Curtis Davies has told the Birmingham Mail that Villa need to be wary of the injured Tigers: 'Our draw with Arsenal was a massive boost for us and if we can follow it up with a good result at Hull we`ll maintain our momentum. Hull can bite back, they have done very well so I wouldn`t like to say that it`s going to be easy. We just need to carry on doing what we`re doing.'

Martin O'Neill has waxed lyrical about defender Zat Knight who filled the void left by Martin Laursen both in defence and attack! The Villa boss said on AVTV: 'Zat's attitude has been fantastic and he's never let his head drop. He was disappointed with the goals we conceded out in Hamburg but once he knew he was going to be playing against Arsenal, his application was absolutely terrific. Carlos Cuellar is still struggling with his hamstring injury so it looks like Zat Knight might well be playing alongside Curtis Davies tomorrow night v Hull. Cuellar is expected to be out for another 2-3 weeks. Davies says he has no worries playing alongside Zat: 'Zat played 28 games last year. It is no surprise to see him performing well. He has been frustrated that he has not had as much of a chance as he would have liked, but against Arsenal he stood head and shoulders above everyone else and has done so well. It`s going to be a tough fight because it is going to be a four-horse race rather than the three-horse race that everyone assumed it was, but Zat has always been knocking on the door.'

Curtis Davies told the Birmingham Mail he isn't worried about Arsene Whingebags comments that Villa can't win the league saying that he should concentrate on his own team and says he is yet to be at peak form 'I haven`t set the world on fire but I always feel there is more to come from me because I set my standards so high. The more and more we keep winning games, I`m sure I`m going to improve with the team as we go along. It helps being in a winning team.'

Zat Knight told the official site that the 'fighting spirit' is what got Villa back from 2-0 down v Arsenal. 'We didn't let our heads drop and we kept believing that we were good enough to get back in the match. Our first half performance showed what we were capable of because I thought we played some great football and created some really super openings.'

Aston Villa haven't, as far as I can see, confirmed the reports, but it appears from the newspapers that Villa's defensive rock Martin Laursen could be out for up to a month as he has aggravated an old knee injury. Full article: Martin Laursen Out For A Month?

Sheriff Kimbo's that was the week that was on Aston Villa: The Week In Villa #18 (19/12/08 - 25/12/08)

Martin Laursen has been quoted on Sky Sports talking to Ekstra Bladet saying he believes Liverpool will win the league this year. 'Liverpool are great and my favourites to win the title. Everything works for the team and they play positive and attacking football. They have a good squad and seek goal opportunities all the time. You should never write off Manchester United or Chelsea, but at the moment, Liverpool are ahead on all levels.'

Luke Young has spoken on AVTV about Tuesday night's opponents Hull. 'They have been the surprise package. Their run of form reminds me of my early years at Charlton. We had a great team spirit and everyone worked for each other. There were no superstars in the side and I think you can go a long way with that. If you're working as a team and running that extra yard for each other, good things happen. Hull have done that this year. I'm not saying they haven't got quality though because they clearly have.' Adding, 'They don't just work their socks off, they have players who can really create openings too.'

David Bentley said in his Zoo magazine column that Ashley Young is the star of 2008. The Spurs midfielder said: 'Ashley has really started to look world-class. He is becoming a real star in the Barclays Premier League and that bodes well for Villa and for England too.'

Thought for the day: I visited the offices of the RSPCA today. It's tiny: you couldn't swing a cat in there.

The name of Darren Bent just doesn't appeal to me at all. I put him alongside Emile Heskey and Peter Crouch on my non wish list.

Good to see Zat Knight a little bit of much deserved praise, from MON and the supporters alike. Much maligned by some, I actually think that he's a much better player for us, than many appear willing to give him credit for.
