'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martin O'Neill's Post Arsenal Match Reaction

Martin O'Neill said after the 2-2 draw with Arsenal that it was a 'sensational' match.

He told AVTV 'By the time Arsenal scored in the first half, it shouldn't have mattered because we should have had four or five goals by that point. We were really brilliant. We were winning tackles, we were pressing forward - it was just monumental. Then we had the stuffing knocked out of us and we have had to fight back. They had a little spell at the start of the second half where they scored their second goal and I suppose we were a little lucky to keep out a third. It would have been a long way back from that!'

He also says the team deserve 'all the credit in the world' and added that we deserved the point.

He says they were stunned to go one down, let alone two down. 'For us to fight back from that was fantastic. The spirit was superb but it wasn't just that. We produced great play too. We attacked them with a real ferocity. We kept it going against a real top-quality side. The point was totally deserved.'

Ferocity, I like it! Some people have been saying how the ref had a good game???? Personally I thought he was c rap. Someone also mentioned on the radio last night whilst I was on the way back from the match, that for the penalty he reached for his red card but when he saw who it was he changed his mind . . . Can anyone confirm this, as I didn't notice it at the time.

I thought the ref was a homer for a change , he gave us several dubious decisions that we would not have got away from home that is for sure. The penalty being the biggest! Credit to the Linesman (and the trinity rd ) though on that one perhaps

Mart, like us, is on a real 'high'. Great battling performance from our lot, fully deserving of at least a point. I'm with '57. Thought the referee was pretty decent, that is pretty decent as in giving us the type of borderline decisions that dont go our way usually.

Thought that Mart and Wenger were going to come to blows at one stage. Good job that Robbo stepped in pretty sharpish. No love lost between Mart and Wenger, or so it seems.
