Barry Injury Scare

Villa are waiting to hear whether Gareth Barry will be fit enough for the derby clash against the Baggies on Saturday.

Barry played no part in our recent tough win against Gillingham in the 3rd round of the FA Cup after failing a fitness test due to a groin injury he had sustained.

Unfortunately the groin strain still hasn't cleared up, and he has been sent for further scans, the results of which will not be known for a few adys.

Speaking on the official site, Martin O'Neill said:

'We will assess the results of the scans but the fact is Gareth is desperate to play.'

In other injury news, Luke Young missed the Gillingham clash with a tight hamstring, but O'Neill is hopeful he will be fit by the weekend.

Carlos Cuellar and Martin Laursen are both making progress and have rejoined some running work at Bodymoor Heath but it is probably unlikely that either will be back to play even a part on the bench for the Baggies match.

Rubbish man. Zat Knight is playing rather well in ML's abscence. Gardner can't get a league game, and the mighty Marls is kicking his boots. We're fine.

Just like the old days!!!!

At least these are injuries in areas where we have some cover, and none of them seem like anything long term. Cross everything that Ash & Gabby stay fit!

I reckon this is a wind up, maybe trying to get West Brom to not risk their doubtfulls as we'll have a weeker team as well. Thats what I'm going for anyway. Lies lies lies

I reckon Barry will be fit for Saturday. I think Villa are just being cautious. Also like i said on another post. Anyone saw the interview with Curtis Davies on sky sports news, with him saying that Martin "lion heart" Laursen could be fit for Saturday. UTV

We can still function when introducing one or two replacements into a close to full strength side, its when we put out a so called 'fringe' team that we are found wanting. Gareth is a very important player for us, we all know that, and he'd clearly be missed against premiership opposition, but injuries are going to happen to our star men. We have to prove we can still rise to the challenge. Bring them Baggies on!

Thats interesting Jonesy08. I didn't catch that part of the interview, I just saw the bit where Curtis was rambling on about deadline day transfer dealings. That would be good though if indeed Martin were to make such a speedy return, not to say that Zat hasn't performed more than adequately as his replacement.

Its a smoke screen. I gaurentee Barry will play. They have to try and make it look genuine after 'resting' him on Sunday.

i'd play zat up front, he can cross and he can shoot with the best of em. man mountain, would sh** you up a player that size upfront.
krisvilla
Yeah i saw that part to y'day glensider. I think 2day they were showing another part of the interview. He was just talking about the game on sat, where all the talk will be about Luke Moore returning to Villa Park instead of him with the Baggies. Then talking about how Laursen could be fit for Saturday, and saying that when he is fit he will go straight bk in to the team, and saying he don't want to lose his place. UTV

While im sure that this is just a rumour, but has nayone heard that Aiden Mcgeady was seen boarding a Birmingham flight from Glasgow this morning. Like i said im sure that this is just a rumour, but this past week or so ive heard and seen many reports linking him with us. UTV
Jonesy08
unconfirmed but was seen at Glasgow Int'l boarding a plane for B6 in a Villa shirt!

Some players you can do without, jiggle the team around a little to compensate but Barry needs to be there calming the side down and leading them to Victory again. After Gillingham we need those missing players back in the team.

Injury Scare? Get real. As boxer Ivan Drago once said - "If he dies, he dies".
