Pompey Fan Interview On Jermain Defoe Link

Pompey Fan Interview On Jermain Defoe Link

1) So, Defoe is being linked with an exit and Villa are according to press talk going to bid £10million. Would you be sorry to see him go?

Of course I would, who would not be sorry to see a goalscorer of his pedigree leave. That said, to tell you the truth I am not convinced he is playing like someone that wants to stay anyway - and if he wants to go, as with anyone that wants to go, I say let him go and we will bring in players than want to play for us! Maybe his desperation for a goal is making him look like he does not want to be here?

2) With the credit crunch do you think it is inevitable that Sacha Gaydamak will have to sell him along with Diarra?

To be honest I have given up trying to believe who 'will' and who 'will not' leave. We - Pompey fans - will find out soon enough if Peter Storrie and Sacha have been 'up front' and 'honest' with us or have told us a load of bull like they often do! I can appreciate the financial climate as it is, but the club keep telling us our debts - and all clubs are in debt! - are 'manageable', the departure of Diarra was inevitable as that money sorts out a lot of our problems 'apparently'... Did we spend for instant success without any 'long term' plan, as was always claimed, in place? Time will tell...

3) Who would you rather keep, Defoe or Peter Crouch and why?

For me it would be Crouch easily - then again I have always been a fan of the fella. He is a more all-round performer and more of a team player. To be fair he scores too, and is our top scorer - had he taken more of his chances, and he has had a hell of a lot, he could be on 20 plus by now!

4) Do you fear BOTH strikers will have to be sold?

I only fear this if the club are 'cashing' in on players now, and I fear Sacha could do this - we will find out soon enough if he genuinely is the 'fan' that was claimed, and again how much truth the club have told us about our financial situation. Crouchy has already said he does not want to go - he will go if the club force him out, which they could do...

5) What sort of player do you think we'd be getting if we got Defoe, he always looks quality to me and seems to score spectacular goals, but is he capable of being a 20 goal a season striker?

A goalscorer, and goals win you games - so long as you can also defend! He is greedy like all top strikers are, but for my money 'too greedy' and lays into his teammates for not passing to him, when it seems to be ok for him to then do the exact same thing himself. I have not really seen that 'lazy' player that he has be claimed as being, but fear it could be round the corner as his head does not seem right. To be honest from a playing point of view I think he would be crazy to leave us as we are his 'England meal ticket', as he will play every week if fit for us, with you I am not sure he will have that 'luxury' afford to him...

Little bit mixed there, still think he'd score for fun with our supply though, although he does seem a bit of a big time charlie off the field I can't say I'm that bothered, I don't want to date the lad, just want to see Villa have options up front and I don't think JC will be the long term (or even medium term) answer for Villa. I think Defoe and Gabby up front could be lethal if they get an understanding nice and quickly.

Can't see Gabby and Defoe playing well together, too similar perhaps. Bellamy or even Heskey safer options.

Don't wanthim. These comments entirely in line with my view of Defoe. We need a good goalscorer, whether someone to lead the line or a sniffer of goals to play off the likes of Carew or Crouch, or both. But they need to be good long term bets that would fit in and love to be at Villa. Crouch might want to stay - but he would give his all and try and fit in wherever he went. Defoe might start brightly, but is not a good long term bet to take us to the next level.

when in form, he is untouchable - brilliant link up play, and fantastic finishing. When out of form, he is selfish, and not exactly clinical either. For some reason, he has become unsetlled, and his form has dipped dramaticly lately - however he is still capable of changing a game. Would he fit into the villa team? you alreay have agbonlahor in the same position, and I wouldn't like to have to pick one over the other!

For some reason he has become unsettled? Surely that'll be because 'App 'Arry buggered off to Spurs 5 minutes after he'd bought Defoe from the very same club. I'm sure I'd be pretty p!$$ed off if someone did that to me. Let's get Crouchy & Defoe. Them rotating with what we already have would surely win us the league!!! ;)

Since 'arry has gone so has JD. Moody, greedy git. I had waited years for us to sign him & we get 6 months tops. If he won't die for the shirt of Pompey you can have him, though I'd prefer £12m.

Better him than Bellamy. Still both can be greedy, disruptive little gits.

he'll go to man city, im sure theyre the club who according to arry redknapp whove tabled a "massive" offer. he'll be getting a ridiculously big salary their while if we signed him his salary would be normal and fair.

I'd rather have Crouch. He's far more consistent and a better all around player. Defoe doesn't deserve the reputation of a big time striker because he simply isn't. Given a choice between Crouch and Bellamy it will be Crouch again. Bellamy is an ass of a man and would be less of a contributor to the effort than Crouch would be. AND he has no neck; I've no use for a man with no neck!

defoe isnt a proven goalscorer and doesnt deserve the rep he has. Crouch much better. Dofoe is a waist of cash
