The January Transfer Thread 2009 - Part 1

Here we go again! The January transfer window is approaching so Vital Villa, in keeping with tradition, will keep this thread stuck to the top of the front page until the window slams shut with more players bought to Villa than you can believe!

Hey, lets start on a high folks, we can plunge into depression and despair as the transfer month heads to its conclusion!

So if you hear a rumour, have a major wish, see some gossip that I've missed in the articles or just want to pass the time of day to save you going mad, this is the place for it.

The summer transfer window got through 11 parts before closing, I'm sure there will be a good few again during January (we limit article comments to 300 ish otherwise the article becomes very slow!)

COME ON THE VILLA and more importantly, come on Martin O'Neill... over to you!

First bit of movement is out:

Wayne Routledge to QPR (undisclosed)

IN:

Arsenio Halfhuid from Excelsior.

Oh god I have only just got over the last one! Still this one should be much less easy on the nerves since we have a decent sized squad now, and that we are flying high in the league.

Owen would be a quality signing for anyone, even a top 4 club. If you get him, it would be a massive statement of intent for your CL aspirations.

How about a go at Drogba? He doesn't figure much at Chelsea and Inter don't seem to be as interested. He's big and strong...and he can score! Novel idea, that.

Hang on here a minute. Nathan Delfonso might be the answer. He seems very handy, good finisher, maybe instead of blowing a truck load of money on an injury prone striker, that only cares about his bank balance or anyone else we should give a Nathan a go in a few games anyway, picture him, Gabby, Jimi and Ashley in the team together.

i am a bit shocked that a lot think Owen is the answer, and i totally agree with tallaght v. he is injury prone and greedy. its a bit of living in the past to be considering him and MON will see it the same way. same goes for Heskey. both are english, sure, but that ain't enough to these nags past the post!

I agree with leftfoot, for the money owen would cost and the fact he is always on the bench then i'm sure we could do much better for much cheaper. We need goals over the whole season neither Heskey or Owen would give us that.

Im wondering if kevin doyle would be a good signing? I dont think we'll get santa cruz because sparkys bound to get in there first. Im unsure on owen. I think his best days are behind him if im honest. We need a young, keen goal machine. Not sure who though

Podolski and Owen for me.....both classy players and both offer different attributes to our current front two. Both very gettable also, given our current position....Ashton as a back-up option if we couldn't get these two.
