City's Billions to Gazump us for Wilson and Craig?

Manchester City have already shown the world their intent to bring the very best and show money is absolutely no object as they look to dominate world football.

The ramifications of the possible signing of Kaka have yet to het the game, as I'm sure it will, much to the detriment of the game, with every other deal adding an extra nought to the fee of their very average players...

As City now look to throw their money towards Upton Park and the JJB to tempt Wilson Palacios and Craig Bellamy to Manchester, it could well be that Harry misses out on two of his major targets as we are cast aside by City`s bottomless pit of cash..

Personally I still think that Bellamy will sign for Spurs, for three very good reasons.

1: He has already started his desire to remain in London with his family.

2: Money isn`t his main Priority so he is looking for personal over financial issues.

3: He wants to play football in a stable environment, not be downgraded for a £50 million Albanian in six months..

I think the Palacios deal could be different, he is already in the North West, so logistically it is an easy move. At this time Manchester ride is far more exciting than the one currently taking place anywhere else in football, lots will fall off, but it could be one hell of a journey..

At 24 Palacios has time to gamble. Sign for big money today and see what happens. Players have so much control today and if he wants out, he can always move on with a bank balance far bigger than when he joined and with reputation intact.

It may well be that Harry still gets both players, or neither, but I have a strong feeling that we will get one and not the other and although I rate both, I think we will end up with the one we need least.

That is the Tottenham way after all aint it??

lets hope citeh do gazump us for bellamy, id be mortified if he joined. Yes my thoughts are no of footballing reasons, I dont like hi attitude and think itd be wrong for the club. As for palacios, I agree Ox, he's more likely to pick citeh over us at this time I fear ane he's the type of player we really really need right now.

The time we take pratting about over our transfer deals its no wonder. We have been "on the verge" of completing the deal for Palacios for 3 days. Its the same old Levy caution and reluctance to play ball, or the asking price, or HP arrangements, we deserve all we get, he justs prats about. There are clubs who express and interest, make a realistic bid, get it accepted, madical done, personal terms, all over in 48hrs, a la Aston Villa, we just prat about until somebody else comes in, it happens time and time and time again. Levys idea of urgent is, within this financial year.
Frank
I'd be very happy to have both players. Word has it that Spam just wont let Bellers join us but we shall see. Lets face it we wont win any bidding wars with citeh so it may well be that Palacios goes there - but not sure why they want both Palacios and De Jong - it could still be manu or even the goons that are interested in him or just bargaining tactics by Wigan. I think if we have offered about 14m for Palacios, thats ample for a still relatively inexperienced player who has produced at one club. I would be disappointed if we lost Palacios because our reported 14m offer wasnt really one - ie spread out over a long time and with all sorts of strings attached. I really hope we have some other irons in the fire and we arent relying on these.

I'd happily drive Bellamy to City if he needs a lift! If Harry wastes 12 million on an injury proned 29 yearold with a bad attitude i for one will be gutted. Shame about the other guy tho as he looks to be just what we've been missing for years.

Agree with you Ox but it is verging on the ridiculous at this stage Levy's reluctance to get the deal done trying to squeeze more out of it is becoming a national joke. We really needed to have this done and dusted 2 days ago!!!!!!!!!

Do you really think that Spurs have been slow in completing the deal for Palacios. Wigan announced that we had made a bid which invited other clubs from stepping in. With the money that Man City have, and Steve Bruce just mentioning that the deal was almost done and that he was goning to be one of the best midfield players in the world in a few years, I think Wigan have been quite clever, unfortunately for us.

think palacios will go to city: he is already settled in the area and they will probably pay him what ever he asks. i hope to god that bellamy goes too - i simply don't understand why redknapp wants him. i thought we were after a 'target man', a DM and a L winger. £14 on a player who we don't need (or want) is curious/dangerous

I read recently that Palacios is looking for a new home as his extended family are coming over here to set up a 'big' family home. So talk of him being settled up there is not quite right. BUT when all is said and done if we paid 15million for him I think that is way way over his value, as for Bells well anything north of 5 million for him is a waste of money. BOTTOM line if need these two to avoid relegation then we are in unbelievably bad shape, they are both average and at 30mill for the pair I say go to City and warm their bench and spend your millions and let us get on with the job at hand -

I would have signed bellamy before we signed defoe...not sure how they fit in together when you look at the other we have such as modric/bentley/dos santos...Palacios..seems a good player but similar to Zokora and is he 14 mill better than Zok? assuming we dont sell Zok. This is all confusing but i will say something loud and clear...are we allowing our league to be taken over by Arabs? I hear Roman wants to sell Chelsea to Saudi? what next the country? our club is shagged, soon the prem will be shagged followed by the country...where will this stop...money is NOT everything...lets get the fans back in at least part control of what happens to our game!!

A footnote, this damn transfer window is like a farce. Harry is spending every waking moment trying to do deals. The shape of the side at Wigan was an interesting idea but they had not put the time in on the training ground to perfect it. Too often they seemed unaware of what to do. This window is distracting the whole club. I for one will be glad when its Feb and they can all get on with the job

Don't want Bellamy - wrong type of striker IMO. Are we going to try and set a record for shortest front line in the Prem? Would be fairly gutted if Palacios goes to City, although they do seem to get linked with everyone so maybe Bruce is mentioning them to push the price up? Does anyone have any news on Appiah, word was on Wednesday he had 48 hours to decide whether to join us or us whether to sign him but in true Spurs style, still no news. Typical.

Chris, if we sign Appiah and keep Zokora we will be a bit bare when the african nations cup comes around, assuming we sell another to make way...not sure we should be haning on for a guy, who certainly will want a huge salary, have a big ego and only 1 knee....

It would be an improvement Stiles so I would go for him regardless of whether we get Palacios or not. At the moment I don't give a damn about the African Nations, just staying in the Prem. Hopefully either of them would be to replace Zokora, if we sign Appiah, I would imagine it is because Harry has decided to take a risk on him so the knee would be OK I imagine.

As usual, it is a case of when things go wrong the so called Spurs fans turn on Levy even though they do NOT have a clue as to what is going on.....for anybody that is interested in the truth then the deal with Wilson was done and the fee (and payment arrangements) were all agreed as were the players terms.....does anybody really believe that it was Levy and not Wheelan who contacted other clubs to try and get a better price? Or I suppose it was Levy and not Wilson’s agent who contacted other clubs and told them what the deal was?....Of course Levy wants to drag things out and put our PL life into jeopardy, after all it is only £33 million of his kid’s inheritance that he stands to lose.....Who says that Levy drags out negotiations to try and get a million off here and there??? Papers like the Daily Mail and know nothing internet posters. Of course he has to negotiate payment terms because if he did not then we could NOT afford to participate in the transfer market as much as we do. We do NOT have a bottomless pit of money – as of the end of last June we were owed over £15 million in outstanding transfer fees and WE OWED over £16 million....Do you all think that we got all the money for Berbatov and Keane in one hit? So come on then all you Masters of the Universe, how much did we get from those 2 sales and how much is left to pay??? I did not see many people complaining about the speed of Defoe’s transfer – Defoe wanted to join and Pompey wanted to sell – not every transfer is like that but let’s blame Levy for that too.....It is all very well having an opinion but when it comes to facts about how THFC is run then if you do not know then try stop posting crap which makes us out to be bigger Muppets than we are.

LAZ60 To be fair the way the transfer market is now and the way the club has been run in the past are completely different things. I agree levy although spending lots of money has made mistakes which have hampered us but on this certain transfer window with man city having billions we can compete with them for the same players, this is not levy's fault.

Laz, I assume you feel your words of wisdm carry more gravitas when written in CAPS, keep it up and I will delete them all... As for The Levy is a clown comments, you really have no idea of how a deal works do you.. If we assume the clubs have agreed a deal, there is still the small matter of player and new club agreeing terms and the plaer actually preferring us over other suiters, clearly as GIK wrote, his agent and/or dave Whelan may also be looking for a better deal and Man U have been long term admirers and City have money to burn, so what do either have to lose bu stretching out the deal in the hope of attracting an auction for his services.. Blaming Levy here is simply a case of passing blame, when the reality is that there may yet be no blame to pass...

very touchy GIK u are. Levy is well known to haggle over deals Wigan had a price, meet it and get it done but as Frank says he always has to haggle and get the the last £1 out of every club. Arsahvin, Young, Parker, Duff..we always lose out and then we pay ott for Bent, Bentley, Luka and Pav. I hate city more than any other club already and I will grace the day hughes gets the boot in the summer.

michael.thfc, Harry is not having anything to do with doing deals. After getting rid of the DOF role, what have we got, Daniel Levy, DOF. The problem is he knows less about football, and footballers, than Commolli, if thats possible. What he does know about is exercising his ego, pratting about for days doing something that should take hours, and upsetting every club in the league, so that they are reluctant to do business with THFC, and they will all have a wry smile, and send each other cryptic e-mails, when his pratting about gets us relegated.

cockeril - seeing how you always have the answers - who else would you have REALISTICLY got in then? At least Defoe is a goal scorer - and he loves the club - he didnt want to go in the first place and it was Keane who was keeping him out of the team - just like when Defoe was keeping Keane out the team when we was BANGING goals in for fun - its called form - I would have him over Bent Pav and Campbell all day long so your comment that NO ONE wanted Defoe back is a bit...well....wrong!! And he wasn't over priced - we payed less than £10mil for him

Cockeril you talk a load of crap. They continually raised the price for Arshavin each time a deal was nearly agreed, as was stated at the time. The prices being talked about then were about double what hes apparently moving to arsenal for. And Frank what the hell do you know about how the transfer system works?? When Harry joined he said that he made all the decisions on players...also duff would have been a great purchase, hes really set the world alight at newcastle. Provided we actually stay up this credit crunch might not be such a bad thing for spurs as were one of the few clubs which isnt badly run and in loads of debt, and that is thanks to Levy. If you dont negotiate then you will continually pay top prices. It also means that you have to say no to demands sometimes: if a players not worth it then hes not worth it.

Arshavin was always quoted as being priced at 20 million plus so we offer 13 million get a life, pay up or move on. we got screwed up with Keane and Berba leaving and getting a slap on the face of having F/C to nurture for Utd yeah way to go Levy again..top man! The buck stops with Levy I have said it all along. He fired Jol he hired DC he hired Ramos and now we are relegation fodder with Arry. When will you sorry bunch realise?

We have lost to WBA, Wigan and drew with Fulham and Pompey...worried? yes very worried. Levy you da man, 2 x 5th to bottom of the league...yeah we should be grateful we have Levy in charge. I don`t give a toss about Levy`s child's inheritance fund being used in transfers I am sure he will still have all the luxuries in life. THFC is all i care about!

Its great Man City have come in for Bellamy and rumour has it he has now been persuaded of the benefits of moving to the NorthWest. Phew!!. As for Palacios, we may lose him to Man City, but it is almost certain that Michael Johnson will be available. He would be a ready made midfield leader who could be paired with or even replace Jenas, and is a player rated by Moyes, Benetiz and Wenger. If he can overcome his slight injury concerns in the same way Woodgate has since joining us, we will get a player the equal of Palacios for maybe £5m-£7m less.

cockeril - you are proving that you are a class know nothing act - but always after the event we hear from you "As I said all along" which is always totally opposite from the crap that you spout. so, let's see what top notch info you have given us in your last posts - Defoe at £14 million? Where did you get that figure? And you are so far out with what happened with Arshavin that it is laughable - Daily Mail reader perhaps? I bought the majority of my shares at flotation so it has to a long way down yet for me to make a loss - it was a nice cheque through my letter box yesterday though for the dividend.

Very pleased for you GIK, the dividend for the rest of Spurs supporters may well be watching champoinship football next year, thanks to your heroe Levys astute management of this once great football club. I bet Billy Nicholson is turning in his grave, at what this set of tossers, from Irvine Scholar onwards, have done to this club and there is no sign of improvement. Incidently not a football man amongst them.

Incidently I see Lewis is the 4th richest club owner with £2.5 billion, perhaps we could and should be competing with the big boys in the transfer market after all.

Frank, Levy is no hero of mine but I will stand up for the club and how it is run and it is NOT run for the profit of selling our best players. Levy put his money where his mouth is so he stands and falls by his mistakes - his biggest mistake was putting too much trust in Comolli but it was not Levy who picks the players or the tactics or hides in matches or act like Prima Donnas when they should be fighting for the club. Change Levy tomorrow and do you think that anything will change on the pitch? The same squad of players went on a great run when Harry first came in so they can do it - is that down to Levy?

It was a lucky run and we won games when playing badly don`t judge on 5-7 games but atleast 20 odd games and the stats are appalling.

Levy hires and fires so yes it is Levy`s fault and if we win he should get credit. His record is not good and he only stumbled across one of our most successful managers in our EPL history by chance. Levy out!

Cockeril - I have never been a fan of Comolli but I have always been a strong fan of the SD role at the club so stop making things up as you go along. I have always had a personal dislike of Comolli and I stated why that was. You are the one that changes to suit the moment as you were shouting your mouth off at how wonderful Ramos was going to be. I am never going to slate Levy because I know how much effort he has put in and how successful he has been on the business side of things.

If City are in all we can do is walk away and spend our time more usefully trying to win games...or buy players that might come. Anyway hoep City offer Bellamy his own tent, moves around so much he really needs one

ForeverSpurs, why should we accept that we have to walk away, will Wilson Palacios cost £2.5Billion, thats what Lewis is worth, let him get his hand down, or sell the club to someone who will. We are not skint, we are not Pompey, Hull, Wigan etc and we dont want to concede so easily. I wonder on a % basis whether our ownewrs have put as much of their own money in as the likes of Steve Gibson at Middlesboro.

I think people are forgetting that man city have also bid for Nigel De Jong. He is a player that is very much like Palacious. Do you really think that they will sign both of them? as i dont so i think we still have a chance of getting him. All we need to do is point out these facts and let him know he will be playing regular first team football.

GIK, i respect the information you pass on to us as you are clearly a smart guy and know what you are talking about. You also must have some form of inside knowledge so i thank you for passing it onto us. Unfortunately some people are very short sighted and think that the way people are playing is down to DL. I firmly believe that we would be far worse off now without DL. He is moving the club forwards with a proposed new stadium and a new training center. That doesn't come cheap unfortunately as well as having us as the second biggest spenders in the PL on transfers. Second only to Chelsea. Think that is pretty impressive for a team that is so close to the relegation zone and never played in the CL. Whenever a manager has asked for a player DL has tried his hardest to get them. The players are to blame for our current plight and that is where i firmly place the blame.

My understanding is that there has been a gentlemans agreement. We will step down our pursuit of Bellamy and Citeh will step down their pursuit of Palacios. If this rumour is the case it suits me down to the ground.

It is reported that the stumbling block to the Palacios deal after agreeing a fee etc was that Levy wanted to pay the fee over 4 years, yes four years. It is no wonder Dave Whelan wasnt struck with that and probably tried to get another club involved, Man City. I have also seen as Bobdemon says the news re an agreement between us and City. It is now reported in several papers that he has now agreed to a more sensible structure and that the player is coming down to London tomorrow for talks. Mind you we maybe a long way off yet, as we Spurs supporters know only too well, we are masters at "soap opera" transfer deals. There is still plenty of time for it to go tits up, plenty have in the past.

Incidently, it is also widely reported that Wenger is to sign Arshavin for a fee, wait for it, of £12-£15M, whats happened to the £20m+ that they were allegedly quoting us, or are Zenit St Petersberg yet another club somewhat *****ed off with Mr. Levys transfer techniques, and by quoting that price they were saying, in effect, that they no longer wanted to deal with Spurs.
