Quite press day today. The main focus seems to be in the Daily Mirror and the Daily Mail. Both have expanded on last weeks rumour that we are after Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones.
Both papers say that the Trinidad & Tobago international striker is our main target and quote around £12million.
They claim that after missing out on Jermain Defoe, Craig Bellamy, Roque Santa Cruz and Emile Heskey, Jones is our focus. Heskey is apparently staying at Wigan until the summer when he can move on a free, with papers stating he has a pre-contract with Liverpool. Not sure how we've missed out on Bellamy or Santa Cruz though? Neither player have moved anywhere despite reported bids from Man City which according to the press have been turned down. Some reports are suggesting that Sam Allardyce would want around £20million for Santa Cruz in order to persuade him to let go of the player who is already on record as wanting out. Bit much that though isn't it?
The Mail says that Villa's main scout Ian Storey-Moore was at the Sunderland v Middlesbrough game at the weekend. Well there you go then, conclusive proof!
Apparently Sunderland don't want to sell the star and have already rebuffed an approach from Chelsea. Again, not sure on that one as I read that Chelsea weren't in the market to buy anyone this January.
Not sure he would be worth £12million would he? I don't know much about the player but he has just 5 premiership goals + 1 in both the FA Cup and League Cup.
There are a few repeats of the rumour that Newcastle want Nicky Shorey who appears to be surplus to requirements at Villa just 6 months after moving from Reading and would be prepared to use Charles N'Zogbia as part of the deal.
The Manchester Evening News, amongst others, has the story that Bolton manager Gary Megson is interested in signing Villa miss-fit Marlon Harewood
