'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The January Transfer Thread 2009 - Part 1

Here we go again! The January transfer window is approaching so Vital Villa, in keeping with tradition, will keep this thread stuck to the top of the front page until the window slams shut with more players bought to Villa than you can believe!

Hey, lets start on a high folks, we can plunge into depression and despair as the transfer month heads to its conclusion!

So if you hear a rumour, have a major wish, see some gossip that I've missed in the articles or just want to pass the time of day to save you going mad, this is the place for it.

The summer transfer window got through 11 parts before closing, I'm sure there will be a good few again during January (we limit article comments to 300 ish otherwise the article becomes very slow!)

COME ON THE VILLA and more importantly, come on Martin O'Neill... over to you!

First bit of movement is out:

Wayne Routledge to QPR (undisclosed)

IN:

Arsenio Halfhuid from Excelsior.

WHAT? Michael Owen has just signed???? (Just practicing folks!)
The Fear
Oh god I have only just got over the last one! Still this one should be much less easy on the nerves since we have a decent sized squad now, and that we are flying high in the league.
Tez86
Owen would be a quality signing for anyone, even a top 4 club. If you get him, it would be a massive statement of intent for your CL aspirations.
The_Legend_Of_Zola
How about a go at Drogba? He doesn't figure much at Chelsea and Inter don't seem to be as interested. He's big and strong...and he can score! Novel idea, that.
attila11101
Hang on here a minute. Nathan Delfonso might be the answer. He seems very handy, good finisher, maybe instead of blowing a truck load of money on an injury prone striker, that only cares about his bank balance or anyone else we should give a Nathan a go in a few games anyway, picture him, Gabby, Jimi and Ashley in the team together.
Tallaght Villan
i am a bit shocked that a lot think Owen is the answer, and i totally agree with tallaght v. he is injury prone and greedy. its a bit of living in the past to be considering him and MON will see it the same way. same goes for Heskey. both are english, sure, but that ain't enough to these nags past the post!
leftfoot
I agree with leftfoot, for the money owen would cost and the fact he is always on the bench then i'm sure we could do much better for much cheaper. We need goals over the whole season neither Heskey or Owen would give us that.
Tez86
Im wondering if kevin doyle would be a good signing? I dont think we'll get santa cruz because sparkys bound to get in there first. Im unsure on owen. I think his best days are behind him if im honest. We need a young, keen goal machine. Not sure who though
medzy
Few years late, but Robbie Keane anyone??
YatesyVillain
Podolski and Owen for me.....both classy players and both offer different attributes to our current front two. Both very gettable also, given our current position....Ashton as a back-up option if we couldn't get these two.
YatesyVillain
I think we only need one striker to replace Harewood. For me Delfouneso is a major talent and automatic 4th choice striker. What we need a 'big' man, We have two speedy players in Gabby and Delboy, and one big man in Carew, We need another player in the similar mold, Crouch or Heskey would be great.
industrial_musical
or Ashton for that matter as well.
industrial_musical
Podolski, Owen, Robbie Keane etc. are all pie in the sky - people quickly forget that signings in January are unlikely and rare - teams hold onto players until the summer as there is a short window and selling clubs are unlikely to get replacements quickly. This is why I would be very happy with someone like Kevin Doyle or Emile Heskey. Looking at our squad on paper and our reserves v Hamburg our main weakness is that our 3rd choice striker is Marlon Harewood. It would be okay for a 4th place team to have him 5th or 6th choice but not us. In January I would be very very happy with one signing - a goalscoring centre-forward - who is better than Harewood. IF we remain top 4 and ahead of Arsenal that may make us more appealing to the likes of Ashton but players allowed to leave will have a lot of options due to few players actually being available - the very best will end up taking the money on offer at Man City!!
deano.avfc
Here we go again. I predict: No Michael Owen, instead, we'll have Emile Heskey. Marlon will depart Villa park for Stoke. The talk of N'Zogbia might be true, and I have an inkling he's the type of player Mr O'Neill likes, so I'll gamble and say that we'll sign him and Heskey, and that'll be that.
evoflash
McGeadys falling our with Strachan is interesting - is he a shoe-in for a move in January?? I dont know much about him - I was told that he is a better prosepect than Maloney but Maloney seems to be doing the business this season. Would it just be more of the same with McGeady??
deano.avfc
Heskey must be a nailed on certainty surely.
industrial_musical
How about Olic? ha. I mean Doh!. McGeady?????????????
Stig
There was nothing wrong with Maloney's football, it was his attitude/temprament that was the problem. The poor wee chap couldn't handle being so far from the highlands. As for McGeady, I souldn't imagine he would suffer the same was as he's Irish
Villan Of The North
Don't agree Deano, sorry. Podolski is unhappy, 3rd or 4th choice and has already stated he wants a move. Owen is clearly up for grabs. West Ham need to sell and Ashton might command top dollar but they will sell if we offer the right money. I don't agree with you that we couldn't get these guys. For once there is some real quality available and we are (for once) a pretty attractive proposition.
YatesyVillain
I don't think that we need a pacy guy or a mountainous hold up man. Just a finisher/fox in the box/all round centre forward. Podolski fits that roll and so would Owen or Ashton be if they weren't so in love with the treatment table. Doyle maybe the man if MON can work his magic but he is 25 already. If only Benni McCarthy was a couple of years younger.
Villan444
villain 444 - spot on, couldnt agree more, we need a 'Van Nistolroy' type player. McGeady has got to be a shout.
Stig
McGeady thinks he knows better than his manager. I've watched him loads in the Green Shirt for Ireland, and I can't see what the fuss is about. Every good piece of play is accompanied by a mistake, and some indifference. Stiliyan Petrov is far, far better.
evoflash
We are a team in on an upward curve with improvements to bad had. Each window that has passed we are a more inviting proposition for prospective players. A testament to the great work MON has been doing. We are aware of the difficulty of recruiting real quality in the Jan window and the problems of getting a player up to speed with formations, passages of play of the team etc can make signings hit or miss. To negate this a seasoned pro with premier league experience would be the ideal target to improve the chances of the player 'hitting the ground running'. Owen, Defoe, (Zaki), Valencia, McCarthy, Martins and I shall add olic to that list! First time post long time reader.
dibanio
obafemi martins is a good shout, but what if there is any truth about robbie keane, 15m go and get him!
Stig
West ham wont need to sell soon as they have 5 interested parties wanting to take them over. That might burst the ashton bubble. Heskys experience is a plus but it doesnt solve the goal scoring. Id like to see podolski at villa but surely he'd want champs league football??? I think owen will stay at the geordies. Kinnear wont sell in jan anyway.
medzy
agree villan444, we need someone purely there to finish, we have enough outside the box now to supply the amunition.
The Fear
hope Marlon gets a move, he isn't good enough for us but has a good heart and deserves regular football.
The Fear
out of all the above mentioned it has to be R Keane for me. Proven goalscorer who still has Midlands roots so will settle easily. Sticking point here is will Pool sell and if so, will the fat waiter deal with us after the GB saga? For sure pool will want there money back on him. So for my second choice it has to be Defoe. Pompey need the funds and we need a "fox in the box" ( villan444). Forget Crouch and Heskey as for me they would be stop gaps. Sorry I agree that Harewood has to go and would fit in nicely at Stoke. UTV!
holte ender 1969
Carew fit and in form would be like a new signing anyway.
holte ender 1969
no thanks on Robbie Keane. Can't stand him, and I don't even know why.
los_angeles_villan
Groundhog day ? Defoe x million please MON !!!
ASPINALL
Crouch mentioned in the oracle of english journalism (The Mirror)again today.
Stig
Podolski for me any day of the week. I'd take Valencia as well.
Beovilla
Exciting to be in the market for a striker. As I went to sleep last night, I remembered how excited I was when we sign Juan Pablo. I miss him.
evoflash
Here we go!!! Let me start by reiterating my unreserved apology in respect of my comments in the last 'window', you may recall I (stupidly) doubted our financial clout and continued to do so despite assurances from many of you that 'the money is there' (sorry Mr Fear!). Now, I need to put on record notwithstanding 3 or so 'odd' performances against so called lesser teams, we have had a fantastic season so far. We clearly have massive potential which will mature and get better! A big concern for the so called big 4. However I feel that we need a big target man, Big John Carew is a hero but, if I had 10M I'd sign Peter Crouch like a shot, he is STILL underrated, I know he underperformed last time, but he's in a different league now and so are we, Gabby, Ash and Crouchy would be amazing, any thoughts?
26.05.82
think Crouch would jump at the chance as he knows how much Capello rates Villa for the England team. Then again, that might work if we want to attract Defoe or Owen as well.
The Fear
No worries 26.05.82, totally understand why some were sceptics, to be fair I've been able to look these guys in the eye and talk with them, so I have an unfair advantage in believing them to be totally honest, stand up guys who really do want to achieve big things at Villa Park.
The Fear
It's true, we can attract quality English talent, not sure about Owen in particular his wages, Defoe is class, but perhaps too similar to what we already have, so it's Crouch for me - please.
26.05.82
Think MON could get the most out of Crouchie, he has an undoubted talent and could even play with Carew. They both have good control on the deck and in the air we would be unbeatable. As JP says, we have got to be a VERY attractive choice to ANY strikers who want success, goals or just recognition at the moment. UTV
Villan444
You really need a striker that would challenge Carew and Gabby's place, not just someone who will warm the bench - like another Harewood. Would really like to see Villa sign someone who would make finishing fourth more possible.
abesaint
Its got to be Owen and Heskey - they would both relish each other coming to the Villa and both Carew and Gabby would learn off both of them, give them serious competition and a much needed rest
tvrwhitey
Gabby doesn't want a rest or to be rotated. Carew is another matter and likes a sit down on the bench after breaking a finger nail or getting mud on his shorts.
Villan444
he will though after the heavy schedule we have coming up - he might be good but he aint superman. Question ? do we take the risk of keep playing 4-5-1 and hope he lasts the pace of the season (not including the now much harder UEFA cup games) and end up finishing 5th or below ?
tvrwhitey
i gotta say, i really don't like heskey, but he would still be a very shrewd signing, tactically speaking. he won't get the goals, however, so we would need an owen type striker also. not sure if podolski is that man but i would be very pleased if we signed him. how bout dean windass, anyone?
ric112
oh and if you haven't seen it already check this out: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/article5347498.ece (laursen should be no.1!)
ric112
True tvr but if we get 2 more decent strikers who are playing every week at the moment, would they want to come to us to sit on the bench for the majority of the time.
Villan444
I like the idea of Peter Crouch coming back. I never wanted to see him leave in the first place. How about bringing Glen Johnson with him? We are still short at right back, and having 2 England players competing would be great. GJ is also a more attacking option. Both these players give us options. There have been too many games where we just haven't had the facility to change tactics dramatically. It's not too much to ask, and just these 2 players would satisfy me.
HeathfieldRoad1874
Shaun Maloney is moving back to Villa in exchange for a chicken pie :o)
Jamie1967
Thats my point Villan444 they would be happy with squad rotation at Villa - Both Heskey and Owen are seasoned pro's who would be team players and happy to compete for first team places either as a team or with either Gabby or Carew .... Well done villa tonight cant wait for the Arsenal match on boxing day now ..... wicked - happy Xmas everyone
tvrwhitey
HeathfieldRoad1874 I agree, both Crouch and Johnson would be good players to have at villa.I am sick of the owen talk I dont want him he is injury prone and only cares about michael owen not the team. Dream january signings: 1. Crouch. 2. Johnson/Maguel. 3. Kevin Doyle. 4. Downing
Tallaght Villan
Tallaght Villan: I agree with Crouch and even Johnson and also Kevin Doyle as he'll be hungry as hell with a point to prove but he has signed a contract extension at Reading......but Downing, he'd upset the balance of the side and realistically wouldn't dislodge Young or Barry...can see why you want him but he woulbn't accept being here as cover for Ashley if he gets injured. Too good to be a squad player and just not on the same level as Ashley.
koolbill
Tallagght Villan: In saying that....if Barry does one next season then Downing and Matt Taylor would be two natural targets with the latter being a centre left MF and Downing ablet to do the same...hmmmm (stroking beard like a Bon baddie), let's see what Bazza does first.
koolbill
Kenwyn Jones? Would be a great siging for us as replacement for Carew.
son_of_cher
Like KJ, could be a good player for us but can he improve us, is he a next level kind of player...in saying that - he's miles better than Harewood.
koolbill
If West Ham were selling, would Bellend not be a better target than Dean Ashton? I know he is a plonker but he was a handful yesterday. Trouble is, much like Ashton and Owen, his injury record is awful.
The Fear
Sunday Press talk on Villa Click Here
The Fear
there was a player called Manso who played for ldu quito today against Man U and he was brilliant.
Pking
Yeah seen this guy but he is a midget to be fair. He looked ok in an average team. Rooney was superb BTW. For a touch of class i would like to see Raul at VP.
holte ender 1969
NO - NOT BELLEND PLEASE. The guy is a total ****! Maybe a few of the Arsenal players might fancy a move to VP so they can still claim to play for a 'big 4 team'!!!! Who do fancy boys - Adebayor anyone?
26.05.82
Rather van persie. Another great goal today. We gotta watch him boxing day
medzy
Can't argue with Van Persie, mind you my tongue was firmly in cheek when I posted my previous comment!
26.05.82
Koolbill. I want Downing as I can see a major injury happening sooner rather then later, I take your point about him not wanting to be a back up for Ashley, but I still feel that Barry is so far up Stevie G's backside that if he gets the chance he will go to the pool no mater how high we finish, so why not get the replacement in now so he can adjust to life at VP, reduce the amount of disruption to the team without barry and also stop anyone else getting in the perfect replacement for Barry befour we do.
Tallaght Villan
only prob is with players from english clubs you play well over the odds generally. therefore for a 'next level' quality forward, of a reasonable age, we might be better looking abroad. OK santa cruz is mebbe not perfect or proven but if he'd come from an english team he would've cost far more than 3.5mil!!
NorthcliffeBandit
Skysports says we signed the Dutch Starlet and the deal should be done Jan 1st.
los_angeles_villan
Bellamy link today. Click Here
The Fear
I can't imagine Mr O'Neill would sign Bellamy.
evoflash
@ Ric112. Nice article. 4 out of top ten being Villa players. Kenwyn Jones would be a good investment I think. I think Bellend would upset a happy camp (especially if he brings his golf clubs). Crouch coming back would be great. Heskey - No. Owen - maybe, depends on his salary.
DoLpHiNaToR
Let's get Crouchy back. We should never have let him go in the first place. He's improved with Champions League experience and he's English. Perfect.
Adam Deuce
Crouch is a must have player for Villa I think, Bellamy has the talent no doubt about that but he is to much trouble and would cause problums at VP and Defoe I think is a much over rated player, good but not as good as Crouch or Bellamy (as over all players not just goal scoring) in my view
Tallaght Villan
podolski is quality, no chance with crouch he has had more clubs than nick faldo and its time for him to settle, owen has stated he will be staying we the geordies until at least the end of the season, and heskey dont score goals so is no use
glen9mullan
I truly believe Defoe should be our number one target. The boy is so underated and would score 20+ goals in our team, without fail. He is just as good as Gabby but more clinical. He should have been at Villa Park last Jan, but we now have another chance to get him and we can't let this one slip away. Our biggest rivals for his signature would be Spurs but I don't believe a player can re-join a club within a year, leaving us with a clean run. Add N'Zogbia and Heskey to Defoe and I truly believe we can get top 4. Great starting 11 with a bench that can change games in an instant! Fridel, L Young, Laursen, Cueller, Bouma, Milner, Petrov, Barry, A Young, Heskey, Defoe. Bench Guzan, Davies, Sidwell, Reo, N'Zogbia, Gabby, Carew.
In MON we trust!
Id prefer Gabby to Defoe at the moment. Get Crouchy in instead. PLEASE NOT HESKEY!!!! VERY OVERRATED
medzy
Main problem with Heskey is he doesn't score. Big problem for a striker really! Think last time I looked his rate was 1 in 5
The Fear
Tuesdays transfer talk: Click Here
The Fear
Think you are right IN MON we trust! He would score for fun with the supply we now have in the team and would work well with Gabby I'd think.
The Fear
Very quick question here - probably on wrong post but hey ho - Mark Lawrenson has predicted 1-1 v Arsenal. He seems to state that this would be good as we would go above them - my question is - would you take a draw??
deano.avfc
I rekon i would if laursen doesnt play. Big blow if it serious.
medzy
Maybe we'll need a quality centre back aswell as a quality striker. Upson maybe???
medzy
As long as we go with Reo-Coker at RB with Cuellar moving to CB - or Shorey LB and Young RB. CERTAINLY NOT KNIGHT IN A STRAIGHT SWAP!! Van Persie will be too strong for him!!
deano.avfc
Totally agree, play the players in their right positions and we'll be ok!
The Fear
I think this is mind games, Laursen will play on Friday.
KSarge1
Lets hope so for the sake of villa!
medzy
Bellamy apparently in talks with Spurs over 12m move. Maybe we also have someone lined up and thats why we are not making a move - Defoe anyone???
deano.avfc
I know I'm talking of a reported possible 'out' rather than an 'in' namely those arrogant b's at Real Madrid still talking of pulling Ashley away. Who the hell do they think they are, and, perhaps more importantly, they are treating Randy and MON with absolute contempt thinking that money will buy everything. I am sure that Ash will not want to go and join a failed manager at a failing club. I hope not anyway, besides it won't do his England chances much good either.
Obediah
Ashton out for rest of season! No move to villa then
medzy
Oba Martins?????
Madirish
Good God! Who'd have thought Knight would produce that performance! By the way, Wes Brown? We were linked last jan, but he was 1st choice RB then. Now he's behind G. Neville and Rafael at RB and Ferdinand, Vidic and Evans at CB. Surely he's worth a bid?
NorthcliffeBandit
Wes Brown is a good shout, NCB. I would like to see Santa at Villa, that is Santa Cruz of course. Why not break the bank for David Villa? Surely he would sell heaps of shirts for us just like Beckham did at Real Madrid. Ok he would come in for around 25mil+ but hey we are on the up aren't we.
holte ender 1969
I do love MON's whole English Ethos, but i'm thinking at times that would it be helpful if we had a cheeky punt at a Zaki type player, unknown so when they play the opposition have little experience of them, unlike if we get Crouch, Owen or whoever 90% of the Defenders in the Prem have probably learnt from experience what there game is like... its a risk but i'd be hoping our scouting team has been doing its job for MON. UTVSOTC
Munk AVFC
Lets keep the Carew option in mind. We certainly need a new forward but perhaps not a replacement. Ok, that night out and his recent injury = bad! Nevertheless his goal record is 22 in 55 apps since jan 2007. Owen has 25 in 58 since august 2005. Soooo Carew it would seem is as good a goalscorer as Owen, and far less injury prone. He brings people into the game, can be a hellish opponent for centre-halves and could be better this season than last with jimmy, ashley and proper fullbacks crossing the ball in. Think on that...
NorthcliffeBandit
Defoe dropped from Pompy team and rumours of a 16m deal to Villa - a bit pricey I admit but could we have him in the bag early January - that would make the deal worth it!! Of all the players linked I think only Bellamy, Heskey and Defoe are real possibilities but Bellamy will follow the money to City and Heskey may just sit tight until the summer so Defoe would be a great buy!!
deano.avfc
Todays gossip includes Darren Bent and more on Defoe! Click Here
The Fear
I think Bent could be a good signing, I'm still convinced that Crouch would be the most beneficial. Crouch or Bent or Defoe in that order - please god, please not Bellend.
26.05.82
wow! Just read through all 93 posts above... In terms of the pompey players you mentioned, Glen Johnson wouldn't be content to sit on the bench, and we REALLY need to keep him, as we don't have another right back. However rumours persist that he could be leaving (to liverpool?) - so you could be in with a shot. Peter Crouch I don't think you have a hope. sorry. He's playing great at pompey - and unless we get relegated, I think he will settle nicely at pompey. Defoe... you could be in with a chance. He has become unsettled for various reasons - but having said that, I can't see why you would want him. He's very grumpy, and in my opinion, not as good as Agbonlahor.
pompeycarpet
And when you say "Fabio has high regards fr villa, so would attract english players" - based on previous teams, he also has holds pompey in High regards - we had 4 players in the last england squad, 3 of them started!
pompeycarpet
I would like to see Crouch back - why all these requests for injury prone Owen? Surely Gabby is quicker and is a potential goal machine. Two top drawer full backs + Crouch + cover for Ash please MON
PiperUK
Would rather keep Crouchy at Fratton, ta very much, but Defoe is being a bit sulky at the moment and would probably like a change of scenery. He's like the litle girl in the nursery rhyme - when he's good, he's very very good but when he's sulking, he might as well be down the shops (ok, that's not the rhyme but you get the idea)
hammersmithblue
the amount of chances we create then either owen or defoe would do for me ! goodluck to the boys tonight @ hull and happy new year villans.
scoops
Having watched the game tonight, we missed big JC, if we sign Defoe I can't see he's going to offer us an alternative to what we've already got, if we had Crouch in the squad I'm sure he would have started, if not he'd of come on and had an impact, Defoe wouldn't have changed a thing.
26.05.82
#100 yippee!!!!!! Crouch and Podolski and cover for Ashl
Steve64k
Well, the shop window is about to open, lets hope this January is a good one for us!
The Fear
Lets go all out for Defoe and Keane, with Heskey and N'Zogbia as back up. Shorey/Harewood/Routledge out.....
bentonm
Rumours that we are interested in Kightly again. I haven't seen much of him, so can't comment. Also a link to Coventry LB Danny Fox. Ditto regarding knowing anything about him.
HeathfieldRoad1874
Strengthen, fellas. We need you in the top 4 next season! :D
JT_daniel
Kightly - lots of potential and really good but Wolves wouldn't sell. He's their best player. Defoe or Crouch would be brill for the SQUAD. No to Bellend/Heskey/N'Zogbia....we'll never get Podolski. I wanted Bent for ages but now I'm unsure. Love to give Wigan 10m for Valencia and nick Zaki from them too.....6m to his owner club and we're soted...soooooo it valencia and Zaki as my top choices please.
koolbill
We bought anyone yet? Disgusting if we haven't...!!!!!!!!!!! Happy New Year folks.
The Fear
I think Wigan have first refusal on Zaki. If they've got the money then we might be unable to sign him.
HeathfieldRoad1874
Tuncay from Boro always impresses me when I see him, holds the ball up well and rarely loses it. Pops up with a few goals aswell and the ever reliable papers say that he is available.
Villan444
Zaki's owners say that he'll go to the highest bidder, and Wigan don't have any first refusal. I think Man City want him, so that may as well be the end of that. The more i consider it, i really think that Crouch would be the best option for a new striker...but i can't see us getting him. Defoe is for sale, but do we really need him...i've wanted him in the past, because the guy scores for fun, but i'm not so sure he's what we need right now. Happy new year everybody, let's hope '09 is a good year for us all.
AstonMartinOneill
defoe is for sale (you don't need/shouldn't want him anyway!)... what's the likelyhood of us selling crouch too?!
pompeycarpet
Crouch would be perfect. Come on pompey let us have him. U can keep defoe! Far less injury prone than big john. N'Zogbia as a back up winger or dare i say it, Jermaine pennant on the cheap from our good friends liverpoo?! Tuncay a good shout too. He's got great ability from what ive seen. Something different
medzy
MON wont go for Defoe, he may upset the dressing room with his moods, he's more likely to go for Doyle, kightly that sort of player. he always goes for young up and coming players.
johnmurphy3112
i think daniel sturridge would fit in well with the work ethic at villa, with all the young players in the first team his speed and vision reminds me of a young bergkamp, surely that would be the right type of foil for gabby, a real goal creator
glen9mullan
Why arent we in for Wayne Bridge???
deano.avfc
Gary Neville is possibly on his way out of United. Would be a good solution to right back!
son_of_cher
Don't want Wayne Bridge, seems like he follows the money...if anyone wanted first team football that badly, they'd have left Chelsea a couple of seasons back. Gary Neville won't leave Utd, and i don't want him in any case. I really wish we could get Danny Sturridge, atm City have Jo, Benjani, Caceido, Vassel, Robinho and Sturridge...surely if they buy another striker, he'll be surplus, at least at a decent price he will be. I say go in with an 6-8mil offer, and take him. He started his career as a boy with Villa, so he's got to have ties. He's a Birmingham boy. Bring him home i say.
AstonMartinOneill
Gary Neville, are you serious??? What about when we play against Manure, he has his head so far up Fergie's backside that he would be like a double agent for them. If he's not good enough for them, then we shouldn't want him either if we are going for top four!!!!
Villan444
Neville is too old. We may aswell go for steve finnan if we want old duffers. Routledge has gone QPR
medzy
oh, just seen medzy has already said that...!
The Fear
First bit of movement is sadly outwards....! Wayne Routledge has gone to QPR for an undisclosed fee.
The Fear
"Of the players we have been strongly linked with, we are not interested in any of them" MON 02/01/2009 Sky Sports News. So that rules out Defoe, Heskey, N'Zogbia....... Looks like some more suprises from our illustrious leader.
HeathfieldRoad1874
They better be flippin good suprises because Ill be gutted if we dont sign any quality names. Our top 4 status depends on it. Least now with Wayne gone theres room for a decent winger on the bench!
medzy
defoe, owen, heskey, davies or even kenwyne jones would b all u need in january and u will challenge us for top four u need hitman while carew is out
Arsenal_1_Best
Crouchy for me. Just to hear the Rodney Trotter chants again would be fantastic! LOL. A hardcore RB would be nice also (any ideas?). Other than that we are sorted. We have Bouma to come back and hopefully Carew. Injuries aside we do need possibly 2-3 quality players. Other than Crouchy i would go for Santa Cruz or a punt on Podolski, however he isn't EPL experienced and may not settle so a gamble there. We dont want to unsettle the dressing room so my bet is an English, proven EPL playa and good attitude to boot!
holte ender 1969
Interstingly on Sky Sports news through my drunken haze last night I am sure I hear MON say that the Premiership and the fact that we are in the top four helps to make it popular destination for top foreign talent.....or was I dreaming? Doyle it is then!
fatloser
We`ll mess it up again. if we aren`t in for the players we`ve been linked with then i`m scared as to who he`s after, Bridge should have been the type of player we should have got in the summer not Shorey.......Ground hog dayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy..............
ASPINALL
Can't find the quotes where MON says he isn't interested in any of the players linked. We have to strengthen, as Arsenal_1_Best says, it is just a top striker now to challenge for a top four spot +++ a few others if possible for strength in depth as he obviously doesn't rate what he has on his bench as he rarely uses any of the subs.
The Fear
I saw the tape of the actual interview on Sky Sports News, so they are his words. Maybe he's playing mind games, or maybe he's got other ideas. Who knows? Kenwyne Jones? Daniel Sturridge? Kevin Davies? No talk in the papers but all potential targets looking at MONs track record.
HeathfieldRoad1874
Pompey want 20m for defoe??? Cant see MON parting with that sort of money for him. 10m is a fair price.
medzy
Nnnooooooooo Defoe moody git !!
B6_COMPANY
martin oneil is prob the worst manager in the prem when it comes to transfers ! he should be after defoe or crouch but instesd he willl let them go to spurs or man. city then make last minute moves for jokers like doyle or heskey
Carlos cuellar 1
Every window we have the same discussions...MON isn't good at transfers? On paper it doesn't look like it, with Spurs and Man City looking much better at it...but over the last 2 seasons, who does it look like is better? The guy doesn't buy just the big players...he buys the players with genuine desire to play...and now with the added attraction our club has, he's buying better quality. I guess that's why we should cross N'Zogbia, Defoe and Bellamy out straight away...you've gotta have the right attitude as well as skill, not necessarily a big name.
AstonMartinOneill
Amazing the League positions and gradual improvement made to the squad that the worst transfer dealing manager in the Prem manages to attain!!!!! I would far rather have Kinnear, Southgate, Megson,Keane,Adams,Pullis,Scolari,Zola,Bruce,Brown,Mowbray, at Villa !!!!!!!
fatloser
Exactly AstonMartinOneill. Carlos cuellar 1 what are you talking about? If MON isn't any good at transfers how come we have improved 6 places year on year since his arrival, have qualified for Europe for the first time in a good while and are currently sat in FOURTH place in the Premier League? Transfer dealings are an integral and massively important part of being a football manager and as far as I am concerned MON is doing a pretty good job of being manager of Aston Villa FC right now. In MON we trust.
Adam Deuce
what?were 4th in the league man how can you want one of those other managers?just because he doesnt sign the players the press want us to have?
avflell
Sarcasm!!!!!!! In reply to the comment posted by some Spaniard with bad teeth !!!!
fatloser
Strikers- I would give the 10mil Bayern want for Podolski or even better Walcott is growing frustrated at the lack of a new deal at the Arse so could be a perfect time to snatch him with a bumper deal. Dont know anything of this Serbian striker Jovanovic and probably its just his agent sniffing around. Defenders- Upson is a good shout and proven. 8 mil should do it! eventhough greedy Wetspam want 10mil. Shorey has been linked with a move to Arry's Spuds! not sure if this rumour is solid or not though Fear? Shame Nicky never got going with us but surely he is good backup etc. If laursen's injury is worst than expected then Upson or similar quality has to come in. Is everyone agreed that our midfield is ok? I think so, so there it is then. A centre half and striker for no more than 15-20mil and we have a top four finish with a good Euefa and FA cup runs. UTV!
holte ender 1969
We need to sign about 6 more quality players i rekon. Strength in depth is the only thing we lack. Look at the strength in depth the so called big 4 and citeh have and then compare it to ours. Its laughable. No wonder MON only uses the same heads week in week out. Our back up is poor. Things would be so much easier for us with a big quality squad.
medzy
all these wishes for owen and other big names wont happen, especially in this window. we have the money but we never will pay a player wages of over about 60k at the most so owen is a definite no no. i wish but no, any day now i would like to be proven wrong
AussieVilla
G'day Aussievilla from across the pond in NZ. Villa can afford big names (Owen) as they will just make the sign on fee bigger and keep the wage structure the same. Not saying they will go for Owen anyways. medzy, we do need to strengthen our bench i agree! I thought that we would get some of those recaro seats that Newc have as they are stronger. Our bench can't be comfortable as MON's always out of it! lol. By signing 2-3 bigger names then we would automatically make our squad/bench stronger. Over to you MON and Randy.
holte ender 1969
First day back in work and a Cov fan I work with reckons all the talk in Cov at the moment is Danny Fox coming to us. He also says he a quality player with a big future at the top.
Stig
I have also heard the rumour about Danny Fox....know nothing about him really. One for the future?
fatloser
Off topic but classic MON: When told opposite number Phil Brown was now asking for a replay, Aston Villa boss O'Neill deadpanned: "Perhaps we should start the whole Premier League season again. I definitely want to replay all the games we have lost."
Villan444
fatloser: a big one for the future, my colleague (cov lad/fan) says he has taken 5 freekcks this season and burried all of them from outside the box, meant to be a sweet left peg on him.
Stig
plus he is young and english.
Stig
I see Redknapp is denying any wrongdoing regarding unsettling players. He is always the same talking about other teams players and saying xyz wants them (Kaboul to Villa in the summer). It's about time he got charged by the FA for unsettling players, how many times can he get away with it. He does this every transfer window the twitching t**t
notthedougellisstand
N'Zogbia, Martins, and Heskey. 20mil. Done.
los_angeles_villan
notthedougellisstand I agree. If a manager trys to unsettle a player they should be punished. I feel that for constant attempts or trying to unsettle a player from a team that is getting to close for their liking, the club that manager is working for should get a point deduction. It was make things harder for the manager and stop managers unsettling players. imagine had rafa been charged for trying to unsettle barry.
Tallaght Villan
Definitely agree about the shifty riddler...he should be reprimanded. He's forever naming players and clubs when talking to the press about transfers. God I hate him...
olafthegreat
So glad he has got to come to Villa Park again the shifty t**t
notthedougellisstand
What Villa need now are......better defenders, someone who can do a great job replacing Laursen! You could see you didnt have that against Arsenal. Defense will always win you championships, I'm sure you all knew that! Also considering we won the PL after getting Vidic and Evra. Reo-Coker is not a FB because and when you come to OT, he will come unstuck playing that position. Where's Shorey??
ForeverUnited
Arry bending the rules,,,,, give the bloke his due he will do what ever it takes to get his man.
col8
Col8, he isn't bending the rules he is breaking them. If that's the type of manager you want then you are welcome to him.
notthedougellisstand
I laughed when that agent told about some player, to which Harry Redknapp declined to take up interest, and when the agent offered him and his missus a round trip to the World cup, he suddenly became a "hard working lad". All on camera on Panorama. AND HE'S STILL IN A JOB????? WTF? How****ed would you be if your club were buying players in that manner! Anyway, off topic. No new news for Villa? Where's Eircol....
evoflash
*********. Defoe deal been agreed between Spuds and Pompey. Oh well, Kenwyn Jones and Heskey it is.
olafthegreat
Brain damage, this window brings out some real muppets on front page.
PTP
ssn.com say villa had a bid of around 11 mill for upson turned down. one of the prems better centre halves and would give us depth, how much should we bid ?
scoops
We've never been in for Defoe as we didn't try and sign him last time round, he's a greedy show pony and we need something different. 15m - including the stuff they owed for Kaboul etc. I'm a big Heskey fan, I hope we get him.
tarzan
i used to be a janet jackson fan until she stopped getting her norks out.
Stig
Right - 3 signings that would give us the required strength and depth to get top 4 and Champions League football next year - Nedum Onouha (good back up AND he is a centreback who can play rightback - O'Neills favourite), Michael Johnson (good creative midfielder - young and English) and Lukas Podolski (really ambitious signing BUT realistic if he considered Cologne move!! - we must be bigger than them!!) OFF TOPIC HERE but If Arsenal win Champs League and finish 5th would they get Champs League football or us if we finish 4th!!
deano.avfc
Heskey is a big match player, he always delivers for England and causes problems for world class defenders (and will fit into our system of play). Deano's options look great too. The status of Carew's, Cuellar's and Laursen's injuries will define our strategy methinks.
tarzan
Stig - Jarmon you mother hubbard
tarzan
Que?
Stig
lets get downing in for god sake! with routledge gone we have no cover on the wings at all! he wants 2 leave right?! GET HIM SIR MARTIN PLEASE!!
aaron_villa87
could there be truth in the mcgeady reports tho? I would rather have downing, but he wont warm the bench for us, plus i wouldnt want ash or milner to warm the bench for downings sake. could harewood be going today, with heskey coming in? also sky are going on about us and crouch again!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Stig
MON has denied yet another player coming to us, leaving us with more denials than captures. You are right there deano, the Arsenal would get it. We have got to aim for 3rd place which also means the players can have a proper break in the summer by not having to play the potentialy tricky qualifier which saw Rangers go this year.
Villan444
ForeverUnited do you guys have short memories or what? Ronaldo (the so called best player on earth) was marked out of the Villa Park game by none other than Nigel Reo-Coker at the position of Right back.
KSarge1
I might be a bit controversial here, but I really quite like NRC. He's got bite. He knuckles down, and he's not frightened of anyone. He lambasts himself on the pitch when it doesn't go to plan, and chivees (spelling?) the other lads up. I like him.
evoflash
I'm glad Upson isn't coming as it was sending alarm bells around the Laursen and Cuellar injuries - so that's good news. The Upson thing sounds like media histeria to get City to pay over the odds, if you ask me, he'd be ideal for the situation those guys are in. The Heskey link hasn't been denied, I just think it will happen at the last minute unless he hands in a written transfer request. Also we can give them a take it or leave it offer - if we've got a plan B.
tarzan
Evo you are dead right - he appears to be a great lad to have in the dressing room. What about this Roque Santa Cruz 18m get out clause?
tarzan
Deano - I think Liverpool won the CL and then finished 5th behind Everton. Both clubs were allowed in but Liverpool had to qualify starting at the 1st round. Heskey + winger + RB cover. Bouma will be back soon and Shorey will be his cover. UTV
Mutley73
True evoflash. The fourth round draw at the weekend had MON and Nige side by side waiting to see who we got and they looked thick as theives. Nige seems to carry out MONs requests whatever they are (MON's Bitch) and he seems to get a job done wherever he plays and although not the most technically gifted he works as hard as anyone else.
Villan444
The FA changed the rules after the Liverpool saga Mutley73 because only 4 from any 1 country are allowed, they made an exception that year.
Villan444
We must be looking at players without European football too. That means going Scotch!
tarzan
Kenny Misser is available on the cheap ;-0
tarzan
evoflash is right Nige is a very good player to have at villa. Hard working, takes no rubbish from any one and can play in several positions if needed to do so. ALSO How about if we went for Johnson or Miguel. Both good solid right backs, linked with villa in the past and at clubs that need to sell to balance the books.
Tallaght Villan
A few days into the window now, and all remains relatively calm on the forum. Clearly the valium is working. Even the most noisiest of members, who are usually climbing the walls when a lack of signings remains the order of the day, are reasonably mellow. Wonder how long it can last?
glensider
No to Darren Bent, no to Emile Heskey. Still gives us plenty of options to secure the one, hopefully two, quality strikers that we so desperately need to keep this ship on course. Oh, and no to Crouch too!
glensider
What 2 forwards would u want glensider? I belive Heskey would be a decent sqaud member, him together with a top finisher i would be very happy indeed, also think another fullback and wide player would be nice.
astonsteve
I gave a list of 3 a few posts ago asking for Nedum Onouha, Michael Johnson and Lukas Podolski. Can I just add someone else to that list - Joe Cole. May be very ambitious (as is Podolski) but Scolari needs money and if we quickly and quietly put a 15m take it or leave it offer make a move. I just think that the 4-5-1 with Milner, Young and Cole supporting a frontman with Barry and Petrov holding the fort we would be some team!!!
deano.avfc
Aston Villa Scout Malaga Defender Jesus Gamez! - http://www.goal.com/en/news/737/aston-villa/2009/01/06/1045210/aston-villa-scout-malaga-defender-jesus-gamez - also how amusing are the clowns who say MON is crap at transfers?? Ashley Young!!!!
NorthcliffeBandit
Valencia and Zaki please. Podolski won't come but he is VERY good. Also, Crouch. Ta ;-)
koolbill
I'd take Onouha and Johnson for sure deano.avfc, I've had Johnson in my shopping basket for a while I think he's proper quality. Onouha also looks a very clever defender and as you say, a center back and a right back in 1 is Marts dream. I actually think we'd have a good chance of getting Johnson, hopefully MONs watching his status. Who wouldn't want Joe Cole? But Joe Cole in a Villa shirt will almost definitly never happen outside of our dreams.
PTP
Robert Acquafresca and Mario Balotelli, young promising centre-forwards, 21 and 18 respectively. Both owned by Inter (though Aquafresca is on loan at Cagliari) but both possibly leaving.
NorthcliffeBandit
1st signing Arsenio Halfhuid!
NY Villa
Yep that's confirmed! Halfhiud is our first window signing. He was on Feyenoords youth books and then went to Dutch club Excelsior. 17 yr old promising defender has signed a two and half yr deal with Villa. SSN say he is the cousin of former Chelsea and Spton defender Ken Monkou so not a bad pedigree there. Not the fireworks we was expecting but one for the future it looks like. Another report has suggested Aiden McGeady is in talks with the Villa! Source is unconfirmed but said he saw Aiden at Glasgow airport heading for B'ham. If true then obviously it must be to the Villa! Deano I like your shout for Podolski as he is class and also Johnson and Onouha fit the MON mould of English U21's starlets. UTV.
holte ender 1969
I don't agree that we need a young goal machine , we just need a goal machine
Villan57
Onouha and johnson would be excellent but prob not available for europe, heskey, doyle and k jones would be able to play, need to consider this when buying.
johnmurphy3112
we should have got Arsenio Full-huid! Ah-ha-ha-ha (sorry)
NorthcliffeBandit
Northcliffe have I missed something .....

Today's big link: Roberto Canella from Spainish side Sporting Gijon. A quick 20 year old left back apparently... the price? a cool 10 mil...
olafthegreat
Do we really need a 10m left back? I would have thought the weak pound would make Euro transfers a little bit less interesting.
evoflash
I think Johnson's been injured for their Euro games, as far as I know he's available to play. Also, can't they play in Feb even if the other clubs out?
PTP
Not much about today, only the Canella in and Harewood out rumours. Think a quality left back wouldn't be a bad idea, we need strength in depth and looks like Shorey hasn't done what MON wanted so far as he hardly ever plays him.
The Fear
We must keep Shorey. He will come good.
koolbill
I liked Shorey at reading but he has been a bit dodgy for us.
chris the villan
He'll be 28 next month gents and if he can't do it now then you have got to wonder. Good with the ball but not quick, big or strong enough to be a defender.
Villan444
Freddy will be back soon so it not a problem position. i recon Mon might go for heskey.
chris the villan
Defo villan444. Shorey lacks the ability and strength to play for a top 5 team. Im sure if we let spuds have him we wont regret it. Not sure 10m on a left back is the best idea though. I like the sound of that jovanovic bloke. Give our front line a bit of european flair like Torres, van persie, berbatov, drogba (i know we've got carew)
medzy
He'll come good guys, please keep the faith....just look at Petrov. Anyway, Doyle, Valencia and Zaki anyone?
koolbill
Zaki in his intial first season has done well just like Santa Cruz did last season. Can Zaki do it at another club and consistently is yet to be seen. I'm not sure MON will gamble on that type of player. Doyle is proven though and is MON type but at no more than 8-9mil or he will be paying over the odds. Mmm, he has done that before (A Young) so why not! Are we being linked to any loan deals Fear? Usually we have a couple come in on loan in January.
holte ender 1969
Doyles a good shout. He fits the bill where MONs concerned but im craving a big(ish) european name. Somebody prolific at european level rather than championship level. Podolski will do nicely at 10m. Not feeling Heskey. He's just a stop gap if you ask me. Zaki would be a good signing at the right price but we need somebody this month and i cant see him leaving in jan unless its for Real Madrid (RUMOUR). Come on MON, put us out of our misery FFS.
medzy
Would love to see us get Podolski but we dont seem to go for the obvious do we. Looks like Owen is staying at Newc so that's a no go! I know we dont all rate him but form is temporary and class isn't. Seeing as not much happens in the jan window i can only see us snapping up an in form chmship player or over pay for one of MON's surprise targets. Not all clubs want to sell during mid season unfortunately.
holte ender 1969
We need top quality to improve us now not run of the mill. Heskey,Doyles of this world would be pointless and a waste of money, come on Villa don`t mess another window up.
ASPINALL
I don't think we can say "don't mess another window up" anymore. After the first couple, ye, they were fairly poor. MON has built us a stable squad now that looks like it can be greatly improved with only a couple of additions. We've got a Right Back, we've got a right midfielder. I've been one of the worst in the past for criticising MON and his transfer dealing, last window I even went as far as agreeing with RS about giving MON the sack. Now I see it like those wise villans have done for a while, MON knows what he's doing and thats the end of it. We don't need Podolski, we don't need Santa Cruz, we need whoever MON gets. Even the players he's bought that are now no longer with us or are curently being put under scrutiny by many of us, have done a job for us in getting us where we are now. I LOVE MON!
PTP
ps. And you should too!
PTP
But surely we need to strengthen the squad aspinall? Such players might not be first team but strong reserves are needed if we are to run in FA or UEFA/Champions League Cups. I don't necessarily advocate the purchase of those players (8 mill for Doyle is madness) but more players are required.
NorthcliffeBandit
I like the Valencia idea from koolbill. A good player and still quite young, can be a long term part of a successful team. I know why many of you are saying we should buy Podolski, but he is expensive and it would take him a little while to settle in england so would not be much help this season. Doyle would not be sold as he only just signed a new contract. I say if we are buying from germany we should go for Der Hammer, it would be great to have him back at villa. So i say sign: Der Hammer, Heskey, Miguel/ Johnson and Valencia
Tallaght Villan
Eircol - any news today?
tarzan
why are people so negative about Doyle? he's mobile, good in the air works hard and is currently top scorer in the champ. He looked okay in a poor reading side when he played in the prem before and with our supply I reckon he'd score shed loads.
AVbornandbred
couldn't agree more about NRC tho, love him. Would like to see him in centre mid but he's proving a decent RB
AVbornandbred
Agreed about Nige also, reminds me of Makelele. Distribution and composure could do with improving, but the way he kept Ronaldo in his pocket against manure warmed my heart
NorthcliffeBandit
Cheers Tallaght: Valencia just loves to score and shoot and is a perfect speedy, strong and intelligent player....he would definitely be a step up in class. Not sure about Doyle but it loks like if you were going to buy any player from the Champ then it would be him. Would he be as good as he was in his first PL season.....? We must get Valencia.
koolbill
I don't buy into this mad scramble January business. MON will have his ideas on the which players he wants. If the selling club is willing to do business then fine ..if not move on to the next one. Would rather have no one than just anyone for the sake of it.
Steve64k
Cheers Steve, we all know the ethos, but who would you like?
koolbill
jermain defoe linked - oneil rejected it matthew upson linked - oneil rejected it roberto cannelo linked - oneil rejected it all other managers are coming out saying they want 3 or 4 new players then oneil who hasnt got a clue comes out and says he hasnt even made any bids we all will be posting on here with rumours but on janury 30 well all be saying another jan another disappointing window He may bif for a joker late on in the window like heskey who will just sit on the bench when defoe who he dismissed will be top scorer in the prem
Carlos cuellar 1
All well and good Steve64k, but we have NO strength in depth and our fair share of injuries of late. MON recognises this and i'm sure he will make another 1-2 additions to bolster the squad. We can all squabble on our personel faves but of course it is his choice that matters at the end of the day. However, without our suggestions and comments on this matter, don't you think that it would make for a boring forum? We and Fear would not like that now would we. Heskey for his experience and cover. Man Citeh want Cruz but got knocked back with 20mil, so he is way too much. Any more ideas then Steve64k? You have the podium!
holte ender 1969
For now i am happy with our strongest starting 11. With Bouma, Laursen and Carew to come back in and the rest of the first team injury free (fingers crossed) we don't really need to add to the team. But if you then look at our subs bench for options we are struggling somewhat to change games. this is where we need to add and hence why we are linked to names like Heskey and Doyle etc. Am i wrong in thinking this?
holte ender 1969
How can people still moan about MON. Once again another transfer window and all the negativity rears its ugly head again. We are fourth in the league. I would like to see us sign two strikers but if we don't I trust MON and believe we will still quailfy for the Champions League. Arsenal may sign Arshavin and IMO they are welcome to him. He had two good games for Russia and was then found out against Spain. I have watched him in the Champs League for Zenit twice this season and he is an average player who the game bypasses. Just had to get that off my chest because the negativity of some Villa fans p**s*s me right off. Get a grip, enjoy the season and hang onton those coat-tails because it's going to be an exciting journey.
notthedougellisstand
Well said notthedougellisstand! we're the most improved team in the PL since MoN took over and some people moan still!!!! It's so easy being a manager isn't it....after all Defoe really wanted the Villa didn't her - NO!!!! He wanted Harry and London and that's all there is to it! Valencia and Henrik please.
koolbill
I think we will get Heskey on Jan 15th, when there new striker comes in, Rolledgea or whatever. Also, N'Zogbia.
los_angeles_villan
MON hasn't denied either of those yet so they must be true! Althought I would really like Kenwyne Jones. Think he's going to be class.
los_angeles_villan
ntdes? WTF with the morale high ground! Please be curteous and allow folk to express their own opinions. Seeing as none of us have a clue as we are mear supporters after all, does it really matter to you if it doesn't agree with you. For the record I would like Rooney and Ronaldo with Messi playing a creative role :p.
holte ender 1969
N'Zogbia is young but I really don't rate him...maybe MoN will mould him like others he has improved but I'm not confident with him now that he's shot his mouth off....expect this one to fall through as MoN hates blabber mouths. No thanks to Heskey but he is better that Harewood...VALENCIA please. Don't care about anyon eelse. Not Nugent. Not Bellend.
koolbill
Holte ender 1969, I'm not taking the moral high ground. I'm stating fact and from reading my message once again you will see I was not abusive to any fellow supporter, I just questioned why are some moaning again. Therefore I would check the definition of courteous. It is the January 9th and people are already saying we haven't signed anyone and questionning MON. The Transfer window is open until 2nd Feb this year, what is all the panic about ? Finally if other supporters opinions shouldn't matter to me then mine shouldn't matter to you.
notthedougellisstand
PTP - Yep,we have got a RB ( he plays at left back ) and we have got a RM ( but he`s pants ) and we spent a fortune on both, i love MON but he hasn`t got a clue about buying players and it hasn`t just been at the Villa, and in the last Jan window when we needed to kick on he bought Routledge.
ASPINALL
I am very impressed with Luke Young, he looks good defending and going forward and the fact that he can play left back also is doubly good. People can't forget that Milner was our player of the season last time that he was here. He is starting to show his qualities and has just scored a couple. By next year he will be almost as good as Ashley and is on Capello's radar. Agree Aspinall that last year's Routledge waste of time cost us 5th possibly 4th place when he should have got a couple of stars in. I am with ntdes in thinking that we couldn't have a better man for the job and to hear fellow supporters moaning about MON when we are in 4th place and should be even higher after the weekend is astonishing. Look at Man Citeh, Pompey and Spuz. Everton are only 6 pointsv behind us but have Hull and 3 of the supposed top 4 in their next 4 games.
Villan444
ASPINALL that is absolute rubbish and barely worth acknowledging. He has made some duff signings but to be fair they have not been for an awful lot of money (Salifou, Routledge) - when he has spent big they have tended to be worth it. Also consider that only now can we even dream of an Owen or a Podolski. When Harewood, Reo-Coker, Young, Petrov etc. were signed they would have been the best we could get at the time.
deano.avfc
Big talk about Shorey on his way out - wonder if O'Neill will be on the website denying this!! In my opinion this would be a mistake but maybe he is woeful in training or there is a personality clash - we may never know. But surely lots of teams will want him (some with little money) so surely he can be used as a part exchange!!
deano.avfc
Fair play Villan444, shame we didn`t buy Luke for a third of that cost when we really needed him a year or so ago.
ASPINALL
Aspinall, Luke Young is a great LB and Reo Coker, does it matter where he has played before? No because he's doing a fine job at RB. And as for Milner being pants, I've got doubts as to whether you're even watching him. He can cross, tackle and we've noone that puts more into the team than him. He bought Routledge for 1.5m or something, for back up, he didn't impress so move o. We came 6th, got Intertoto and qualified. What are you actually dissapointed about? We're fourth in the league when pretty much all with their heads screwed on would have been happy with consolidating UEFA. We've made incredible progression and are genuinely challenging the big boys while all the other hopefulls are so far failing. How many of our players that are first team players now were first team players before MON came? Where were we then? Where were we now? I've criticised MON's dealings before because he does things slowly and I'm impatient. But now I believe MON has it all, he's a brilliant manager in the window and on the pitch. He rushes nothing and we're benefiting from that. I LOVE HIM
PTP
I see the Blouse have signed Lee Bowyer, fit right in there with all their thugs.
notthedougellisstand
I have to be honest. I think Shorey doesn't look good enough. He looks really small whenever he has played and although Alan Wright was tiny he did get stuck in and I don't see that with Shorey. He passes the ball quite well and looks comfortable on the ball but I think Luke Young looks much better at LB because first and foremost it is about the ability to defend. I think MON has acknowledged this when he has played Reo-Coker or Cuellar at RB with Young at LB rather than play Shorey. Hopefully Freddie Bouma is back sooner rather the later and therefore Shorey can move on because it will better for all concerned. I have heard that we may be trying to do a p/x deal with Spurs, with Shorey going there and Bale coming to Villa. This could be pure speculation but wouldn't be a bad move for all parties methinks.
notthedougellisstand
I think that a N'Zogbia and Shorey swap is on the cards. N'Zogbia wants to go - Arsenal and Spurs also linked but must have other priorities. Newcastle need a LB and have been linked with Riise and Warnock but neither deal looks likely and they do not have that much money. Maybe thats a goer!! If MONs problem with Shorey is that he cant defend Bale is not going to be an option!!! If I was guessing I would say that Shorey and Harewood will leave us this month and we will replace them with N'Zogbia and a striker (I reckon it will be difficult to get our first choice or second but I am of the opinion that a player better than Harewood is okay for now - Doyle, Hesky or whoever) and a third player for a bit of depth - Johnson or Onouha??
deano.avfc
PTP,i`m disappointed with the 3 years of MON`s transfer dealings and nothing else ( well i do think we play pretty crud football at times ) Yes,we are fourth and so were Hull a couple of weeks ago, i`m glad you love him as i do too, i also love my Mom and she can be a pain in the arse.
ASPINALL
I think some fans forget what a state we was in just a few seasons ago , we may be a bit lucky to be in forth but when you have player such as young, gabby ,carew ,laursen, barry, you have a chance against any team. ps fans of other teams respect us a lot more now, oh and owen please.
chris the villan
But what I'm saying is that his transfer dealings have got us to where we are, our team sheet has changed dramatically since MON took over and the players he's bought take the credit for our league position and our UEFA appearances. He may not be buying young brazilian strikers for the future that some people think we need but he's buying top quality hardworking players and getting them to play. The first couple of windows were fairly quiet and during that time we all had a moan. We've now sorted out our problems and only need a couple of aditions to put us on the same level as Arsenal. Despite all this people are still moaning and even calling for us to sell players. We don't have enough players, we all moan about it. We finally get enough and people start calling for us to sell people off.
PTP
Aspinall, how can you be disappointed with MON's transfer dealings ? When it is these dealings that have brought the vast majority of players who have got us where we are. Give the guy a break and remember how far we have come under MON.
notthedougellisstand
Because i wanted Baines not Shorey, Defoe from day i was born, Diarra not NRC and i`ve wanted a RB to play there for a year and a half, we are currently fourth and if we stay there then i stand corrected.
ASPINALL
a top class forward from europe would be nice we must be an attractive prposition now were in the top four. A player who has a huge impact like zola did at chelsea klinsmann at spurs or bergcamp @ the gooners !
scoops
Aspinall, I would agree on Defoe but clearly MON doesn't want him otherwise we would have been in for him. Diarra would have broken the wage structure and consequently the harmony of the dressing room and Baines has struggled at Everton and is usually benchwarming because Lescott (CB) is playing LB. If you want all those players why don't you go on Football Manager and sign them for Villa and take us to the title.
notthedougellisstand
AHAHAHAHA @ RAFA. Bye bye top of the league.
evoflash
Nah, it`s a crap game and i`m too old now. I`ll get back to the thread - Stephen Hunt, Podolski and Bale.
ASPINALL
Bale cant defend, ask any Spurs fan. Stephen Hunt is no better than Kevin Doyle. Podolski I have been bleating since the Euro Cup.
deano.avfc
Podolski is off to Cologne..
los_angeles_villan
Why would reading sale us doyle for 10ml when they achance of getting into the prem and collecting 35ml no its going to be heskey or nobody.i hope to get nobody inplace of heskey
one match ban
The more I think about the players I'd like to see signed up the more frustrated I get. MON knows best and I'll be content to wait and see is all I'm saying. However, I'd would like to seeus take a punt on Podolski. There I'm now just another frustrated January shopper!
Steve64k
Amazing mix of views, On the whole MON has got it right but he's human and makes mistakes, normally when he tries to be too clever like playing musical chairs with the team and formation to make one change. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but aside from salif-who his signings have been worth the gamble. Routledge I questioned at the time but impressed me more every time I saw him, brilliant first touch great feet but couldn't cross the road, pity really. Can't see why people are so keen to go for a big name has been or foreign crapshoot and are so down on Doyle, under MON he could be a future star.
AVbornandbred
Doyle didn't happen last summer (was MON really interested anyway) So why do people still go on about Doyle when he has signed a contract and is chasing promotion with Reading? Apart from Owen who else (Defoe doesn't count anymore) is an English prolific goalscorer that is readily available? It may be that we won't sign a striker or if we do, we may have to take chance on a 'foreign crapshoot'. I'd like to see Martins or Podolski because we need another dimension to our play.
Steve64k
Totally agree on Martins Steve64k. I think he would be a great signing and could partner either Gabby or Carew because he has both power and pace. I will just sit here and wait and see. I think Heskey is the most likely signing though.
notthedougellisstand
Heskeys a has been for me. Newcastle would never sell their best player (martins) to us after milner. Shorey needs to move on. I get nervous when he plays. Quite prone to mistakes.
medzy
Doyle if available but otherwise 'crapshoot' Podolski
medzy
Cologne can't afford the 10mil for Podolski, and if Doyle would cost that then i'd much prefer the german!
NorthcliffeBandit
Heskie holding the ball up with Gabby and Ash feeding off him? I like it.
evoflash
Heskey will sign on monday - tuesday when wigan get the work permit for Hugo Rodallega any bets?
B6_COMPANY
Just on SSN that Heskey is off to liverpoo in the summer after intrest from VILLA has cooled .....!!!!!
B6_COMPANY
Podolski for 10m would be an absolute steal in the current transfer market and surely even if he flopped his German National Team apperances would ensure we could sell him on for more than that!! He could be a tremendous signing but unfortunatley I do not think he is on O'Neills radar!! Which is a shame - surely he seen enough when working for the BBC this summer!!
deano.avfc
Bent could be available, maybe swap shorey for Bale?
Pking
Rather have shorey than bale and thats saying something! Bent would be a good squad player but we need someone better than gabby and big john so they can fight for a place. kenwyne jones becoming more and more of a good shout. Another goal today
medzy
Sturrige out of contract at Man City in summer, worth a pop.
NorthcliffeBandit
I like sturrige but id like to see him play more and bang a few in. Great potential no doubt. Id give 5m for him
medzy
We must have some additions during this window as yet again we were unable to bring quality into the game from the bench. It is worrying as we enter the second part of the season. Will our star players suffer burnout? Injuries? Loss of form? A loaned LB to put Luke Young back over to his natural RB position. Then we can play Hokey in his holding MF position and cover for Sidwell or Milner. Another CF in the mould of Carew and to feed Gabby. Two definate signings there then. A full back and forward. In MON we trust and I'll look forward to some activity.
holte ender 1969
medzy, decent shout for Sturridge there. Potential and seemingly unwanted by Man Citeh. Who would be everyones choice for a quality, available full back?
holte ender 1969
Today's links: Click Here Doyle has 17 goals in the Championship which is, these days, a competitive league. Might be worth a punt?
The Fear
I would have said upson for no more than about 6m but the money the hammers want is laughable. Theres been rumours of Danny fox but have'nt seen much of him. Bridge would have been ideal but he's too greedy and no way worth double figures. Im growing more and more fond of doyle. Another goal and an obvious fox in the box. Worth 8m with Mons man management
medzy
V.A.L.E.N.C.I.A!!!!!! Winger come forward, twice the player for half the money! Plus let's have a 3m punt on McCarthy.
koolbill
No point in Upson, we've got Laursen, Davies, Cuellar, Knight and Bouma if necessary - Upsons no better than the firct three on that list at CB, and Cuellar and Bouma provide fullback options.
NorthcliffeBandit
True NB but there isnt much to choose from. I would only want upson as squad player. He better than knight in my opinion too and we can use cuellar as a RB. McCarthy not a long term solution which is what we need really. Valencia is quality but Wigan wont sell for S#!t
medzy
apparently heskey has signed a pre contract agreement with liver**** so that ends that. dont know whether to be happy that we may be getting someone better or that the only possible january signing we might have gotten isnt happening any more. God i hope we sign some players this is gunna bite us in the arse if sumthin like what happened to tottenham a couple of seasons ago happens, we wont have any quality players when our first teamers arent available
AussieVilla
Peter Lovenkrands on a free maybe?
evoflash
Screw crap like Hesky and owen. We need to go for Benjani or kenwyne jones. They worth more of a punt than Doyle because they proven a the top level. We've been linked with a12m move for Jones. I hope it Happens.
medzy
I agree Kenwyne Jones, young, big, strong and can score goals. Plus swap shorey for N'Zogbia, as he can play lb or lm. I think that would do it. UTV
Mutley73
Can't understand this "Screw crap like Hesky and owen. We need to go for Benjani or kenwyne jones." just doesn't make sense.
PTP
Because Hesky is 31 and not a goal scorer and newcastle wont sell Owen, Their only goal-scorer, not to mention the fact he said he was stayin until the summer at least. Stop dreaming and lets think about realistic targets that score goals FFS. Jones is young and big unlike owen and Benjani can score goals unlike Heskey. Same for doyle but he isnt really proven at prem level yet. Whoever we get wont be our first choice and you can be sure we'll have to pay over the odds. Makes perfect sense to me.
medzy
Aint been on here for a while so Hi All. Its Kenwynne Jones for me plus a midfielder with that bit of something special to open up the ten men behind the ball we see more amd more at VP. How about Joe Cole? I think we have to get used to the fact that now we're quite rightly back as one of the "Big 4", you sometimes have to wait for quality. You don't see lots of activity in Jan from Liverpoor, Man Ure or Chelski.
PENFOLD17
Penfold17, that's because the said teams already have decent squads and we are looking as we don't have a big enough squad. We may be a top 4 team now but can we sustain that with our small squad. I know we have backup in the likes of Shorey, Harewood etc etc but that hardly fill me with confidence when we look at our bench. I think MON sees the same. P.O.D.O.L.S.K.I has to be on someones radar, so why not? Quality and at 9-10mil worth a shot. We have a growing band of support for the player on this forum and he stands way above any other shouts out there. Forget Heskey, Owen, Jones and Benjani. These are not what we need. Would love to see us in for J Cole, but he wont leave Chelsea for us or for another team outside of London town. All so quiet out there which leads me to believe MON & Randy are busy dealing, but for who??? UTV.
holte ender 1969
NO PODOLSKI, he wants to go back to Koln. I fear buying fancy dans like Podolski, I dont think MON likes those players and I can see why, they are the transfers most likley to be duff signings. As they often cant handle the diffrence in pace and strength of the premier league. I say stick with MON type signings, I know they are not always big and exciting but they work.IN MON I TRUST!
Tallaght Villan
ahh, just wish we would sign somebody now. i hate the waiting!!!
industrial_musical
nzogbia has just handed in a transfer request.
Stig
Reading through these posts shows a serious lack of common sense from a lot of contributors, some of the suggestions are laughable, and those are mostly the serious ones. Owen, yes he can score goals, but only when he's fit, which isn't very often. He's only putting the effort in now so he can get out of the hell hole that is currently Newcastle United. Kenwyne Jones is not playing too badly at the moment, but thats at the moment. His scoring record is hardly convincing and at about 12m quid, thats just mental! Heskey, I don't think a few half decent England performances and looking ok at Wigan would convince O'Neil regardless of their previous history. Face facts, he scores f@ck all goals, and thats what we need, a goal scorer as an option, not a battering ram, to me it smacks of desperation. Podolski, yes I agree that he is a quality player, whom might be tempted to come the Premier league to join Villa given our current position. But it doesn't seem like MON's style to me. Of the foreign players touted, Santa Cruz seems like the best option, especially considering his experience already in the league, and he's a proven goal scorer. The only problem is his cost, 20m is just too much cashola. My personal feeling is that Daniel Sturridge is the man for us, young, very talented, pacy, English, seems like just the kind of player MON would love to bring to the fold. He's bound to fall foul of Man Cities ridiculous transfer policy sooner or later. And whilst we're at it we should bag Michael Johnson too, I started to take note of him at the start of last season and after he scored that goal against us at Eastlands last season added him to my Villa wish list. Go on Martin raid the Sky Blues, they really could be the solution to our problems.
Alan Stovil
We all have our own wish lists stovil, and your ain't bad either. I do like Sturridge as a future signing and at around 5mil could prove a bargain under MON. I understand Cruz and he would be top of my list if not for the price tag, which is why i went for Podolski. I hope we get someone in tho soon as the waiting is killing me. Has to be the right signings tho and not just a stop gap. Were supposed to be on the up so lets go get em Martin!
holte ender 1969
Tevez!
son_of_cher
I agree HE, there's no point wasting time and money on another Harewood. Unless the signings that we might make are an improvement they are just going to keep the bench warm unless we are stricken by injuries. I'd love to see Crouch come back to B6 but can't imagine Pompey letting another striker go at this time whatever the price. If they did they would almost certainly find themselves involved in a relagation battle, in fact they still might without Defoe's goals. I know its been mentioned time and time again, but maybe if he's physically up to it Henrik Larsson would be the stop-gap we need to take us through to the end of this season. This would leave us in a strong position in the summer if we (fingers crossed) qualify for the champions league to recruit a player for the long haul and prevent us from being ripped off in the January meat market. But as he says on his blog "In an ideal world if I do continue to play football it will be in Sweden". But then again, professional footballers often say one thing and do another entirely. Oh, and I know a lot of you wont appreciate this because the Scum were sniffing around him, but Kris Boyd is well worth a punt. The mans a natural goal scorer and has no problem dealing with high pressure games whatsoever. Small Heath had agreed a fee of 3.75m for him, but he wouldn't agree to go to them, maybe thats an omen? Thats around half a million less than what we payed for the hungry Hare, I think we should snap him up whilst we have the chance.
Alan Stovil
Agreed on sturridge but im not sure the lack of 1st team football will benefit us half way through the season which is why i feel Jones is quite a good shout. In good form but not worth the 12m. 7m seems about right but its only a mil more than the black cats paid so no point them selling. larssons a legend but im not sure he'll be able to adjust in time if we want 4th place. We need someone in full flow
medzy
Yo =] I would go for Jermiane Jenus, Craig Bellamy, D Cisse, K Jones, or Joe cole. That would be perfect right? + a left back. Who doe?
Blitz
We are that unprepared when it comes to transfers that we had to play Gabby whilst ill on Saturday and it nearly cost us, he was also missing the week before so we had to play the Fonz in the FA Cup, i honestly think we won`t buy anyone.
ASPINALL
Unrelated, I have it on good authority Carew refused a drug test by the club, and is currently back home in Norway. Thats all I have been told, dont shoot the messenger.
Stig
that is interesting Stig. i heard he's been talking to Everton, and since the strip-club incident he has been 'injured'.
leftfoot
Everton couldn't afford Carew even if that rumour was true!
MattUTV
Very worrying RE: Carew! Whether he plays again or not, we need another striker regardless, possibly 2. Medium quality and top attitude are the 2 main attributes but only McGrath knows who.
Villan444
They are clutching at straws now!!http://www.fansfc.com/story/4799.html
In MON we trust!
Drogba! He must be worth 3 times that! Be a great signing though!
leelindsay
Anyone happy with.... Friedel Young Davies Laursen Bouma Milner Barry Young Agbonlahor Drogba Keane
bentonm
Nice one In MON we trust, time flies, I didn't realise it was the 1st of April already.
Alan Stovil
COME ON LETS NOT EVEN TALK ABOUT THE DROGBA THING AS WE ALL KNOW ITS JUST SILLY!!! LETS TALK ABOUT REALISTIC TARGETS.
Tallaght Villan
Funny saying Carew is not "injured" and in Norway/Everton/on the Moon/In the bog or whereever, cos the express and star states that he is seeing a specialist again this week and that MON is rubbishing Carews rep saying he wont play again this season (or something to that effect: http://www.expressandstar.com/2009/01/14/villa-ace-is-hoping-for-boost/
nazvfc
I like the sound of Drogba....
industrial_musical
Kaka has alledgedly turned down a 100mil move to the mega citeh (ssn)! Let's go in with a cheeky 99mil :p Forget Drogba, never liked his attitude anyway. If this Carew story is true then we MUST get quality in or we are fu@#ed for fourth. It is a worrying time. I now officially hate this transfer window crap!
holte ender 1969
have faith guys, i know their are players we would all like and im sure MON is aware of what we need to improve (starting 11 or depth) but as we all know he keeps his cards close to his chest. i will be happy if he brings in the players he truly wants. for fun though i would like to see podolski, micheal johnson (man city) a versitile defender and one for the future maybe a 4 or 5 million bid for fabian delph of leeds.
1982benny
In all honesty no one is going to want to sell their better players mid-season,,,,,
tomog
Kenwyne Jones (and Sturridge if Harewood leaves) Swap shorey for Marek Cech or Nzogbia. Michael Johnson for midfield. I think all of these have the "hunger" that MON wants.
MOGVILLA
Carew speak to Everton? Surely not. At least i hope not. We'd Never sell to them. I'll be happy when he starts playing again. Dos Santos has got to be worth a punt. Too good to sit on spuds bench. Got my heart set on Jones now for some reason. Seems to be our only realistic target man. Johnson and sturridge great shouts
medzy
If MON has to pay over the odds then so be it. If it keeps our momentum going then it has to be worth it. Bring on thread part 2 fear!
holte ender 1969
MON did say if he has to spend over the odds for quality then he will.
industrial_musical
alot of speculation about Naughton again today!
Stig
It's half-time in the transfer window...with no sign of a goal whatsoever.
olofthegreat
More about Kenwyne Jones today as well as well as reports saying Heskey chase is off. Can't say I'm that disappointed at that.
The Fear
I have faith in MON. I am deciding that this transfer window I will be not taking too much notice. If it all goes wrong at the end of the season though...
industrial_musical
Not sure NZogbia has the right attitude and apparently MJohnson is a bit of a party animal, well known on manc party season, not been focusing on the footy and why he's not been in citeh line up for a while! KJones would defo be a good addition to squad, we don't want any big superstars to come in and upset the MON ethos. UTV
Mutley73
Does Villa acually need any more players in this window, doing very well in the league. Should the powers that be scrap this window and make all the clubs do the business in the summer, or will it make more clubs in the lower leagues go into admintration.
Buzz Lightyear
Well Jones isnt for sale "apparently" so thats us f!*cked for a half decent striker. Looks like it could be Doyle. Not Naughton for christ sake. Glad Heskeys stayin at Wigan. We dont need strikers that dont score, phew. Bullard???
medzy
Reckon we're going to have to wait until Citeh have done their business and hopefully some of the silly prices quoted will fall to a reasonable level. Could be the late late show from MON. Still think we should have a go at Crouch. Like the sound of Marc Janko, his stats are excellent and I reckon he could be the next Santa Cruz. Any thoughts?
26.05.82
i think we should sign darren bent from tottenham. he is is a gd player and scores goals.
mshaw18
Hokey cokey in swap for Bent according to certain red top newspaps! Decent link there so probably not true there then! Would be a shame to loose Nige anyways as he plays with such a big heart and never moans about playing out of position.
holte ender 1969
Darren Bent would be a good signing but not for the 14m thats being reported in some papers! I'd rather MON took a 5m gamble on an unproven premiership player.
son_of_cher
14mill for a player that can score goals in the premiership or 5mill for a player that might not be as good as harewood? I know which i would choose. Bent.
industrial_musical
Saviola being linked with loan move to the likes of Bolton - surely he would like to move to us!! I think Bent is a good shout based on the fact that he can play up front on his own and in the attacking 4-3-3 O'Neill likes he could definatly do a good job there. I also feel he would work with Carew and Gabby - or dare I say it - even both!!!
deano.avfc
Totally agree industrial_musical, if Bent provides the goals to help us hold our 4th spot, then the money will be very well spent.
splatt
Rather Bent than Jones but like Jones, like Crouch too. 10m should get Bent but would THFC sell to their biggest rival for next season? Also VALENCIA please!!!!! Rate him much more as a player we need than Bent. Would like ZAKI but it ain't gonna happen.
koolbill
Would also prefer Frank Ribery to Saviola.....Ribery is CLASS indeed. Guile and cunning, he would absolutely be magnificient in our team, he would be that player to unlock defences with one pass or a sublime run. I DARE anyone to disagree. Bring it on.
koolbill
Anyone else seen this http://www.avfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/PlayerProfiles/0,,10265~39837,00.html Leeds have said its an error in web admin but noticed ken bates has now said two offers from prem clubs have been rejected for Fabian Delph.... interesting
smirnoffshox
Koolbill are you serious.......Spuds are our biggest rivals for next season?! they'll be rivaling the bluenoses in the championship.
johnmurphy3112
I'm sure Spuds see themselves as our rivals for next season, so their pride may not allow them to sell to us.....
splatt
Wanted Bent last year, can play wide aswell if needed. I'd pay the money, his scoring record is extremely good considering the Spuds don't like to play him
PENFOLD17
johnmurphy3112: They see us as rivals, i don't see them as rivals but they certainly are ambitious and will expect to be rivaling us next season that's for sure.
koolbill
Should there be a ceiling on Transfer fees? I don't think the clubs would allow that. Players have a right to move clubs if they want and that was down to Bosman and player can and do move for free. Experts said it would be the end of transfer fees and it would cause havoc as no money would change hands between clubs. Now they say the Kaka deal is going to ruin football. I would love a ceiling so all clubs could compete for the best players, I would love for the wages to have a ceiling, but that is not going to happen.Who is to blame City for paying the fee or Milan asking for a fee that large.
Buzz Lightyear
16 days and still nowt, MON on fire as always !!!
ASPINALL
It could be MON is waiting for all thbis Kak stguff to die down, it may have inflated the market a little and he is waiting till it settles.
Buzz Lightyear
Anyone else have a morning routine, internet wise? VitalVilla, Skysports, BBC Football, Sporting Life, the Official Site, NewsNow etc, hit the Ctrl+F keys and type in Villa - what do you get?.........Zilch! It's like Chinese torture, innit? As for the Kaka thang - Zzzzzzzzz!
claretandbluestu
Must admit I'd hoped to be writing a 'we've got him' article or two by now claretandbluestu. When will we ever learn!
The Fear
I know Mr Fear, thanks for the support. I'm not sure what is actually more infuriating - MON's patience or my impatience?
claretandbluestu
claretandbluestu - my name is azton villa, I am also an addicted to the same ritual. Do you think we should start a "Aston Villa Transfer Anonymous (AVTA)" group!?! It might relieve the pain somewhat!
azton villain
If he wasn't pulling off the results I think the impatience or even anger would be overspilling as these transfer windows are always agony (!) but with us being 4th, I guess he can point out he knows what he is doing. Still, I share the impatience, would be so nice to be able to go bish bash bosh sorted... If only life was that simple as a Villa fan (or maybe manager as well!)
The Fear
like i posted before evry1 says we trust mon but we will all be on here jan 31 talking about how all prem teaams have done good buisness and we have nobody if we dont sign anybody and man city , spurs , pompey , etc keep doing buisness we may as well settle for a top half finish . Gabby agbonhlahor has done ok this season considering he is on his own but if we dont get a striker we will be losing evry week. When we are linked with somebody i think atleast mon is trying then 2 hours later he is denying it on the club website . mon always says well try but we might not get anybody all the time very frustrating . No action till 31st when we will prob make a bid for a joker like heskey ( too old ) or doyle (championship quality at top)
Carlos cuellar 1
I think we have to get a winger now.
Pking
nows the time to do it. 6 points clear in 4th place 3 points off top, the better quality players that are available have got to look at villa as a good option now.
johnmurphy3112
VALENCIA must be bought now. Young sent off. Come to us Valencia.
koolbill
yes 3 points off the top...reading some of the posts you would think we were 3 points off the bottom.i think we can safely assume now that mr oneil knows what he is doing,i too would like to have 5 new signings but we have the best TEAM in the league so maybe we dont bring in some big time charlie causing ill feeling and knocking the confidence of our team?mon will bring in players with the right attitude and ability dont worry about that.
avflell
the gooners won. good job we did too!
johnmurphy3112
Well said avflell. 2.5 years in and we are 4th. Not sure what some of the posters on here expect but we should have a lot more faith in the master.
Villan444
seeing as half-time has been and gone - isn't it about time Fear blew the God Damn whistle and start part two?? I'm getting rsi scrolling so far down
