Chris Bascombe of the News of the World yesterday claimed that Villa are going to raid Portsmouth to bring Peter Crouch back to Villa Park in January.

He claims that despite interest in Emile Heskey Martin O'Neill is more likely to turn to Crouch as Pompey are cash strapped. However where the paper report falls down is in the statement claiming the England striker rejected a move to a host of clubs including Villa. He did not reject the move, we DID NOT bid. 100% on that. With the Barry saga at its height it would have been almost impossible for us to have bid for him anyway! If we had bid, I truly believe he would have chosen us as he enjoyed his first stint at Villa Park and knows the younger players at Villa are impressing and breaking into the England set up.

The Sunday Telegraph today says that new Real Madrid boss Jaunde Ramos is keeping an eye on Ashley Young. Ha, he can keep an eye on him if he wants, the player isn't for sale! Be interesting to see what price would be put on his head now, some raised an eyebrow when we paid over £9million from Watford, surely he has to be worth at least three times that now? But he can't be sold, you can't replace quality like that and it is players like him and Gabby who are surely the bedrock to our future?

I don't think MON or Randy would accept 40 mil for ashley young if Madrid came in with that amount. When you value what money we receive in prem finishes now as a result of sponsorship and the potential windfalls we could achieve from champions league, you've got to say players like ashley young are invaluable to villa. Quoting 30 mil would seem way off the mark, if understandable.
