James Milner spoke after the West Ham game admitting the team got rode their luck but says that will balance out over the season, adding 'We had chances, they had chances and I think it was inevitable that it would take that bit of luck to win it..... If you get three points from those games - as we did at West Ham - you're doing well...That shows the quality in the squad. It's about knowing how to win and sustaining that winning habit. We certainly have that at the moment.'

Milner has also talked about the England manager Fabio Capello's comments praising the Villa team and Milner himself. He told AVTV: 'The England manager's comments gave me a lift. It was great to hear those. But I can't just rest of my laurels. I need to be playing well every week and put in solid performances on the pitch. In all honesty, I feel lucky to be at a great club like Villa. I am playing with some tremendous talent - with a great mix of experience and youth.' Full article: Milner's Merry Christmas

Gareth Barry has told the Sun that Villa have got the staying power to stay in the top four. Barry said: 'It`s a real confidence boost to be above United. We`ve played two games more but to see ourselves sitting above them at the halfway stage is a great sign. People will take time to seriously consider us a top-four team — you can understand it. But if we get to April and we are still there, people will start to change their minds. It`s fine by us, it takes the pressure off us. We`ll probably keep saying that ourselves anyway.'

El Tel said in his column at the weekend that Villa should forget about aiming for fourth and concentrate on winning the league. 'Seven points off the lead and still very much in the mix, Villa must be thinking big — this season. If Arsene Wenger says Arsenal still have a chance of winning the title then so have Villa. I don`t see why now is not the time. From what I`ve seen, particularly when you consider Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United have dropped quite a few points, I think there is an opportunity to be had. This could as good a year as any to slip under the radar and steal the Premier League trophy.' Full article: El Tel 'Villa Should Aim To Win The League'

The Mirror had an 'exclusive' yesterday saying that Martin O'Neill wants to bring West Ham striker Craig Bellamy to Villa Park. Apparently Manchester City are also interested and as West Ham are having to look to sell players to balance the books due to the pressures on their Icelandic owner, it makes sense that their star players will be the target. Dean Ashton has already been linked to Villa, amongst others. The Mirror report claims that Marlon Harewood would return to West Ham as part of the deal West Ham Striker Would Favour A Move To Villa

Vital Villan: Eyebrows were raised when Gabby started wearing his new red boots, more discussion was had when he destroyed Bolton in luminous green ones. However whilst most fans are looking forward to the Arsenal clash and are hoping we take the opportunity to solidify our position in the Top 4, Nike executives will be rubbing their hands in glee as overall they will be the only winners. The reason being, they also 'sponsor' former bluenose loanee Nicklas Bendtner and have told him to wear the pink ones. Nike Win Battle Of The Boots

We did ride our luck against West Ham United, James Milner is quite correct, but isn't that the sign of a winning team, a good team? Soak up the pressure, particularly away from home, then strike, keep a clean sheet, and return home with three very valuable points. Sometimes it might not be pretty, but its a job very well done.

Gareth really seems to be back in the swing of things now, both on and off the pitch. His comments to the media are positive and upbeat, and the guy has to be applauded for putting the personal disappointment of last summer behind him.
