'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ashley Going Nowhere

It's one thing Martin O'Neill speaking about the supposed interest from Real Madrid, but does it sound like Ash would be interested himself?

Speaking to the Daily Mail, our flying winger explained how happy he is at the club and the reasoning behind his early contract extension:

'The other two boys had signed, John Carew and Gabby Agbonlahor.

'You can just tell that the club is evolving and moving in the right direction.

'I'm playing week in, week out. I might not get that elsewhere. The fact is I'm just delighted that I'm here. The manager and chairman have said that the club will kick on. And I believe it will.

'The gaffer came to me and asked me about a new deal, but he didn't have to do that. I had two years left. They didn't need to come to me.

'And he is one of the top managers in the Premier League, if not the world. He was one of the main reasons I joined the club. I want to repay him.'

Doesn't sound like a player who would be at pains to leave the club does it, regardless of who comes knocking.

Folks, please no text talk on the site, us old grumpies really don't like it. Wish everyone could speak proper like wot I do (sic) !!!
The Fear
Hear! Hear! Mr Fear. Us oldies were born and brought up to speak and digest the Queens English. Any deviation towards modern-day speak and we self-destruct, or have to turn to our off-spring to translate. As for our wing-wonder, well said that man. Just hope and trust that it isn't the players alternative of the boardroom 'vote of confidence'.

That really is an excellent article by Neil Moxley. I loved the comments concerning John Robertson, he of the most sweet of left pegs. Moxley writes:- "I mention that 'Robbo' was 'the man' during his day; that he knows a thing or two about wing-play. Indeed, during a press game two years ago, 19 outfield players went the wrong way when the Scot dropped his shoulder. 'Is he a legend?' asks Young, straight-faced. 'He tells me he is - almost every day. Steve Walford's got a better left foot, though.' His face breaks into a mischievous grin, confident that it will be printed - and commented on, probably by O'Neill, certainly by assistant coach Walford, and definitely by Robertson.
