'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Villa Get That Manchester United Feeling?

That Manchester United Feeling.

There has been a lot said on this site and others, about the way we have won our past four or five games. Mr. Mowbray's recent comments (Click Here) about us 'not interested in playing football' are ludicrous and reflect what must be a frustrating time for the boys from Sandwell.

A lot of fans and pundits admit that villa have been somewhat fortunate in getting recent wins against Hull, West Ham and to some extent, the Baggies; (Although statistically we created far more chances.)

I agree that we have not been at our free flowing best in the past few games, however we have still come away with victories. This is what we have been lacking in previous seasons. Oppositions have worked us out yet we still win the game of football, home or away. This is testament to MON and even more so to the players, who do not give the opposition a second's rest.

The title of the article sums up my feelings on the matter. If Manchester United had been in the form that we have been in, pundits would be all over it stating that it's championship form. The old cliché that 'You're not at your best, but still winning games,' would be banded about the papers. Because it's Villa, pundits are calling us lucky and can't seem to fathom where the wins are coming from and more importantly seem to be calling time on our run.

Do not misinterpret this article, we aren't going to win the title this year. We don't have the depth of squad to compete on a European front as well as a league and domestic cup. But we're turning into what United (love them or loathe them) have been doing under Ferguson for the last ten years and that's winning, whether we deserve to or not. This is what we've been waiting for, a winning Villa side. Crowds upwards of 37,000 every week say that our football isn't garbage, it's some of the best in the league. I wouldn't change it for anything.

I am sick of people saying that its only luck that has Villa forth in the table. Just yesterday I read a blog from Arsenal fans saying we have been only lucky, with own goals, refs decisions (and they named the decision against hull as an example IT WAS THE RIGHT DECISION). We have been a bit lucky, BUT We have been working very hard in every game to keep the defence solid and we have taken our chances. The arsenal fans on that blog even said that they were robbed by us this season, hang on the hit the woodwork 3 times and in the second half their defence made silly mistakes, thats just bad defending. In fact the second goal against West Brom was not luck, just bad keeping and as we know from last season Carson is always likley to mess up. In all I say we are so high in the table from hard work. Also own goals dont just hit players in the back of the head and go in, most are from a defence put under heavy pressure.

Luck is winning the lottery. In the case of football, you make your own luck, similarly to having an educated guess rather than just wildly stabbing in the dark.

Well said Tallaght. I think I read the same gooners blog, just can't seem to handle the fact they're being given more than a run for their money.

I dont really understand what the issue is of own goals surely they are only lucky if none of your players have touched the ball unless their own player puts it in the net on purpose because own goals usually occur from pressure and it doesnt have to be sustained pressure. And as for the comments coming from the baggies how stupid a comment surely the aim is to win if you play nice and loose and are happy doing that then i would say you shouldnt be playing professional football stick to the parks. I am not confident we will get 4th but we will be in the mix along with everton

Excellent article Bones_Villan. Plus some very good points made above. It is annoying that the likes of ManUre are a law to their own, in that the media never refer to them as being 'lucky'. The Guardian hit the spot this morning, stating: 'Aston Villa are starting to aquire a little of the sheen of a top-4 side. At times on Saturday, there was an air of EFFORTLESS SUPERIORITY" Be afraid gooners, be very afraid.

I am still hoping for a uefa cup place this season. But so far we deserve our place in the league.

We have lacked this ability to win games when not playing well before but now we seem to have it,All the top sides do it and arsenal not being able to do it is why they have slipped. This is the difference between the top 4 and the rest,The others have to be at full stretch to win the top 4 don`t.And as we get more and more success you can expect more mud slung at us out of jealousy,It wasn`t happening when we were mid table.

have you noticed on programes now its not the big 4 anymore its the big 3! that winds me up the most! if arsenal were where we are it would be the big 4 again...why can we not be in the big 4?!?! i thought being 4th in the league would constitute that! im not content on finishing 4th anyway VILLA FOR THE TITLE haha

http://www.premierleague.com/page/FormGuide - admittedly it looked more impressive before the Man U v Chelsea game, but the league table and this form guide do not lie. Yes we've been a bit lucky on occasion but winners make their own luck, luck doesn't make sandwiches. Or something. UTV

We are fourth in the premiership at this stage of the campaign, because we deserve to be. Luck plays no part in it. We will continue our progress and development on the strength of how we perform from here on in until May, and on the back of what team strengthening MON is able, or not able to do, during this transfer window.

Other supporters are turning their angst on the club because quite obviously the green eyed monster is raising his head. They are getting fed up of the media attention and praise that we are attracting.

I would say we`ve been unlucky in quite a few games to be honest, i think we could have had more points, the Hull game was pants and both teams were poor but over the whole season so far i think lucks been against us more than for us.

How funny that Arsenal fans are getting so angry, frustrated and jealous. Every so called "Own Goal" that we've had scored for us this season has come about from excellent crosses and pressure from our forwards, usually Young's crosses. In most cases Gabby (or someone else) has been there ready to pounce but a defender has beat him to it and put it in the net (against Arsenal at The Emirates and against Hull). The fact that Gabby's goal on Saturday has been given as an OG to Scottt Carson is a p!$$ take. a) There were no other Villa players in the box therefore it was a shot not a cross. b) It WAS on target before Scott Carson got in the way. c) IMO a shot somehow deflected in by the goalkeeper should NEVER be given as an OG against the keeper. His job is to stop the ball going in. If the keeper gets any kind of touch before it crosses the line the goal, IMO should ALWAYS be given to the last player who touched the ball BEFORE the keeper.

Sorry guys don't agree that the shot was on target. It was a shot definitley as no one else was in the box but if Carson had missed it, it was out for a throw in on the other side of the pitch!!

I don't care who scored, it could've gone in off the ref for all I care. The main thing was that it was the winning goal, so thanks Scott. Also thanks, 'lazy' Gabby.
