The January Transfer Thread 2009 - Part 2

Ok, the transfer thread is off to a spiffing start with over 340 comments so far, unfortunately the transfer window itself isn't quite so active yet for Villa!

Maybe Part Two will see more in's to Villa Park?

So if you hear a rumour, have a major wish, see some gossip that I've missed in the articles or just want to pass the time of day to save you going mad, this is the place for it.

Martin O'Neill... over to you!

Wayne Routledge to QPR (undisclosed)

Arsenio Halfhuid from Excelsior.

Maybe the suspension of Ashley Young will speed things up? NRC being linked to Spurs today and .... bugger that is about it!

Spuds want Reo...No way, who do they think they are?!
18/01/2009 11:44:00
Some would be glad to see him go, personally I don't think we should sell anyone! Also notice that Chelsea might be willing to show Drogba the door. Wonder if that is worth a punt?! Probably wouldn't sell to us as we are so close to them though.

NRC is a rare breed, he kicks a ball for a living and reads books! Surely this intelligent footballer would not want to leave a Villa side which is only going to get better and better to join a Tottenham team which has almost matched The Toon for splicing football and comedy over the last year or so? Thinking about the Drogba link, at first I thought that there just can't be any basis for this? Who knows? Not I. And I wasn't sure if I would really want someone who can be such a disturbing influence in the dressing room. But thinking about it, when Mourinho was at Chelsea he had a completely different attitude, and proved to be very loyal to him indeed. I can imagine that he could develop such a bond with MON, so we have nothing to fear from signing such a player, his talent is undeniable. Maybe he is just the man we need to turn us from being pretenders to the Premiership throne to actually sitting on it?

I reckon that we will make one of the highest non-Man City based deals of the window and am pretty sure it will be Darren Bent - the fact that he can score goals up on his own or with another forward shows that he would suit us. Obviously with him being young, English and with a point to prove he would O'Neill. Lets just hope the player himself would rather play for a club with major ambition than have a pay structure that would put him above our highest earner. I would imagine £10m could get him. We may have to go to 13 or include Shorey - either way we should go for it. SUrely less of a risk than Heskey, Doyle, Jones and others
18/01/2009 12:49:00
it is really quient on the transfer front. hopefully we can sign darren bent this week form tottenham. we need a striker as soon as posible.
18/01/2009 13:23:00
Bent and gamst pedersen would do nicely. Forget Jones. Not worth more than 8M. Valencia would be awesome but if real madrid are sniffing around we've got a slim chance. Johnson also one for the future. As for Reo goin spuds, they must be having a laugh, Mon would never do something stupid like that.
18/01/2009 14:22:00
why don't we ave a punt on kightly from wolves?
18/01/2009 17:14:00
We won't get Bent as Harry has said he won't sell anyone. Valencia would be cool and I've wanted him since last season. NRC is not going to Spurzzzzz as they are in for Palacios. Wolves will not sell Kightly.
18/01/2009 21:51:00
Johnson not a bad idea. Cisse? I know he acts the *****er but he is a dangerous striker. Mebbe Kris Boyd from Gers as reserve, 72 goals in 97 appearances, and only 3/4mil + also he didn't like the bluenoses!
