Martin Jol Tips Villa To Beat Arsenal To 4th

Former Spurs manager and Dutchmeister Martin Jol has tipped Villa to push Arsenal out of the top four.

The Hamburg manager, who will pitch his team v Villa tonight in the UEFA Cup said:

'I would say Villa are in the top five clubs now - and they could be a top-four club. Arsenal are not so good now. They are no longer automatically a top-four side. Villa can definitely take their place and can reach the Champions League. They are one of the bigger clubs. In fact, when they won the European Cup I was there at the game in Rotterdam. I had to keep quiet as I was amongst the Villa fans.'

Adding that Spurs were also interested in signing Ashley Young from Watford but he proved too expensive at £9million. Phew!

'But he has gone up a level since then, Gabriel Agbonlahor is one of the quickest players in the Premier League while James Milner is also an excellent player. They have got the talent, as we had a couple of years ago at Spurs, and the future is for them.'

He also says that he wants to 'go all the way' with Hamburg despite him being tipped as in the running for the Sunderland job at 10/1. Oddschecker.com

Spurs fan here. Martin Jol always told it like it was at Spurs and I always appreciated his honesty, it's also why I like Harry and MON. I think what he says is right, Arsenal are no longer guaranteed that 4th spot, they have had blips. I'm not saying that as a Spurs fan but as an outsider (it is obvious that we will not be up there this season). What I also agree with is that Villa this season are very much like the Spurs team of 05-06, good English spine with a good couple of foreigners and one or 2 donkeys. We had Stalteri, you have Shorey! Now also gutted you guys got Young, good left wingers are rarer than rocking horse *****. Good luck in your quest for CL football this season.

Thanks Chris. Kind words. You should have never sacked Martin Jol in the first place though.

Well said Hart, Jol has a place in the hearts of most Spurs fans for that very reason, never spins it & never a bad word to say about anyone, well at least publicly & that is the way it should be. From another Spurs fan who couldn't agree any more with what Chris said, good luck Villa. P.S. O'Neil is another great manager, out of him, Harry or Jol if I had the picking it would be a close run thing. Though I think Jol would edge it if only for our song!

P.S.S. For those of you who don't know it.... Martin Jol, Martin Jol, Martin, Martin Jol, he's got no hair and we don't care Martin, Martin Jol!

P.S.S.S. That song could almost work for O'Neil! :P

Worrying to look at the way that Spuz lost their form and best players after their manager had left, The preceding years, they almost threatened to snatch the gunners 4th place from them. MON would never do that to us though. Lasagne

When we narrowly missed out on CL the big boys started to take notice and even if you manage to keep hold of the better players their heads may well get turned, IMO this will be your best chance to finish 4th (especially if you can keep Young and long name fit)because the goons won't be this poor next year. Best of luck

used to be the Stevie Stone song that, would work well for me as well, MON has a mop of hair though!
