'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Dutch Starlet Signed By Villa UPDATED

Skysports.com have a report claiming that Villa have signed Dutch starlet Arsenio Halfhuid from Excelsior.

They got the Mathew Upson report wrong earlier but I must admit are usually fairly accurate, although I never truly believe signings until a) they are announced on the official site b) on the shirt in pitch, no hang on, on the pitch in the shirt c) no, point b was the last point I had to make.

The 17-year-old defender has signed on a three year deal for an undisclosed fee and will join the youth set up.

His agent, Dan Fletcher told Sky Sports News:

'Arsenio's thrilled to be at such a great club, it's all happened so quickly for him, but that's the way football is sometimes. He's signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at Villa. A lot of Dutch clubs are wondering how they've missed Arsenio. Credit to Aston Villa for keeping their interest in him quiet and making their move so quickly.'

Now confirmed on the official site so done deal!

Another one for our youth team
Villan57
I think it's great that we are looking at for the future players even when we are in desperate need of a striker/full back and a creative midfielder, surely if we have time to sign youngsters and looking for youngsters in Holland then surely MON already knows what players he wants to sign for this season and has already got a list drawn up and it's going through the process.....

I'm loving this quote "Credit to Aston Villa for keeping their interest in him quiet and making their move so quickly." Harry Rednapp take note.

Strange that this hasn't been announced on the villa site. I guess it's not that big a story...compared to the one later today about .
olafthegreat
The new Routledge?
Saurat
another Eric Lichaj, if you know him and that we even have him
AussieVilla
Talking of superb prospects, what did ever happen to the infamous Bellon Brothers?
young_jonah
"I guess it's not that big a story...compared to the one later today about ." - he forgot the last 2 words, which were "Thierry Henry" :)
ExpatVillaShirt
It is now on the O/S but as you say only a few lines as it isn't a big story. As for YJ's question the Bellon brothers left last year. Damian went to FC Vaduz (Liectenstein's top and probably only club) and Yago went back to Switzerland to FC Wil (Salifou's old club).
pongo wearing
Ah so this lad is likely to return to Holland in a couple of years then.......
young_jonah
Saurat, let's hope this isn't the next Routledge OR another Salifou (aka The Togolese Zidane), but you never know, he could be the next Mellberg.
Villan-in-Cyprus
Hang on we are being very hard on some of the "young talent" signed over the years. Lichaj, Steber and Yago (who I thought was still at VP) to name but a few are all still only 16 and 17. Not every good player manages to break into the first team by the time they are 18. Steber I heard was wanted by Arsenal in the summer and MON would not sell him (AGAIN THIS WAS SOMETHING I READ MAY NOT BE TRUE), I say give the young lads a couple more years before you start to slag them.
Tallaght Villan
Well said, Tallaght Villan. Like I've said before, let's make our new year's resolution something really novel - like supporting ALL the players at B6, not just the current 'stars' ...
BobTheBuilder
By alll accounts a tremendous young prospect, and while admittedly all such signings are very much something of a gamble, I'm just happy to see that we are attracting such youngsters into the club. Maybe he'll make the grade, maybe he wont, but he'll get every opportunity at Villa Park to realise his potential, and after that, who knows? Good luck to the lad.
glensider
Very sensible comments Tallaght Villan. We seem all too eager to put down our young starlets far too easily and quickly, without giving them much of an opportunity to prove themselves. We have an excellent academy, one of the best, so lets trust in the judgement of our academy coaches and leave our young charges in their capable hands. They know what they are doing, and if they see something special in a youngster, particularly one they decide to bring over from the continent, then lets let them get on with it, and hope that we've found ourselves a future jewel.
glensider
Well if the boy cant become decent here he wont anywhere! With our training facilities and acadamey i dont think theres to many places better!...Also from what i'v seen of Zoltan Steiber he looks a good prospect hasnt half got a volley on him!
aaron_villa87
signing young prospects like this is great - wenger has done it for years and you only need one or two to blossom and you're a genius!! Biggest worry for me is the gap between the first team and the youth set up (both of which are superb). The reserves are no where near good enough and the quality of our squad goes about as deep as a small puddle in a very, very dry place
AVbornandbred
That's possibly true, AVB&B, but you won't get really good players who are prepared to either rotate or sit on the bench until we are definitely a CL team - and maybe not even then. We surely can't expect - at the moment anyway - to have a squad such as 'the top four' (lol!) have. It WILL take time, and we MUST have patience or we will over-reach ourselves, buy players who disrupt the dressing room, and fail. Look at Leeds if you want to see the alternative to the current strategy.
BobTheBuilder
Stieber is ace. He's on loan isn't he? He'll be one of our big stars in next couple of seasons.
