. And Bent would be very welcome at VP by me.

A centre half or full back cover who can also hold in midfield. Also I have championed the cause of one Mr Owen all summer and window. Would lov-it if he came to us in this window (unlikely) or come season end. I do hope also that certain players (Barry) can commit long term and keep the faith that Sir Martin has in them. How likely is it that I will get tickets for the game - is it likely to sell out before going on general sale? Is it worth taking the risk and getting cheap flights and hotel booked?? Also, at the moment it is a 3pm on Saturday game - how likely is it to move from that date?? Gotta say - hearing Merson and Dublin say that, take Man Utd away we would be in with as good a shout as anyone for the league - feels REALLY good. BUT this is the best chance we will ever get and I still think we just need that one top top top drawer signing to make it into the Champions League and who knows maybe in 2nd or 3rd and therefore straight into the group stage. I just think an Arshavin or similar quality player would be worth the risk. He may take time to settle and may be slow to start like Modric etc. but there is always that class player who will come in and make something great happen. If he looks like "doing an Asprilla" and unsettles the team just take him off and go back to our normal squad. I think this season, more than any other, it is worth the risk. Lets really press on!!!! At least then we would have better options on the bench - lets be honest if we were struggling last night we had the likes of Salifou, Osbourne, Harewood etc to call on - no disrespect - we just need one more class act to make it I think!!

Interesting comment on Vital Arsenal

Villa have spent £4million on Heskey when they could have had him for free in the summer. Why because its a starement of intent on where they want to be next season, on the face of it its a waste of £4million but the reality is its a great bit of business when your trying to push a club forwards. Yes, agree 26.05.82 but say we were after Micah Richards, Michael Johnson and Sturridge (who I think is a bang on 100% for us in the summer). Man City don't need the money so could have just re-buffed any offers.

Hope we don't look back on this as a missed opportunity, just not sure who/what we could have got. If we were 10th or below, I'd be far more p*ssed off and did really want to see a WOW player, but maybe we just couldn't get what we wanted? Baffling maybe, frustrating defo but maybe more so for MON and the board? Being in the top four just keeps me more relaxed, just got to pray that JC, Heskey, Gabby along with the good team behind them can do the business. If we finish in the top 4 at the end of the season, surely THEN we'll see a great influx and will find it far easier to attract some 'big names' Going to be an interesting run in until the end of the season.

I honestly don't know if I'm just losing my anger as I get older or just thrilled and excited at the fact the politics that set Villa backwards for so long are over. I'm just loving these days and although I don't fully understand HOW O'Neill is doing it, he seems to be doing it! Long may that continue! lol

Ok JF – still think it was a little naive if we were after the Citeh players, anyone would of told MON that they didn’t need the cash and it wasn’t going to happen, but we still needed to add to the squad so trying to bring in Sturridge, Richards and Johnson should have been the B plan as it was unlikely to happen – where was the A plan? OK – OK end of negativity from me – UP MON – UP RANDY and UP THE MIGHTY VILLA – COME ON!!!!!

I told you lot to stop getting excited about finishing in the top 4. Forget it. Surely years of supporting Villa has taught you to expect dissapointment. I've succumed to this and I never expect anything other than a total Villa fu*k up!

Piperuk you must be a bluenose in disguise or the idiot that was booing MON and the team on saturday, very defeatest and downbeat. look at the table, the talent on the pitch, the stability of the club etc etc. did you want him to buy any old rubbish just for the sake of it? things are great for us and if we get behind the club it can only get better.UTV

to be honest I have no idea how we have the nerve to question MON, jesus look where we are, every transfer window we moan, and every time he proves us wrong, and I for one think hell do it again, lets wait till summer and see what happens.

I cannot believe some villa supporters, every transfer window all they can do is complain and actually have the nerve to question one of the leagues great managers, will you ever be happy, every year we improve, every year we get compared to the likes of spurs, who spend fortunes, and all they do is go round in circles making no improvement. As for the likes of piperuk, why bother with a attitude like that you should jump ship and get yourself a season ticket at st andrews, they will meet your low expectations...

lets move on - Mr FEAR you can now blow the final whistle on this quite ordinary match for all teams involved. I have to laugh at Spurs tho.

Players should never return to old Clubs, the expectation from the fans is always greater than before and gets to the player.

Just a footnote to answer my critics. I am 100% Villa, I have a season ticket for the North Stand and I am a realist. We are Aston Villa. We do not play in the Champions League. We do not win stuff. We always blow it. I do not have any false hopes. The team has broken my heart to many times. End of.

Pier - so you do boo then.....At one time or another Villa have let everyone down....that is b4 Lerner/MON. This is the reason we keep coming back ... it's called Loyalty, Hope for better times - we are sitting in the top 4 in Febuary whilst 3 years ago we were staring at the abiss. If this doesn't inspire you then you might as well burn your season ticket and take up watching crouqet.

piperUK, glass always half empty for you then! Or should i say what fudging glass!! The club doesn't need your negativity and nor does this forum. There has been a sense of achievement thus far and everyone can see that we are holding our own in the top four. We even have the nickname "thriller Villa"! I am very proud to support this Villa team and the best is still yet to come. Have faith for a change. Next you'll be saying that father christmas isn't real and how sad you are:p
