John Carew Out For Longer Than Expected?

Reports are suggesting that John Carew could be out for a few months more with his back injury. He was expected to be back for the January games but now it appears his agent is saying the injury will take longer to clear up.

Per Flod said: 'It is hard to say when John will be back. Maybe in February, maybe in March or later. This is an injury that will take time. It is important that John is completely healed.'

A report in The Guardian claims that Martin O'Neill has avoided the questions over JC's injury as he hasn't wanted to alert clubs of his need for a striker. Errr... ok, I don't follow the logic personally!

Would be good to get an update from Villa as to the situation and also a progress report on fans favourite Freddie Bouma

i'v heard a few people now say john carew wont play for us again! dont no how true it is but apparentley sir martin hasnt truely forgiven him for the rocket bar incident! hope its not true as i think big john genuinely loves villa
aaron_villa87
If he loved villa he would not have been in the Rocket Club. He Knew he was off side being in there (total two fingers up to Mon.) Wonder why he is never at a club for very long? Loves Villa my Arse. HAPPY 2009 TO VILLA FANS AROND THE WORLD

Sound's like a load of bull to me but you never can tell with MON i mean he let Barry get away with murder in the summer but was a lot tougher on Berger when he mouthed of to the press, i suppose Barry is more important so he got off quite lightly.
chris the villan
Being a bit tough on Carew 50, it's not like he went out fighting and got nicked like a certain liverpoo captain.
chris the villan
You have a point Chris the Villan but Gerrard in the eyes of the law is innocent until proved guilty. Also he had not sneaked out of the Liverpoo team hotel and was not found to be out after hours.

Big John seems to be unavailable one awful lot, so we need a replacement whatever the situation.
Winsforvilla
I don't think fining and suspending Barry the maximum and stripping him of the club captaincy was exactly letting him get away with murder Chris. MON did everything that the PFA would allow him to.... Villa, under MON, have a very similar approach to injured players that Shankly, Clough (and Ron Saunders) had..... ie. if you're not available for selection you should not be in view until such time that you are available. Think about the Curtis Davies injury - very little said publicly until he was back in the team late pre-season. It's been the same with Freddy, Big John and now Martin Laursen.... The manager applies his energy and time to the boys who are doing the business - it's a great approach, one that should motivate the injured boys to work extra hard on their rehab to get back....

Isn't it also strange that it's the players agent that is putting out the statement and not the club? If the MON did not want to make this sort of statement, I can't imagine that he'll be too happy about this. Another nail in the coffin????????
TheQ.
The logic is there, JPF. If Club A knows that MON may be lacking a top player for some months (rather than the few weeks announced by the club), then they know MON has his back to the wall because of it and the price goes up. Basic business, no?
BobTheBuilder
Read just a minute ago in the paper that MON says he'll be back sooner rather than later, more like late jan than march.
NorthcliffeBandit
need him back. come on big john

Those Injuries picked up in the tity bar can be fatal.

Whichever way you look at it, all this news does is reinforce the fact that we can't let January pass without adding at least one quality striker to the squad.
Mayo_12
Agree bob but most clubs would already know what we have and haven't got and will realise that a major shortage is in the area of strikers (ie they'll know after Gabby and JC we have Marlon and a 17-year old prospect who has a few years of developing to do before being a regular). Hey ho.
The Fear
Two proven quality strikers are very definitely needed. I like Big JC, think that he has done a tremendous job for us since his arrival, but the fact remains that he's way too injury prone, and we simply cant afford to continue with that scenario.

That Rocket Club incident certainly seems to have been the start of Carew's Villa Park demise. It shouldn't have happened, but maybe neither party, Carew or MON are fully over the incident and the aftermath?
