Jamie Redknapp Says Villa Are Top 4 Contenders

Jamie Redknapp says that Villa are contenders for a top four spot this season. The former Liverpool and Spurs midfielder and now Sky TV pundit wrote in his newspaper column:

'There is a ruthlessness to Villa and they are fit and strong too. They are young and hungry, a team packed with pace. They are a real threat to the old establishment at the top of the Barclays Premier League and a breath of fresh air for the rest of us. In their wonderful old stadium, they are the kings of the Midlands but it's time they looked for fresh battles. Their emergence has created an intriguing contest at the top of league.'

He also says the main competition is between English player packed Villa and the foreign 'flair and artistry of Arsenal adding that Barry is an important cog in the wheel but also the fact we have pace and again a knock at me no longer playing as he says they play with no Fear. Ok, ok, no need to rub it in, I'm approaching 40 and just starting to think that I might not actually play for Villa...!

He also compliments O'Neill when he told Ashley Young after the game v Everton 'You are a genius. Jamie said: 'There is no better feeling for a player....It made me wish I'd had the chance to play for O'Neill - there were nine Englishmen in his starting team at Hull on Tuesday night and one more sitting in the Sky box wishing he could roll back the years.'

He finishes with a real quote and a half! 'O'Neill has a magic about him, an ability to draw a reaction from a player. It sounds very simple but players want to play for him.'

I can't get my head around the press saying nice things about Villa and not about our past but our present and our future. Could be a great 2009!

I love it ! They are all falling for this young team with pace ball axe , Gabby is a rocket, Ash has quick feet but the rest sure aren't that quick ! Average age of our "best" 11 is also 27 . Tell the story enough times and people start believing all they read long may it continue .
Villan57
Yes, the average age is 27 but only really two players over 30 and Brad Friedel would raise that average, the rest are young!
The Fear
Only two of our starting XI are Young. Sorry.

Fair playto Jamie finnally now everyone is starting to realise what is happening down the Villa, and what every fan has known since MON arrived. But im still suprised he is not saying Spurs are still contenders lol. Because everyone knows their is a biasestness to Spurs, which is i guess normal. But im glad that the papers, pundits and other teams fans are starting to respect us and see what were trying to do.

Lol good point olafthgreat. I think Daddy will have a talk with Jamie and insist on slagging Villa off in the future.

TBH i haven't been putting you as top 4 challegers i have been outting you lot down as title contenders it might sound stupid to alot of people but you lot have beenthe most consistant team out of the top 5 teams and the way you are playing im not ruling out anything..... i dont always agree with alot of things MON says but that still doesn't take anything away from him his a great manager and he has done a great job with you definitly top 4 finish this season i cant see you finshing outside it anyway..... good luck for the rest of the season.....

Jamie Redknapp, clearly a closet Villan. Whatever next? Harry will probably be voting our supporters as the best in the country.

Lets not hold our breath though chaps. The green eyed monster will rear its ugly head before too long, as rival supporters start to get piqued about our relative 'success'.
