Aston Villa's Sunday Press Transfer Talk!

Aston Villa's Sunday Press Transfer Talk!

Darn it, I thought the Sunday papers would be full of juicy rumours today, apparently not!

The News Of The World have Spurs boss Harry Redknapp saying the White Hart Lane outfit are 3rd in line behind Manchester City and Aston Villa for the signature of Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe. I am not sure that can be right as the deal was meant to be he couldn't sign anyone from Pompey within 12 months, or so the papers reported recently.

Meanwhile the BBC are quoting Harry as saying they won't be bidding for the England striker because Portsmouth have already received a 'massive' bid for the 26-year-old. 'Arry said: 'I think they've a massive offer from somebody for him, so good luck to them - I paid about £9m. He is a good player but we're not going to pay over the top for anyone.'

Another report claims that Chelsea are also now interested in Wigan striker Emile Heskey who has continually been linked to Villa and Liverpool.

Meanwhile Martin O'Neill has confirmed that Villa have had no contact from Real Madrid over Ashley Young and if they did get an offer, they'd turn it down. O'Neill said, 'We haven't had a call from Real Madrid at all, but maybe that's hardly surprising because I'm not sure they ever called Manchester United either. Maybe not for the first four months they were trying to sign Ronaldo anyway! But it's correct to say that even if they did come in with £25m we are in a position to turn it down, and we would not be encouraging any bids for him or any of the other players in any case. Of course it wouldn't surprise me if Real Madrid or anybody did make an enquiry. I said that Ashley was world class and that's fine. But in any case we are in a position to keep Ashley or anybody else because the players themselves are really enjoying being here.'

SkySports claim that Villa's Wayne Routledge, currently on loan at Cardiff, will join Queens Park Rangers in January.

The Daily Mail re-hashed a recent rumour linking Inter Milan striker David Suazo, currently on loan to Benfica, to Aston Villa, Everton and Newcastle. This did the rounds about a month ago, nice to see the Mail catching up with some quotes from the players agent!

i read somewhere carew is out for another month!? whats that all about? we could do with heskey more now
28/12/2008 12:02:00
Ashley young is soon signing a 10 year contract worth £20 a week, free chat room subscriptions and a free web cam that will keep him at villa park for the remainder of his career.

Lazy Juno's this is rehash crap
28/12/2008 13:00:00
Does the Carew injury worry anyone else - maybe his discipline has got poor and in January he will be on his way out???
28/12/2008 19:43:00
whoever or whatever we do need to strengthen in certain areas. not squad players this time but real quality if it is up for grabs. A sluggish second part of the season and a couple of injuries will scupper a CL spot. I'm sure MON has some targets in mind so lets hope he gets his way. So far so good with plenty of promise! UTV.

why does the clucking hen Harry Redknapp continually talk about other clubs bids for players he is sniffing around? he must do MON's head in with us trying to keep things professional and on the low. If it's between us and Man Citeh they could obviously outbid/outwage us but if Defoe has anything about himself he'd choose Villa as he could be the missing ingredient to scupper Arsenal and guarantee a CL spot. Come on Defoe what can't you but with £60K a week that you could with £100k a week you greedy so and so!! The £100k a week certainly won't guarantee CL football that's for sure to be sure. You'd be joining part of a 'team'. Man Citeh are a squad full of individuals.
29/12/2008 09:49:00
If Defoe ends up at Citeh....might I suggest we get in early for Sturridge because that lad is going to be top class.....and I am not basing my view on five minutes of Match of the Day !!!
29/12/2008 10:21:00
Yes, sturridge looks another great youngster along with Ireland, don't think they'll be selling either though, not until Hughes is sacked and some fancy foreign manager comes in!

I like very much the look of Sunderlands Kenwyne Jones, and think they'd he'd be a great addition to the squad. The old familiar rumours linking us with Crouch, Heskey, and Darren Bent, do absolutely nothing for me.
