'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Aston Villa's Wednesday Press Transfer Talk

According to the Independent, Martin O'Neill has registered an interest in France U21 and Newcastle midfielder Charles N'Zogbia. The report says his future at the club is in doubt despite signing a five-year contract last year. Not sure why his future is unsure, I'll ask the Vital Newcastle editor and get back to you!

The Sun say that Aston Villa, Spurs and Manchester City are going to enter a bidding war for West Ham's £10m-rated striker Dean Ashton. I honestly can't see this, he is a good striker no doubt at all and is the sort of big physical tough type of striker that MON appears to like, but he is so injury prone it would be a massive risk. He is still only 25 but he has suffered injury after injury, he is currently out with an ankle problem and won't be fit until next month. His goal record (from Wiki) is 2000-2005 with Crewe Alexandra, 159 games, 61 goals. Norwich 2005-2006 44 games, 17 goals. West Ham 2006 onwards, 46 games, 15 goals.

Meanwhile, talk about Michael Owen doesn't include Aston Villa but certainly is interesting...! Apparently Newcastle have offered him a 4 year deal (not the 3 year deal reported) at around £90 000 a week. But the Daily Mail claim he has told his team mates he is hoping for an offer from Liverpool, Manchester City or Everton. Meanwhile the Daily Star says Steve Bruce is looking to launch a bid for him in January and also wants midfielder Nicky Butt.

Do it Martin...do it!!!! Sign him AND Owen. They can take turns to be injured.

Dean Ashton and Owen would be better than Heskey and Doyle, however they would never play as many games. I still think Heskey will join us.
young_jonah
I'm expecting no one, that way I won't be dissappointed (unless Heskey signs)

It's true I have never seen Owen linked with Villa in the national press, don't they ever read this site! But the player is hoping for an offer from Everton among others? Crazy, Moyes has already stated he will have zero money to spend.

It's the press trying to make a story. Owen wouldn't move to Everton because they are not a 'top side', To be honest, I personally think Newcastle are a bigger club than Everton so it would be a sideways step for him. Basically, he has the choice of a top 4 club or us as the only team willing to try and break the monopoly. I do however like the links with Ashton and N'Zogbia ALOT.

I've been saying N'Zogbia for a year now. Only player that stood out for me at Newcastle last year.

Whoever he wants to go for he needs to decide now - I think Man City will make noises about MASSIVE signings on the scale of Messi and Kaka but end up by not getting them - this will mean Hughes will end up throwing the money about like crazy at the end of January for the likes of Ashton, Santa Cruz etc. etc. For that reason O'Neill must decide on what striker he prefers from the list we have kindly provided on our poll!!!! and then make a move early Jan to get him signed and sealed before Hughes goes in offers double the money and salary.
