Jeff Winter Rips Into Villa v Bolton Ref

Jeff Winter has spoken of the mistake made at the weekend in the Villa v Bolton game.

On his own site: www.jeffwinter.co.uk the former ref said:

Aston Villa beat Bolton Wanderers 4-2 but it should have been 5-2.

I can understand refs missing things if they are unsighted but hapless Lee Probert was ten yards away when Cahill handled the ball in the penalty area.

This ref is a product of the “If the face fits” school of promotion and countless other refs in the Football League are more deserving of a chance in the Premier League.

Verdict: 5-2 to Villa instead of 4-2

Ouch, 'if the face fits' not exactly holding back is he?! True though, just see how quickly Uriah Rennie was promoted and he was truly truly dire. Tough job but they must be able to get some decent refs surely!?

I have never seen anything like that decision. It is usually a cliche to say the ref was the only person in the ground not to have seen it, but in this case it's the truth.

God knows what he was doing! The lines man was jumping up and down waving his flag around for ages to attract his attention but still nothing! Surely the ear piece in his ear enables him to communicate with the lines man? Either that or the belief of the 8000 screaming Holteenders! Joke! He knew he'd made a huge mistake because soon after the offence took place he was blowing his whistle for everything in our favour! He also missed the trip on Young.

Am I the only one here picking up on the fact he has his own Website? Egotistical son of a b*tch

Jonah, I can't say I'm surprised - this is Jeff Winter after all, one of the most egotistical, narcisistic "look at me, look at me!" referees in Premier League history! That aside, I can honestly say that Mr Probert was by far and away the worst referee I've ever seen at Villa Park - he made Rennie look competent. How you can be facing the crowd of bodies and yet still fail to spot Gary Cahill's best Superman impression is beyond me. Between this and the high-profile errors of Stuart Attwell, it doesn't look good for the FA's "Respect the Ref" campaign and the future of football officiating...

It is the internet generation, why shouldn't he have a website, I've got one, in fact I've got a network!!!!!! :o))))

I've got a website - admittedly for my business but people on facebook could be classed as the same (I'm not on there - have you seen my face!).

I seen athe handball from 100m away yet the ref ( and linesman - he wasn`t flagging for a pen ) didn`t have the balls or eyes to give it ??
ASPINALL
I was right behind the linesman and he did not wave his flag, he did nothing to bring it to the refs attention. However this was the same linesman that got hit with the coin against pompy. He has always been a poor offical and I wouldnt give him the line to run on a sunday leauge game let alone the premiership.

His flag was up in the air rdubar, 100% certain of that, but not sure what he was saying with it up in the air, it wasn't being waved about which I think they usually do when they are saying pen.
